John’s place is transparent, communicative, and always does great work! Knew this place was the one when I took my car in with a steering rack issue that was going to take over a grand to fix. John let me know it wasn’t an emergency and allowed me to feel comfortable taking the time to save up some cash for a repair. He even suggested some things I could do to hold my car over until til we replaced the rack. He will always call you with you car's diagnosis and what his plan and suggestions are before doing anything to your car and is happy to do a price breakdown for you. Highly recommend!

An honest mechanic. John has been working on my vehicles for just about a decade. Quality is the best, he absolutely won't do what you don't need and will do what he can with your budget.

Best shop in town. John took care of my civic all the way to the end of its life. When many shops in Golden were quick to quote me $1,800-2,400 for a repair, John solved my issue with a conversation and a $5 bottle of fluid. One of the many downsides of no longer living in CO is losing my barber and my mechanic.

I've been going to John's automotive for years now, ever since my grandfather introduced me to his services. John and his son are honest, hardworking people and I wouldn't take my family's vehicles anywhere else.

John is an honest guy and knows his stuff. I can only speak for domestic vehicles, but John's usually able to tell me what's wrong over the phone before even seeing the vehicle. I've had my vehicle there multiple times and it's always been returned in good working order at or under the promised cost and on time. I try to do a fair amount of work on my vehicle myself but usually take it to these guys for bigger things and definitely recommend them.

I was looking for a local place to get an estimate on some mechanical needs for my Subaru Forester. John's was the last of the four places I called for quotes and he was by far the best and also just seemed the most knowledgeable. Not only that, but what they discovered to be the problem, was not even what the dealership service department thought and quoted. They not only saved me nearly $2500, but they also actually fixed the issue.

I would not hesitate to take my vehicles there. They are super knowledgable, amazing service, committed and stand by their work, and really easy to work with and accommodating.

John is very transparent, and communicative. My husband and I blew a tire coming back from the mountains around 7pm. We got a tow to take us to the nearest mechanic, and luckily that was John's automotive. We were pleasantly surprised how welcoming they were, and how quickly they got to diagnosing our situation considering how we showed up. We have a 99 dodge ram van so parts are hard to find, but John went straight to work calling and got the part in in 3 weeks. After they got the part (steering knuckle and wheel bearing) it was fixed in two days. Even with John and his team dealing with getting sick and being extremely busy. Safe to say we were impressed. Its nice to actually trust a mechanic and not feel like we are being taken advantage of. John gave me frequent calls updating me while we waited for the part to come in. It was really liberating not having to call him myself just to figure out anything. I would highly recommend John and his team! Trust is HUGE and they proved they are worthy of that! Thank you guys again!!

Had an emergency driving home on I70 and dropped in unannounced. What great luck. Even though he was super busy, John took a moment to assess my situation and give me guidance on whether I should drive the car home or get a tow. Honest, kind, knowledgeable, and fair. Highly recommend.

John is the kindest, friendliest guy. He is honest and helpful and has always gotten me taken care of quickly. I've never trusted a mechanic so much.

2023 Update: Still the absolute best. John and his team are indispensable to my family. They keep us on the road in safe and reliable vehicles. We appreciate you guys!

I've been going to John's Automotive now called Forever Auto (same owner) for 23 years. He's honest and will tell you if it's worth repairing your vehicle or not (sometimes older cars aren't worth putting more money into). I've never felt weird about the final bill. Everything is above board and clear. I know a lot of people from my church that are lifetime customers like me. They go to him because he's a stand-up guy and all the people that work for him are honest too.

Great auto shop! I unexpectedly became stranded off of I-70 near Golden, CO, on a very late Sunday evening. Thanks to the excellent Google reviews, I had AAA tow my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee to John’s Automotive/Forever Auto. The next morning, the guys at the shop squeezed me in without an appointment to replace my idler pulley and get me back on the road home, which is several hours west through the Rocky Mountains. They even test drove my Jeep up the mountain to stress test the repair before calling it good. You’d be surprised how many auto shops won’t take the time to test drive their repairs before handing it over!

The price was fair, the work was great, and the guys are knowledgeable and friendly. Special shout out to Jayson and Joshua! Thanks, again!

John and crew helped me out in a pinch. My regular mechanic forgot I was coming in ….. anyway. John was able to replace my headlight. Super fast, affordable. I am most appreciative.

John and his crew are a great group of folks. John is professional, upfront, and knows his stuff better than any mechanic I have met. John is clear about what he is going to do to your vehicle and what he will charge for it. I will never take my trucks anywhere else but here. If you have him look over your vehicle he will give you a clear list of things he sees and the severity level of each item.

We have had several of John's cars down for an alignment after he completes repairs. You can tell he knows what he is doing and has a tremendous sense of quality control. There are always good parts used and never any surprises with the vehicles he brings us. Great job guys and keep up the good work! Keep local business alive!

Had a car towed here after breaking down on I70, John was extremely polite and easy to work with, he managed to get my car looked at even though he was backed up with work for weeks and was able to give me a diagnosis in just a few days. He was refreshingly honest in telling me the car wasn't worth the work needed and was even able to get me set up with a local scrap yard. Honest polite and helpful, I would recommend these guys to anyone.

My family and I have been coming to John exclusively for over 20 years. Not a single complaint to report in that time from any of us. This is honestly the only shop I know I can bring my car into and I won't be ripped off, they've always made sure to call and explain what needs to be done before starting the work so I've never gotten a bill with any surprise charges. Because these guys rock they are usually fairly busy, I'd highly recommend making an appointment in advance!

Cannot recommend John enough! Extremely good service for very fair prices. I have an old car that I'm just trying to keep going as long as possible. John does great repairs that just keep it going without breaking my wallet! There's a reason his shop is very busy - he's good!!!

John’s Auto Diagnostics went the extra mile for me and my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. They worked endlessly on a differential replacement until they perfected the repair. John gave me a ball park estimate, a long with some other issues that I was not aware of yet (lower ball joints). John gave me a price break based on the exposure to these parts during the other repairs. Johns shop went well beyond what I would expect a shop to do to make sure that their job was done correctly and completely. This was the first time that I used John’s shop; he was recommended to me word of mouth by a neighbor. Thank you John, and I will be back.

We have been taking our cars and trucks to John's since we have been in the Golden area... about 20 years! You won't find a better auto diagnostic and repair shop, a better owner, and better mechanics. He has kept our vehicles running, he has offered trustworthy advice and guidance, and he can be counted on to provide the best service you'll find anywhere. Besides, John is an all-around good guy.
