Tacos El Gordo Montrose

Taco shops are a ubiquitous part of our American restaurant scene, but few are authentic with full flavor, like you'd get walking the streets of a mid-sizedmexico town. The setting might make you think you were transported south of the boarder, as it's a somewhat humble environment. To me, this adds to the experience.

THESE are some of the best tacos I have had outside Mexico! Everything is made in house, including the chips.

Definitely try the fish or shrimp tacos! They may change your perception of reality. The asada stands on its own as well.

Best birria tacos I’ve had in Colorado. A must stop if you are passing thru Montrose. Kind people, great service, and a tiendita inside for some Mexican snacks.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Montrose! Don't waste your time going anywhere else. Tonight I had the quesa birria tacos and they were incredible! The owner is so friendly and you can tell he puts so much effort into creating the food. The tortas are also delish.

First time eating here and it’s absolutely amazing. I had the Queso Birria and shrimp taco. The food was delicious the service was excellent. I’ll be back anytime I’m in the area for sure.

This place was quite good. Like going to a Cafe in Mexico. The food was flavorful, spicy but not hot spicy unless you add the hot green salsa. Kind of off main street so drive to the rear if the parking lot behind McD. Parking lot is huge. Prices are lower than most.

I love the atmosphere in this building! As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the amazing smells of his food. I got the quesobirria and would highly recommend to anyone wanting some good tacos! It's a fair price and GREAT quality!

So delicious. The quesa birrias have a very authentic flavor specially combined with their salsas. And the chile relleno burrito is so mouthwatering, love the taste of their beans.
We also got some pozole to go because it smelled and tasted delicious we couldn't resist.
Staff is friendly and funny 🤭☺, definitely visiting again.

So tasty and HEALTHY!! Everything is cooked fresh with colorful ingredients! Owner so friendly and will lift you up if you are down. Awesome people. I had posole. Best I ever had. Wow!! Good prices too. Great atmosphere. Awesome music. Mexican products and candy available to buy as well.

Excellent food! Full of flavor and well portioned! The gentleman at the counter gave recommendations and was very helpful. His recommendation was so good, not sorry, I took the advice! Hands down, one of the best places I have gotten tacos!

I got the food to go so I only had a small sample of the service and atmosphere but the tacos were great.

Food=great, Owner=very nice and genuinely wants you to enjoy his food, Atmosphere=small, limited seating, could be cozier, but very very clean. I suggest eating ALL the things, but order to go.

This place was awesome! Super friendly service, the gentleman working let us try multiple hot sauces. The chile rellano burrito was amazing. Also really enjoyed the birrira tacos. They also have a little shop with snacks and homemade flan. Would definitely come back here next time I’m in the area!

Great food, I got the burrito and had no regrets. I'm rarely disappointed when I find small local places like this. Can't wait to go back and try the tacos next time I'm in town for work.

This place has an amazing selection of meats for whatever you order. I got a spicy pork quesadilla and it was spectacular. I live over 1000 miles away from here and I would go out of my way on my trips to come back. Great food, and very friendly staff.

Today was my first visit. I asked the owner what's good and he said " get the spicy pork burrito my friend " . So I did and it was awesome. Ill be back to try more for sure.

Took a quick stop after a visit to Black Canyons just off main street next to the McDonalds. It was well worth it. Super friendly, let us try several meats before deciding. Worked around my onion allergy. We got 4 tacos: asada, barbacoa, and carnitas; and the smothered burrito with asobada. Everything was fantastic and well made. You could tell they really cared about their food and their customers. Anyone driving through on vacation looking for some great food at fair prices needs to stop here.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. My girlfriend and I been trying all the fast food Mexican places in Montrose. Fantastic vegetarian options. She got the veggie burrito and I got the spicy pork burrito. Blew our socks off! We love this place.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant on the Western Slope. I've had the smothered burrito, chile relleno and tacos. It's all good. Staff are super nice, including the owner.

This hole in the wall is worth the stop. The food is fantastic, the service friendly and quick. I hope they do well! I plan on coming back next time I am in town!
