Unexpected Delight at Elm Street Oyster House, Greenwich CT

Sometimes, the most unexpected detours lead to memorable experiences, and my serendipitous visit to Elm Street Oyster House in Greenwich, CT, was no exception. Originally en route to New Canaan, a flat tire and a subsequent two-hour wait at Mavis Tire Center presented an unforeseen predicament. Yet, what initially seemed like a dampener on my day transformed into an opportunity to explore Greenwich under the guise of a simple quest for a good meal.

Braving the 20-minute walk in the rain, I stumbled upon Elm Street Oyster House, a decision that turned my misfortune into a delightful escapade. The restaurant welcomed me with a cozy ambiance that was a much-needed respite from the cold rain outside. Opting for a mix of East Coast and West Coast oysters, I embarked on a culinary adventure that was both fresh and invigorating.

The highlight of my visit was not just the exquisite food but the warm and engaging service, particularly from a Brazilian server who was more than willing to share his rich experiences in Martha’s Vineyard. Our conversation was sparked by my curiosity about the Katama oysters on the menu, leading to a lively exchange about summer adventures in the Vineyard. It was this personal touch that elevated the dining experience, making me feel more like a guest than a customer.

Elm Street Oyster House proved to be more than just a place to eat; it was a sanctuary that offered solace and unexpected joy on a rainy day. The combination of fresh, delectable oysters and impeccable service made the walk through the rain utterly worth it. My visit to this charming establishment was a reminder that sometimes, it’s the unplanned moments that leave the most lasting impressions.

I eagerly look forward to my next visit to Elm Street Oyster House, a beacon of hospitality and culinary excellence in Greenwich, CT. Whether you find yourself stranded like I was, or you’re simply in search of a dining experience that combines great food with heartfelt conversations, this oyster house is a destination that should not be missed.

If you love seafood, give a visit while in the area. The oysters were fresh and every dish that we tried were so delicious. The service was fabulous and the staff’s recommendation was spot on.

This is a wonderful spot off the main street in Greenwich. I came with a party of 4, it is a smaller place so maybe not suited for large parties.

We hung out by the bar, and then were seated quickly. A lively atmosphere, cool interior design, and the food was excellent. Every one of us was raving about our meal from the crab cakes to swordfish. Service was very quick as well, and it seems like the whole staff pitches in with every table.

We'll definitely be back in the future next time we're craving some seafood!

This is a hidden gem of a place with fabulous seafood but only 1 turf on their menu- hanger steak. How fabulous is this seafood? I ate a crab cake with no problem & I don't even like seafood! Up & until now. Now Call it my tastes buds changing or whatever but a tiny, casual, seafood escape with a good wine list? Definitely worth the hour long trip from Manhattan. 4 people was close to 500.00 but this is in one of the wealthiest parts of Connecticut New York so it goes with the territory. Top tier 5th Ave type mall is right up the street too so shopaholics beware!!!

Passing through Greenwich on 95 from Virginia at dinner time with my wife, had to return to the Oyster House. Was as good as always and one can't beat the neighborhood. Perfect setting for a quiet meal. Only minor complaint the lobster bisque lacked the chunks of lobster I prefer but understand the more liquid style is not unheard of so we resolved to ask at any joint we visit. The namesake Oysters and fresh fish (I went with Mahi Mahi) were fantastic.

My favorite is Seafood Paella. Space can be a bit tight but this is one of the local hang out place. We also love to sit by the bar as well. We come to this place numerous time and never got disappointed.

Nice selection of seafood and the pan fried oyster starters were delicious! Both the halibut and Atlantic cod were tasty. We came in the late afternoon and they were able to still offer the whole menu. Servers were friendly.

Everyone enjoyed the food. The selection is great and we've liked everything we've ordered so far.
The seating is nice as it's a side street and not Greenwich Ave.

Super lovely place. On the pricey side but worth it if you're willing to spend a bit. I had a seafood ravioli and it was very good.

Recently stopped here on the way home from NYC, and I was pleasantly surprised at this find! I had the new England clam chowder and the mini crab cakes, and they were both great!

Stopped in based on reviews on our way back to Nantucket. We absolutely loved all aspects of this restaurant. Wait staff was upbeat, helpful and very professional. Menu is complete, yet seasonal, and encompasses many different seafood options. My mom had Chesapeake Bay soft shell crab, and I had Arctic Char. We also had steamers and clam chowder. All were excellent.

Sunday dinner with the Mrs as we casually sat at the bar. Bacon wrapped scallops were divine and the crab cake was excellent with the Deep fried Apple and sauce. We were fighting over the last bite. Half priced bottles of wine in Sunday so we had a nice bottle of champagne to wash it all down. We would have had oysters but at 3.50 each it’s a bit dear given the location and access to them. All in all a great dining experience and one of our usual haunts especially on a Sunday.

Great atmosphere and great service. Had the Buffalo shrimp. Three large shrimp lightly battered and fried with a wonderful and medium spicy Buffalo sauce. Great for sharing.

I had the Sake glazed King Salmon over brown rice and snow peas. The Salmon was perfectly cooked with some ginger on top. The snow peas were mixed with seasonal green beans. The taste was fantastic. The fullness and texture of the beans could be improved. Nicely co.plimented by the brown rice.

We shared a key lime pie for dessert and it was perfect proportion to share between the three in our party. Great texture and taste. Fresh whipped cream and a few blue berries on top and a half strawberry on the side. Very tasty!
