my second trip with the knowledgeable team at Pro Guiding Services! I recently attended the 4-Day Ski Mountaineering Course at Mt. Baker with Doug as guide! His unwavering commitment to safety, coupled with compassion, teaching skills, and exceptional skiing and mountaineering technique, made for an unforgettable experience. Doug, Danke Dir, bis nächstes Mal!

Trevor was professional, supportive and an excellent leader on our two day ski summit to Mt Baker. He had patience with our group and was instructional when asked for help and also gave appropriate pro tips along the way to make our trip experience efficient and safe. He created a relaxed vibe but we always felt safe and comfortable. He took our goals in mind along the entire trip. We had some past experiences from teens years growing up in the same area and instantly wanted to be friends in future adventures! 10 stars to Trevor and to top it off we got to see the northern lights on the mountain! Spectacular! Pro guide services emails and support pre trip was great and the gear check was helpful to minimize extra stuff. All around great team from start to finish ! Don’t hesitate to book your next adventure with them!

I was very impressed with Pro Guiding's responsiveness, professionalism, and the experience with my guide on a 3-day Mt, Baker ski mountaineering trip. I can't recommend them highly enough based on my experience with the office and our incredible guide, Craig.

I recently enjoyed the Ski Touring in the Fjords of Norway trip.

Pro Guiding, thank you for an amazing trip. Our guides, Trevor and Dave, put together a great itinerary of skiing objectives that met the wants and needs of everyone on the trip. I really enjoyed their calm demeanor and sense of humor. Or captain, Aslak, was a constant source of amusement and good food aboard our floating base, Framstig. Ski touring for 5 days straight in the fjords was fun. Well, more than fun…it was awesome. Great skiing surrounded by indescribable beauty. But living aboard a 110 year old Norwegian wooden sailboat was the highlight of the trip for me. Eating dinner by candlelight inside the cozy cabin with a different type of local fish each night, sailing through the fjords, a few beverages in the afternoons while visiting with new friends, taking the Zodiac to shore each morning with our ski gear; the whole trip was a great adventure with a little skiing thrown in. I’m already looking forward to my next trip to the fjords with PGS.

I just took the AIARE 1 class with Forest and Ben in the field and also Martin in the class and it was a fantastic learning experience. These guys are super knowledgeable, friendly and very good instructors!!
They will make sure you understand the avalanche forecast to plan your trips properly while in the couch, safe at home; as well as to observe the terrain and other conditions to confirm whether your plan was the right decision to enjoy a safe ride in the backcountry.
I am very happy with the outcome of the course and would totally recommend them to others.

This is my second trip with Pro Guiding service. Both times were ice climbing. Last year me and my son went with Dave to Alpental. It was so much fun that this year in addition to my son I brought 3 nephews and a niece. Zach and Matt were our guides. They were fantastic. They really helped us work on our form. We got a lot higher with less effort than last year!

If you're thinking about giving ice climbing a try, do it! It'll be a day you remember for the rest of your life!!!

My experience with Pro Guides was fantastic from the start. The scheduling was really easy and the office was very responsive and kind. The guide (Martin) was very knowledgeable and great at presenting the information in a simple and effective manner. He was also very personable and made the day truly enjoyable. I was fortunate enough to do a private trip and Martin discussed my goals beforehand and came prepared and organized to help me work towards those goals. I look forward to doing more training and trips through Pro Guiding and highly recommend them!

I took the AIARE 1 course from Pro Guiding service and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get started and be safe in winter backcountry travel. Reading snow conditions is a complex task and requires training from experienced experts. I was impressed at how comprehensive the course was, even at level 1. Our guide for the field portion of the course was extremely competent, showing us what to look for and getting the group safely up and down the mountain.

I have done many trips with Pro Guiding and can confidently say these have been some of the best experiences of my life. Why are they so great? It’s simple: the people. The trips have included many adventures in the US, Canada, and the Alps. All wonderful destinations to be sure. But after several decades of ski mountaineering I’ve learned that what distinguishes each journey is not the destination, it’s who you go with. The guides at Pro Guiding service are first rate. They make every trip special. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience with Martin for a 3 Day Ski Touring Course to discover backcountry skiing, learn about safety, navigation equipment and all the rest. I was really impressed with Martin, he took really good care of our group of 4. Anticipated the failure of my skins and offered spare ones, supported a friend with his skis, boots and poles equipment, offered to reschedule a day of one of us who could not attend the last day.
Beyond excellent service, he also lives what he teaches - safety first. We avoided places where everybody else was going because of potential avalanche risks.
I learned a lot, thanks Martin, you went above and beyond my expectations (And I tend to be demanding).
Will definitely come back for other courses and guiding.

I’m an avid backcountry as well as resort skier and will buy my gear only from Pro Ski and Guiding in North Bend, WA. The technicians and sales reps are top-notch, and being outdoor enthusiasts themselves can be counted on for expert advice. Their service is fast and reliable and they are quick to assist with any warranty issues.
I’ve taken several backcountry courses and trips with Pro Guiding over the years including a bucket-list week with owner and world-renowned ski mountaineer Martin Volken and his guides in the Swiss and French Alps. Don’t pass up the opportunity to take a trip like this, or any other of their myriad of local and world wide tours. You won’t regret it!

I have been involved in guided trips and educational courses with Pro Guiding Service for nearly 20 years. I can’t say enough good things about this organization and the great trips and education they have provided me over the years. My first trip in 2001 was the Forbidden Tour, a ski circumnavigation of Forbidden Peak in the North Cascades. It’s a tour that was established by Martin Volken, the owner and lead guide of PGS. It’s a four day trip, with full packs, that has a bit of everything including glacier travel, a bit of mixed rock and ice along with a rappel, snow camping, peak summits and of course long ski descents. My last trip was one year ago and was a ski mountaineering tour in the Ortler Alps of northern Italy. The years in between have been filled with multiple ski tours, ski mountaineering trips, sport and trad rock climbs, mixed mountaineering as well as educational courses in all. Especially memorable have been the trips to the Alps of France, Switzerland and Italy. These trips have always been well organized and have been accomplished without any logistical problems. It’s truly the best to have guides that understand US clients but still have extensive European connections and speak the local language fluently. If you’re looking for a guide service with extensive experience in the Cascades, Alaska, British Columbia and the Alps and also want a guide service that will get it done, and educate you along the way without hand holding, look no further than Pro Guiding Service.

Climbed and skied Columbia Peak with Pro Guiding Service. Our guide was very knowledgeable, safe, and fun. I learned a lot and would highly recommend them if you want to get out and safely enjoy the beautiful mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
