Class of 2023 Here!

This is my honest review. I'm a Non-Trad student. English as a second language. Never have I experienced any issues. They were and have been very helpful in all aspects. From the moment I applied and was accepted to the very last moment of my graduation. All my professors were very professional, very approachable, very understanding, and always tried to help as much as they could. Yes, I experienced disappointments like others, but sometimes it is very important to understand that we cause those to ourselves, those are consequences for our actions. It makes no sense to blame school. Like myself, getting a parking ticket. I assumed my responsibility and paid for it. Stuff like classes and their content, I believe, are pretty good. A lot of the classes prepare you for the real world. Advising is mostly online. Gotta book an appointment rather early than late. There are old buildings as well as brand new buildings. There are many restaurant options, which is pretty cool. There are a lot of trees all around campus to sit under when the weather is nice. I liked that I could take online classes, classes at the woodlands center, and classes at the Main Campus. Overall, my college experience here was awesome. If you come here with the right mentality of "working hard to earn your degree," you will succeed. They have all the tools available to make their students achieve their goals. I'd do it all over again. Thank you SHSU. I will always be proud to be a Bearkat! #eat'emupkats

I love SHSU. The university is amazing, I remember when I first got here in Fall of 2000, I've loved it ever since. I make it a point to stop by anytime I'm in Houston. It's a traditional to stop and take a picture with Sam and walk the campus. My daughter loves the campus and her first college football game was an SHSU one.

Beautiful campus, nice atmosphere for students, and strong police presence. I stopped here just to visit campus because it's one of my favorite universities. SHSU was having campus tours that day and we checked out the library, which is huge.

We had a great time. My grand granddaughter graduated with a masters degree. The center is beautiful well kept. And the staff is professional and friendly.
Have a good day. SHSU keep up the good work.👍🏿

Wow! Sam Houston State University really is a classic small-town University. Huntsville has done amazing things to insure a great college atmosphere has been preserved. A walkable and beautiful downtown creates a great backdrop for college life. The new president, Dr. White is a great champion for the University, The Arts and small town culture!

I loved SHSU while I was there. I never truly once had a “bad” professor. All of them were caring and helpful towards me and wanted to see students succeed. Great faculty. The students who do talk bad about the professors are typically the ones that don’t want to work and be there in the first place… There are ample amounts of free resources that the school has to offer students, but unfortunately many students don’t utilize them or are unaware of the resources they have access to as a student.

I couldn’t have chosen a better university. It really helped me develop character as a young adult. It has a huge programs in Criminal Justice, Education, Business, etc, with diverse classes, many professors, plus clubs and organizations to build your resume. My recommendation? Attend SHSU! You won’t be disappointed. Also, do an internship to get hands on experience in the field you want to do. It often leads to a job offer upon graduation. Eat ‘em up kats!

I love this school. I am in a PhD program here now, but I also have two other degrees from here (a bachelor's in psychology and an M.Ed in Education). The teachers are great and the school has lots of resources to help the students out, including a writing center, financial student education, and job and interviewing technique trainers that can help with resume's and interviewing tips and tricks. While the parking is an issue, I will say that the staff also pay more for parking than the students, which in some ways makes me feel better. Also, they are working on parking solutions in the future. Plus, most schools do not allow their freshman cars on campus, but we do. We allow all students parking. Look at some of the other major universities and you will find parking issues everywhere. The professors are great, the staff wants to help you, and I found a job with my M.Ed teaching less than four months post graduation. I worked that for 4 years. At any rate, campus is safe, clean, and the teaching is great.

Great place. When tailgating, men come around to see if trash needs to be emptied or bring you a trash can. Porta potties are the cleanest I have ever seen. We have tailgated at many schools and this is by far the best experience ever!

I loved the university when I attended as an undergrad. It was affordable and the perfect size. I was immersed in tradition and received a great education. As an alumni, I enjoy coming back to visit campus and see it change and evolve.

SAM is a great school and I loved my time there. The campus is beautiful! I found SAM to be staffed with an assortment of very qualified and talented instructors. All of my professors had their doctorates and were well established in their respective fields of expertise. Unlike many larger Universities, the professors I had actually taught every single class and did not rely on Teacher Assistants to do the teaching for them. It is evident that Sam Houston State was first established as a Teachers college because they get teachers who are qualified with the education, plus field experience to only confirm their knowledge. The town is not too big, but not too small. You see new people all the time, but will run into friends, too. Although Huntsville was much different from my home town of Austin, I quickly fell in love with the town and still go back a few times a year to walk the campus and eat at Zach's. I loved going to the football games and still make it back for them! Their football team is stout, going all the way to the Div I National Championship in 2011 and 2012! Eat 'em up, Kats!

Great school. I majored in Accounting and did the 5 year program. I had a job lined up before I finished my second year. I continually reach out to past professors for advice and my career.

I graduated in 2008, and the campus has changed a lot. I still hear a lot of complaints about parking. I never had an issue with it. I lived "close" to campus, but just walked everywhere (if you need a great place to stay, look up "Uncle Darrel's Place" on Ave J). Giving a 1 star ranking for parking seems petty to me.

The only knock I would say is that it IS a commuter school. That's why football games and things like that aren't always full, but we have a high enrollment rate. I get it though, you have to take students you can to grow as a University.

Another note, I was in the Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program through the College of Business. If you need financial aid and have great grades, and you're doing business, apply for the scholarship. I had no idea I would be qualified to get it, but applied because my mom shoved me that way when we visited the school. I met AMAZING people through that and the business school in general.

Sam Houston changed my life.

Great school, caring and helpful even in a pandemic. Academic programs are world class, world distinction for Crimminal Justice programs. Besides on campus, on line instruction is renowned. Counselors who are experienced and create a plan that is complete from the start. The only downside was the lack of on site recruiting once the pandemic hit. Prior experience, university is heavily recruited.

Great school, haven't encountered any rude people here, everyone tends to give you a smile if you make eye contact lol. School is really clean and I love the little town feeling huntsville has. Teachers vary greatly but I've had more good teachers than bad ones.

Affordable tuition, great atmosphere( huntsville is small town full of college students= parties and great memories). The campus itself is growing exponentially, the professors are hard knocks to preparing you for your career choice, with hand-on projects. Means no less powerpoints.

Overall loved my school, hopefully whoever reading can feel the same.
