Excellent pizza. Cooked to perfection, doesn't flop when you pick up a slice, and it has a nice sour kick. The appetizers and salads are so delicious. Our favorite is the whipped ricotta.

I love thé foods they have here. The Caesar salad was served with some sort of fermented fish and small bread crumps which was delicious. The pizza always was really amazing. I would go back again and try more of their menus. The drinks were also creative and refreshing.

Best pizza we’ve had in DC yet! Small place, small menu, but great food! They have indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the watermelon salad with mint that was delicious. The mushroom and halloumi pizza is their best seller-and definitely see why. I had the sausage pepper (no cheese) and ate the entire thing.

Martha Dear is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Not only is the food fresh, flavorful, and creative (I am obsessed with their pizzas and cocktails) but the service is top notch. The owner, Tara, is a delight, and helped me with a complicated dinner reservation snafu. I love this place and hope to frequent it more often, and recommend it to various out-of-town guests. I also happen to think they have some of the best pizza in DC!

was it pricey? yes. but this was one of the first good pies I’ve had in DC. perfectly crisp crust, delicious cheese, high quality ingredients. the hot dip is seriously hot but definitely worth getting to go with your pie and the lamb hummus!!! wowowow— perfectly whipped hummus with the most delicious savory lamb topping, served with “pita” which was basically the sourdough pizza dough but it was perfection.

one caveat— perhaps request the front dining room instead of the back if going for dinner when it’s still bright outside. the main dining room is dimmer and better lit for an intimate setting.

Wonderful appetizers, salads and pizza. The owner was very friendly. The lamb pizza and white pie (spinach, mushroom, etc) were finger-licking good.

::original review with an update::

This small pizza shop is owned by a husband wife pair. They have taken pizza to another level. The fresh and expertly curated toppings canvas a sourdough crust that is lightly crusty on the outside, but beautifully pillowy on the inside.
Our servers were expertly aware of dietary restrictions and we're able to modify to meet most the needs of our party.
We ordered one or more of each of the pies. And every... single... one was a knockout I personally don't like white pizza, and found myself eating over half of the one we ordered But if I had to pick one pie that you HAVE to try, get the sausage and peppers. It's a little riff where Italian sausage is subbed out for delicious 'nduja and we couldn't get enough.

Wine list a beautifully curated with skin contact, red, white, rose and lambrusco. Mostly Greek heavy. A nice Greek beer on the menu too. Don't drink? The sparkling lemon/lime/and orangeades are so refreshing.

The farm fresh cherries and feta was a phenomenal balance of rich, sour, sweet, and funky.

Broccoli rabe was stellar and we'll balanced

Roasted eggplant dip was devoured in minutes

**Tips**
- get the dipping sauces. The bagna cauda (anchovy butter) is a wonderful compliment to dip your crust in. Hot dip is a slam piece if you like spice in your life.

- my favorite "pizza wine" was lambrusco. And jammy sparkling red that will elevate the meal

-orders open at noon, and sell out. So plan accordingly

10/10 perfect. There's no place like this I have ever seen. Perfect service, beverage, and hospitality. This neighborhood joint sure knows how to make people happy.

** Update **
Have been back since, and operation is still stellar. Service is too notch, and the food is killing still. It seems they have added staff to keep up with demand. I can't wait to go back and see what they come up with next

Seriously great pizza! Halloumi and squash was spectacular. Lemon and potato was a great combination. You can't go wrong up and down the menu.

This place is cute as a MFr, I love sitting at the bar and watching them make pizza from scratch. Amazing process to watch, they’re so well orchestrated and everything on the menu slaps - not just the pizza. Calling this place a pizza joint is a disservice to its quality. Drinks bang too.

Absolutely amazing! You do need to go downstairs but it is quaint! The staff was lovely and the food divine! Like the rest of DC there is a service fee but well worth it!

If you live, work or visit DC - Martha Dear is a must! Incredible food, owners and atmosphere. Menu is focused and fabulous, but they mix it up to keep it interesting. Some of the best pizza I have ever tried. Enjoy!

Sublime little pizza experience. Mixes the high and low wonderfully. To quote washingtoncitypaper's review, "...Martha Dear is my subterranean, Rat Girl Summer destination."

Had to get this pizza the night they opened and it was amazing. The crust is the best I've ever had. It's almost the main event. Almost! We got the margherita with pepperoni and the mushroom halloumi pizzas. Loved them both. Pickup was easy. Glad to have this place in the neighborhood.

A fantastic neighborhood restaurant that serves yummy pizza, has friendly service, and is just a great all around vibe. I especially liked the whipped feta starter. The sausage and kale pizza was my favorite.

Great pizza and great service - went Sunday night of a 3 day weekend and the team was still firing on all cylinders. I sat at the bar and got extremely lucky with the last pizza of the night (around 7:30 pm). The pizza was crispy, cheesy, and perfectly salty/savory. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the pies.

Best pizza in DC I’ve tried so far. Some high praise with a lot of good contenders around. Tomato sauce is perfected with a firm but chewy crust. Octopus starter is a well conceived dish that’s balanced with flavorful pesto and a crouton thing that soaks it up well. Nice service with good drink menu as well!

My favorite restaurant in DC. I live in the neighborhood and take every single visitor here and everyone always loves it. The food is sooo good! Service is great too. Such a neighborhood gem!!! Sit at the bar / kitchen! Yes, it’s expensive! Check the prices before you go so you’re not surprised.
