Northern Union

We loved this place! Got into town late and found this place open a little later than most and decided to give it a try! The drinks were fun and unique and they also made us an amazing mock tail soon request! We started with the scallops, the potato latke and the braise beef cheek. The scallops and potato latkes were hands down amazing! Beef cheek was yummy and new as well! For entrees we had the halibut and the duck breast, both were delicious. We also asked the waitress about dog friendly places in the area, as it’s kind of off season for patios. She asked the owners for us and they offered us to come back and they would set us up outside with blankets and a fire! That was so kind. Unfortunately we are only in town for 2 days and don’t have time to return, but if we ever return to Ogunquit area we will definitely be back! A+ customer service as well as food!

I recently visited a restaurant that I consider a hidden gem. It offers delicious food, and the staff is fantastic. In addition, the wine collection is lovely. I was looking for a perfect place to celebrate my wife's birthday, where she could relax and enjoy a glass of wine and a good meal. Our experience at this restaurant exceeded our expectations, especially with the help of our waiter, Robert. He was well-informed about the menu and had extensive knowledge of each wine. Robert made our evening so unique that we couldn't have chosen a better place to visit. I want to thank everyone who made my wife's birthday memorable. We will return and look forward to seeing you all again during Valentine's week.

We had an incredible meal tonight celebrating birthdays! Livia was a wonderful server and made our experience even better! The charcuterie, cocktails, oysters, lamb and burger were perfect! This has become a favorite for us!

Exceptional and Surperb are the words. The menu was creative, each dish had its own exceptional taste. Staff was first class - friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was so relaxed - added to by our good friends Renee and Bill. This restaurant is one of the best I have been in - highly recommended

Always enjoy our time at Northern Union…to me, it’s a regular spot to stop when visiting Ogunquit. Went with a few friends for their first night open after kitchen renovations. The food was as tasty as ever - pictured below were my selections…the seasonal soup (spring ramp, potato and pickled ramps) and the pan seared duck breast. While there was a delay with one entree being delivered to our table, which is understandable on the first night of reopening, Lauren (one of the owners) made up for it without us having to say anything by bringing a round of port at the end of the night for our table - a very nice touch.

Overall I had a very pleasant and relaxing experience at Northern Union. I found the vibe to be a smidge too stuffy, but it was comfortable and inviting nonetheless. Amazing service, interesting and delicious food prepared with real care and intelligence. Portions are on the smaller side, and prices are slightly inflated for my taste. Definitely worth a visit if you want a premium dining experience in a sophisticated atmosphere.

Best meal so far in Ogunquit. Many choices of shareable /small plates. Nice main course selections. Good wine list.

There’s no better place on the east coast than Northern Union. Tim, Colleen, owners Lauren & Matt plus the entire staff make your meal an experience. The drinks & food are made to perfection every time. Our first night in OGT is always at Northern Union. It’s the sort of place you fondly reminisce about as the winter months crawl on toward yet another season in Maine.

We ended up here after searching for a nicer place to eat than the average. We were not disappointed. The service was impeccable, Colleen was friendly and attentive, while letting us enjoy the evening without unnecessary interruption. Her counsel on wine pairings was beyond reproach. The food was inventive and delicious. The ambiance is delightful, the decor is nice.

Cannot get enough of this place! Yes, the portions are not what you get at, say, Outback Steakhouse. That’s because you are not going to a chain steakhouse. The food is delicious, the drinks are out of this world, the bartender will make you whatever you want and suggest something you’ve never had before if you like. We had the same server as we did last year (Rob) and he’s incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, there-when-you-need-him-and-not-when-you-don’t, and has a dry, sly sense of humor. Can’t wait to go back!

Our daughter and fiancé chose Northern Union for their wedding celebration. Our guests left exclaiming it was the best wedding food they had ever consumed. Celebrated Chef Roman hit a home run with the corn soup and choice of entrees (duck, salmon or tortellini). The passed apps were glorious, and I’m so glad we splurged on good wine and champagne.

It was the most amazing wedding celebration and the photos are spectacular. Owners Lauren and Matt outdid themselves and the staff was exceedingly professional and pleasant. Bartender Tim mixed signature cocktails and the fireplace out front is an enjoyable place to sip adult beverages.

The mojo, appropriate lighting and good vibes in this restaurant make this one of Ogunquit’s best assets. We are planning to go there tonight for New Year’s because we know we will be delighted. We encourage you to support this thoughtfully conceived restaurant that blends the union of good wine and food.

If I could give more stars I would!!! Northern Union exceeded my expectations. I originally had only dinner planned, but some other plans fell through and I asked if they could provide a private wine tasting. Tim helped me set up the tasting and it was incredible. We had charcuterie boards during the tasting as some appetizers. Afterwards we had more appetizers that were also incredible. Rob guided our tasting. He was so kind, wonderful and funny!! He was able to handle 8 loud women! Dinner was incredible, followed by dessert. They let us stay passed closing and said to take our time heading out. We didn’t feel rushed at all. Thank you again! We will definitely be back in the summer! Cheers!

A very cozy restaurant. Expect waits in season and make reservations where you can. But excellent, inventive food, if a bit on the trendy side (we had deconstructed cheesecake...). Recommend the meatballs.

Great location , Matt and his team are fantastic , amazing food and wines selection. The chef is great , I saw the passion and the love in his dishes , top quality ingredients.

Phenomenal food. 10/10 would recommend- the flavors were so satisfying and the dishes were very creative. Only complaint is that for the price, the tortellini main was rather skimpy- I would have expected double the amount that was on the plate! Other than that, the chef knows what they are doing!!

What a gem in Ogunquit! The atmosphere is chic and comfortable. The owners were very welcoming and our server Melissa very helpful with wine recommendations. Our food was superior. Don't expect huge portions. Their concept is small, beautifully plated food where you eat just enough to feel satisfied. Be sure to order dessert and French press coffee to finish your meal! We loved it!

Saturday night brought a twist to date night for my wife and I. Phase 1 had us driving north into Maine to a place we had never been, Northern Union Restaurant & Bar in Ogunquit. It was such a beautiful evening, our reservations were for outside amongst the gardens. The setting was beautiful.

We began with the Meat and Cheese Board(pic 2), which included Calabrese, Everett's Tomme, a cow cheese from Maine, Cremeux de Bourgogne, a cow brie from France. The Board had pickled red onions, a cranberry/peach chutney, local honey, and crispy bread. This was one of the best boards we've ever had. It was delicious and light. I enjoyed a glass of Salentein, a Malbec from Argentina. Perfect.

For our main course, my wife ordered the Sweet Potato Tortelloni(pic 3). These were laid atop a carrot puree with oyster mushrooms, broccolini, and was accompanied by a parmesan foam. The presentation was stunning and very colorful. My wife said the flavors were exceptional and the ingredients were of high quality. She's still talking about it this morning.

I ordered the Hanger Steak(pic 4) medium rare and a second glass of Salentein. My dish had a celery root puree in the middle of the plate surrounded by broccolini, pickled red onions, and the steak covered with chimichurri. The presentation was bright and colorful. The steak was cooked perfectly and exploded with amazing flavor.

We ordered different desserts with my wife selecting the Tres Leches(pic 5). This had a Nutella mousse, a hazelnut cookie crumb, and dusted with a Nutella powder. OMG was that sinful!!!
I ordered the Carrot Cake(pic 6). Many are heavy and extremely dense. This was not. It had a cream cheese buttercream center that was whipped and light. It also had carrot, caramel, and toasted coconut. I tried to savor it, but that was a difficult task given how good it was.
Northern Union is a restaurant that will absolutely see us for a return visit. The staff was amazing and the service was excellent.

Phase 2 of date night was tickets to see the amazingly fantastic Joan Osborne at Vinegar Hill in Arundel(pics 7-9). They put on an unforgettable show and Joan sang for more than 2 hrs. Got home around 10:30. What an unbelievable night!!!

One word : AMAZING ! Everything was perfect : the food, the service, the ambiance. We strongly recommend you to visit this restaurant once in your life. Enjoy !

Colleen, our server has always been amazing. This was our third trip there and she is always amazing making great selections and suggestions. Lauren, a co-owner, has a personality that is all about hospitality. A visit is always planned when it town. You will be pleased with your visit.

Wonderful meal, great vibe. We started outside next to the fire pit but rain moved us inside to the bar. We enjoyed roasted carrots, pork tenderloin with peaches and the puttanesca followed by the apple upside down cake. Delicious. Great service and yummy malbec. Def recommend.
