The presentation from the different staff members was very informative and engaging. I'm not huge on history but the gentleman that was doing the tour was so passionate and engaging in his presentation it made it interesting and easy to listen to. I very much enjoyed it. I wish I had the whole day to listen to the other guides. I also very much appreciated that they had mobility scooters available for no additional charge that my aunt was able to use to get around. I would say it's a bit hard to get into the buildings with it but if you can park out front and walk inside it's much better.

Went there as a kid... didn't remember much. First time back this late August. My husband and I, our son and his girlfriend had a great time there...for hours! So much Michigan history to learn. Cool demonstrations. Very interesting! Can't wait to go back and spend more time.

An absolute wonderful experience! Self-guided, very fun to learn about and very well done preservation of American History. Plan to spend around 2 or more hours here! Bonus: great views of the lake and Mighty Mac!

Great place for kids has a cool playground and an active excavation. There is a cool walk around the fort over looking the water and a cool walk around the fort on the walls. Lots of stuff to see/do in each room.

Reconstruction of the oldest fort in Michigan (built by the french in the 18th century) and old lighthouse place. Live demonstrations like cannon firing. Great view of the Mackinac Bridge.

This site is an amazing place to visit for history lovers with a great site, amenities and thoroughly knowledgeable staff. The variety of buildings, ongoing reconstruction, museum components, original charred foundations, fort style kids playground, beach location make this a definite stop on any trip.

The fort was awesome. So much to see. The historical educators were awesome. Full of knowledge and always willing to engage the kiddos. Our favorite was the blacksmith since what kid doesn't like fire. Overall a great experience and a ton of archeological information. I highly recommend this for any age. Only downside was the directions took us across the bridge and back again to enter on the other side of the road. Make sure you turn off before the bridge.

We really enjoyed exploring the whole Fort! Everyone was super friendly and so knowledgeable! We learned a lot of new things about the 1700's and the fur trade 😊

Loved our visit! Everyone who works there is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. It's a lot of walking, but they provide electric scooters, if you need it. Highly recommend.

So happy I stopped here it was so worth the trip to see this place. The staff was absolutely wonderful. They were Very informative and had a vast knowledge of the History here and were more than happy to answer any questions I had. They have a live musket demonstration as well as many others. This is definitely for families or anyone who loves a good historical experience. I highly recommend coming to spend the day up here. Plan on at least 2-3 hours to really soak it in all in or an hour and a half to tour the place and just look.

We've seen this place from the bridge every time we cross, finally stopped to check it out! What an awesome experience! We got to step back in time to experience the life of the British, French, and the Native Americans during the 7 year war. The buildings are replicas of what stood there along with some original works that archeologists dug up.

Don’t skip! This place is must see! To visit the fort is like to use a time machine, that brings you to the Past. Take a stroll on the ramparts of the fort, walk the narrow streets to meet the people from the 18th century living their regular life, explore the ancient artefacts and the buildings carefully restored. Absolutely gorgeous!

My recent visit here was to attend Fort Fright, a delightful event featuring story tellers, a haunted house, a demon walk, fortune teller, werewolf walk, and much more. There were treats such as popcorn, peanut brittle, hot cider, and shortbread cookies. It was well attended but it was easy to keep your distance if you so desired. The workers that staffed the event were terrific! The story tellers each had a seating area around a fire pit. The Demon Walk was our favorite feature. And of course, the night views of the water and the bridge were amazing. The gift shop was open and had a nice assortment of items with something for every age and price range. Will need to update this when I visit the fort during its normal operating season.

We were on a visit to the area for a few days. This is a self guided tour to enjoy with several reenactments from staff in costumes, making history come alive.
We spent the morning going through many of the buildings and talks, left to meet up with friends for lunch and re-entered later in the day to continue our visit. We did not realize there is so much history in this area of Michigan and the staff was knowledgeable to answer questions about life in this fort. If you enjoy history, this is well worth taking a day to visit. We look forward to a return visit.

We had so much fun walking around the fort. It was stroller friendly and our 3 yr old loved seeing all the "old stuff". Incredible views and awesome staff dressed in colonial garb.

Very fun and informative place to learn about how influential Mackinaw and the fort have been! I loved how they were growing the gardens just like they would have hundreds of years ago. Very stroller friendly and can easily occupy 45 minutes up to hours for an older kid or an adult wanting to read the signs. Highly recommend!
