Basilone Statue and Park

I never knew this place existed till I read up a bit on John Basilone. As soon as I got this place mapped, I made a point to visit. The park is very clean and well maintained. There's a foot bridge to the other side of the river. The sculpture itself is very detailed, and larger than life. John is holding the famous, water jacketed Browning that he wielded with great execution.

The statue is at one end of the Duke Canal. It leads into Duke River Park, which is enjoyable and beautiful. There are paved and unpaved walking and biking paths. At some points on the Canal Path, the Canal is on one side and the Raritan River is on the other.

Like this park I discovered it because it was my rest spot between my school bus route for a year . I used go there in all season it’s quite pleasant year round place you talk a nice walk alone the beautiful trail may fish in the river take great pictures.. it’s a great place to visit for tranquility .

A small spot to sit and relax or enjoy your lunch break in today’s times. Nothing fancy and no “true park” features, but a great view of the lower branch of the Raritan River and a nice spot to park to enter nearby Duke Farms.

An annually celebrated WW2 hero, this is the only one I know of that is celebrated in the manner. This is a must see parade as well as statue. We should never forget those who gave there lives in support of other.

Visited there with my Brother, I served in the Corps and my Brother was Calvary Scout!! Semper Fi!

Such a great gesture and wonderful example of a small town's love for its heroes. A fine statue and place to meditate upon the sacrifices so many made to preserve freedom and liberty.

Outstanding memorial for an even more outstanding man. John Basilone is a WWII hero and an icon for all Americans and New Jerseyans alike. He is my personal hero and a man we all should hold in highest gratitude! Thank You for building this world class memorial!

John Basilone ...an American hero and patriot. His name isn't mentioned in our schools...what a shame.
