Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital

I cannot thank the staff of Broward Avian & Exotic enough for the love and care that they have shown me and my pets Porridge, TJ, and Sticks.

In September of 2022, my hedgehog Porridge started to have urinary bleeding. I took the day off from work and called the clinic, they were able to fit me in the same day with Dr. Healan (who also cared for my boyfriend’s tortoise, TJ), and from there we found out that she was having reproductive issues and that she needed to be spayed. At that point I thought that I hadn’t done enough as an owner, and that I should’ve done more to avoid being in that situation. But Dr. Healan’s kindness and guidance allowed me to understand that these things happen and are unavoidable. Porridge was spayed the same night, and I got a call about an hour after leaving her for surgery, Everything went well and I would be able to pick her up the next day — my girl is nearly 3 years old now and I can’t thank the staff enough for giving me the opportunity to love my girl longer than I anticipated.

Since then, Porridge has been under the care of Dr. Madrigal and Dr. Baldwin. In 2023, Her brother TJ was unfortunately involved in a freak accident, my boyfriend and I called to see if we could have him seen and the staff told us to come in as soon as we could. They assessed him as soon as we got there, it was our 2nd time meeting Dr. Madrigal, and I was so happy to see him because I knew then and there that no matter the outcome, TJ would be cared for with the utmost respect. We said goodbye to our boy that day. My family was so cared for and well taken care of the entire time, especially by the front desk staff, thinking about how we were treated makes my heart full every time, and we are so grateful.

We have healed enough to have gotten another tortoise, Sticks, who the clinic loves to see! He comes in for wellness checks, and his sister Porridge comes in for older lady diagnostics and treatments such as laser treatments for her osteoarthritis, x-rays, bloodwork, and ultrasounds. Sometimes the occasional cyst which Dr. Madrigal and Dr. Baldwin are happy to resolve.

Words cannot describe how thankful and grateful I am to have found such a caring and thoughtful hospital for my pets. They have always been there for us through the scary and the good. We cannot recommend another exotic hospital enough, and our thanks goes to all the front desk staff, the technicians, and the doctors. Thank you for everything.

I absolutely love this place. It's always nice to bring my hamster Molly here. When I brought her in for an ear issue they not only gave me treatment, they helped me pick out a much better diet to feed her, Gave me a little education on anything I asked, and even told me they thought she was so cute in her bus carry cage they took photos of her which they also sent me! Recently, I lost that hamster, and they made it a flawless transaction even when faced with a very emotional client holding a box containing their loved pet. They had a beautiful selection of Urns to choose from aswell. They handled that box very gently and with respect and I thank them for that very much. If i get another exotic, I'll bring them here for sure.

Dr. Madrigal is incredible. His bedside manner with pet parents is phenomenal and he explains everything down to the minute detail about how your animal is doing not only in the moment at the office but also in general.

He does a thorough background check (via interview) of the animal’s husbandry to ensure that we aren’t just curing symptoms but actually getting to the root cause of the problem.

I took my 24 year old leopard gecko to come get a stuck shed out of her eye and I was pleasantly surprised with how easy the procedure was especially because I just want her (Spotty) to be comfortable in her old age. The office thinks I may have a world record leopard gecko 😂 - I would give Dr. Madrigal a 10/5 but 5/5 is just as good.

Dr. Madrigal takes care of his patients as if they are his own and understands how distraught an exotic animal owner can be when their beloved pet needs a bit of a “tune up”. Thank you Broward Avian & Exotic!! Made my day and Spotty’s entire year I’m sure.

I also received a demo on how to give Spotty her eye drops as she heals some conjunctivitis that built up from the stuck shed but her eye is back to normal!! She can see again. A miracle.

We spent many months and thousands of dollars with two other vets, including one who was ARAV registered, to treat our two bearded dragons--they either didn't know what they were doing, or just didn't care. Dr. Baldwin was the first person to give them a real comprehensive workup; she was patient and answered all of our questions, and she prescribed a treatment plan that has shown amazing results--they went from never coming out of their hides to basking and exploring in just 10 days. I'm confident that without Dr. Baldwin's care they would never have recovered--now they are finally going in the right direction.

We take our bearded dragon Rex here, and have been very happy with the care he has received. Dr. Baldwin’s treatment has helped him tremendously, and I sincerely appreciate her kind nature and her understanding as she listens to our concerns. He is feeling much better, and we are very grateful for her expertise. The front desk staff is always very friendly and helpful, and I am grateful we found a great exotic vet close by.

I lost my 10-11 year old bearded dragon today and it was extremely difficult and emotional for me. Dr Madrigal and the rest of the staff today truly helped me through this awful process and were so unbelievably kind. Words can not express how grateful I am for these angels. Thank you all so much for taking care of my baby Frank. The staff here is wonderful.

The staff and the doctors are absolutely fantastic! They have taken wonderful care of my african gray parrot, up to an including the day my parrot sheba had Surgery for cataracts. Their personalized care and tenderness and empathy is unique in today's world. I highly recommend them

Great vet for exotic animals. I needed to get my male chinchilla who bonded with my female neutered and not only did everything turn out great but Dr. K took the time to explain and make sure I understood the importance of what these creatures needed to be their healthiest. I will be returning to her office for all my chinchillas needs..very grateful for this place.

I can not say enough GOOD things about Broward Avian, the staff, Dr. Balwin in particular, and the care they have ALL provided and shown our son's bearded dragon. They are simply the best for any pet, and we can not recommend and thank them enough as does our boy, "Lemmy" the lizard.

All I can say is that the kindness from not only the front desk, but from the staff was great and the entire process with my guinea pig from the moment I made contact over the phone to the surgery, diagnostic and then unfortunately we had to humanely euthanize my 5 year old little boy, but the doctor (Doctor Faith Burgos) was remarkable. They made this difficult moment so much easier. Their knowledge, compassion and bedside manner for me was above standards. Thank you all.

You never think you'll have a bird emergency. But today we lived through just that. So glad we were referred to Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital. They received her straight away, did all the necessary tests and treatments. We're back home with our beautiful bird now. She is recovering well. Thank you to the kind doctor and staff that helped us through this. Your efficient and compassionate care did not go unnoticed.

The staff and Dr. Madrigal were excellent, accommodating and passionate with what they do. My little chinchilla was treated like a King his GI issues are getting better and unfortunately his teeth’s are not great but Dr. M has a plan to get through it. Thank you guys so much for what you do

Dr. Kelleher and Dr. Thielen have taken exceptionl care of Bun Bun (black dward dutch) and Dottie (hot tot / english spot) for years. Now Franky joins the 2 girls and as you can see in the pic of him sprawled out on the hospital floor, he feels pretty comfortable. This is an amazing place.

I brought my two uromastyx in last minute on emergency . I just purchased them and Dr Kelleher and staff were great. They did blood work , X-rays and sent home meds . I absolutely am so impressed with their efficiency and care

My rescue buns have been patients for a couple years now and I just adore the staff and particularly Dr. Thielen. Recently we were switched and became the patients of Dr. Pardini. At first I was like where is Dr. T ??? However Dr. Pardini was so sweet, genuine and loving and I was so impressed with her that I did not mind the switch at all.

Eight days after just a general check up for the three, I found my older and bigger boy, Lou, barely breathing and totally lethargic that morning. I rushed him out to Avian and Dr. Pardini did everything she could do for him. It was a freak thing that can happen to a rabbit and he could not be saved but her compassion and sweetness as I sobbed were very comforting.

How amazing it is to encounter such beautiful people inside and out. Thank you all for all that you do.

We’ve taken our lionhead rabbit here a few times and the staff and both Dr. K and Dr. Madrigal are so great! He is a very shy and skittish boy and they all handled him with such gentleness and care. Both docs are so friendly and intelligent and super informative. We are very happy to have found this office!!

Absolutely the BEST for exotic animal care!
My Amazon parrot, who was abused in his previous life and trusts no one but me, needed his regular beak, wing and nail clipping and I had just returned to the area after several years in another state. I was worried when I scheduled his appointment.
I should have known that once we were put into our exam room, and met a wonderful man who wasn't intimidated by any of the animals he was introduced to daily, Izzy, my Amazon, found he wasn't being intimidating and submitted to the quick and knowledgeable handling of a medium sized parrot by a trained vet, and was whisked away for his beauty treatment. He returned looking like a new bird, neither the techs nor the vet had been harmed, and the bird had learned a lesson about how to behave in this new environment! A wonderful experience for me AND my Avian buddy!

I am now not only returning with Izzy, but am also bringing my Guinea Pig and Hedgehog in for our next appointment, too!

Loki is doing so much better very active and very happy. My little guy is back to normal.
