We recently returned from our visit to Fairy Stone State Park where we stayed in one of the newly renovated cabins; cabin 12.
We arrived very late, or, very early: around midnight.
It was cold and very windy upon arriving. The cabin porch light was on and our reservation packet/park information was inside the mailbox inside the doorway.
I was having difficulty getting the door to unlock. Upon reading the directions about turning the dead bolt away in the direction away from the door jamb after entering code for entry; I still could not get the door to unlock.
I was not in panic mode, but with the wind blowing, and, the cold, and, it being late in the night, I could only see inside the cabin and desperately want in!
I stood as close to the inside door with the storm door as close to me as possible to shield the wind.
After a few attempts, my son was able to unlock the door!!!
Inside the cabin was warm. The temp was set to 65°f. The cabin temperature was very much welcomed from the cold and wind outside.
The cabin has recently been remodeled and it was very nice and clean.
We brought our belongings in from the car and the steps to the car and back to the cabin were no problem for me. It being cold and windy, I ran back and forth up and down the steps to keep warm and hurry the task to be done!
The day temps during our stay were wonderful. The sun was out the whole stay. It was cool enough to wear a jacket, but, it could warm up enough to remove it. It was just perfect weather to enjoy a fire in the cabin at night, and to enjoy walking about the park in the sun during the day.
A bundle of fire wood was on the screened porch for us. A firestarter and matches were on the fire place mantel.
The wind on the dam/Spillway was stout; but, walking along the Lake Shore Trail I had to remove my fleece jacket. It was handy to have my jacket while out during the day; at times I was too warm with it on and I would take it off, then later find myself chilly and need to put it back on.
I enjoyed walking on the Lake Shore Trail and the Turkey Ridge Trail; good views of the lake. I especially liked viewing the lake from higher up on the trail. Overall, just lovely walking the trails.
We went to the Fairy Stone Hunt Site. I felt a little like gold miners must have felt. I was trying to find my treasure somewhere out there. I felt like Harry, Ron, and Hermione looking for the Horcruxes! They did not know what they were searching for looked like, nor, did they know where to look to find them.
I knew from info what the fairy stones should look like, but, where exactly to find one, that I did not know.
I looked. I used a fork looking branch to rake away leaves to uncover where the "precious" may be. I looked high and low; around tree trunks and roots. After a while, I felt like a fisher with no bites. I began to think I would enjoy walking trails instead; I feel enjoyment and accomplishment when walking/hiking; here, looking for fairy stones, and not finding my "prized" stone made me feel the "bird in the bush" may not be worth losing the "bird in my hand". We decided to walk the trails in the area. I say trails, but, I think we walked a wash gully to a road and then back down to the parking lot. Along the way, my son found a fairy door on a tree! That was our biggest find at the Fairy Stone Hunt site; along with being out in the sunshine, looking for fairy stones, relaxing, and just out and about together.
(I did find some stones that I think are fairy stones...just not the desired "prized" stone.)
We walked the Beach Trail to the beach area. The lake was picturesque and the sandy beach was white and clean.
I could imagine the area lively in the summer with swimmers, and sunbathers, and, children playing in the sand; for us it was peaceful, tranquil, and serene.
We visited the Visitor Center. It has informational displays of fairy stones, moonshining, and animals, etc. The animal displays have skulls and furs of various animals.
We had an enjoyable stay at Fairy Stone State Park and I look forward to returning.

Spent three days camping and enjoyed the experience. The campsites were a little closer than I prefer, but it wasn't an issue this trip as it's outside peak season. The bathhouse was clean and stocked. The park was just lovely. I was able to get a couple of runs in, a nice hike, and a very relaxing paddle on the lake. I just love the mountain setting. I am looking forward to more trips in the future.

Very nice fall get away. I was pleasantly surprised with the CCC dated cabin. Newly renovated. Very clean and comfortable. Nice pedestal grill and fire pit. Park camp sites would be a challenge for a larger camper. Really enjoyed my stay. Wish I could have stayed longer.

This was a neat clean park. The staff was helpful, and there was something for everyone.
The swimming area is great for parents of small inexperienced swimmers. It is super super shallow and roped off. Id youv aren't interested in swimming, you can sit under the beautiful big trees before the beach.
There is no real place to fish the lake unless you bring or rent a canoe or kayak. We primarily came for a birthday party, so we didn't bring either. That was a bummer.
Showers were awesome. The campsites were all shaded. Hiking was beautiful.

They have gravel and sand tent pads. The bathrooms were always clean. I loved that there are separate, personal shower rooms ( not just stalls with a curtain). The hiking trails were well maintained. I do wish the maps provided had more detail. Spoke with other campers that agreed it was not the easiest to figure out how to get to trails from the campground.

My family and I went to the beach and swimming area which was beautiful and a really fun time. We also rented one of the boats that you control by pedaling it and it was also a lot of fun. We also brought lunch and were glad they had several picnic tables for us to use. They also had a playground that the younger children that were with us enjoyed playing on. If you're looking for something cheap and fun to do with the kids on a hot summer day, I definitely recommend this park.

They also have the most beautiful little cabins you can rent. Perfect for the whole family or a weekend getaway with the girls or your significant other.

Stayed at cabin 5, which was a long cabin that has been remodeled earlier in the year. It was super clean and fit a family of 5 well. I enjoyed not having a TV and limited cell access.

Nice campground in the woods. Scenic walking trails. Well managed - campground road could use repairs but the campsites, electric and water were all in good order.

Beautiful peaceful trails, wooded camp sites and several very nice picnic shelters. The mercantile at the beach is closed, but it looks real nice.

This is a hidden gem! Hunting for fairy stones is free, and they are everywhere, but do your research beforehand on what they look like before going you can easily miss them. They are six sided and can come as singles or crossed. On the other side of the park there is a swim area and camping. The swim area has a concession stand, gift shop, and you can even rent a small boat or kayak for the lake. Bathrooms are clean, and lots of shaded areas to rest under. There is a fee for the swim area and main park.

Went to the 11 am ranger led fairy stone hunt and had my own personalized guide with Ranger Stephanie. Was able to find a few but bought a perfect one in the gift store afterwards. What a magical place!

We camped on the campgrounds. I did tent camping and others in my family did RV camping. This place is perfect for tent camping. Some sites have very scenic spots where level ground might be hard to find. There is plenty of shade from large trees all over the campgrounds. The bathrooms and showers are kept very clean, even over the weekend. Other campers and staff seem friendly and respectful. There are moderate hiking trails that can be accessed from the campgrounds. The turkey ridge trail was nice, shaded, and had rolling hills. Great experience! I would stay here again!

This state park was really nice to visit on a hot day. The trails were clearly marked and easy to get to. Some routes are more strenuous than others, but worth it. The beach area was not too big, just enough for small gatherings (I went on the 4th of July so I believe it was more packed than usual). I had fun searching for the "fairy stones", too!!

We had a great time visiting this park! We enjoyed a hike along the Little Mountain Falls trail and two Ranger programs that were fantastic. Shout out to Danny and the Magic of Trees!

We also had a great time (and success) hunting for fairy stones.

All around great park and we can't wait to come back.

Finally got to visit and do some tent camping in this, the most beautiful place we've camped in a long time. Your camp host was a very friendly, courteous person who obviously knows no strangers and is 100% on top of her game. We're definitely planning on returning.

Great location for shoulder season camping. The cabins are newly renovated and the location feels remote even though it's close to major population centers. The yurts were a bit dated but still fun. Book early.
