Captain Dave's On the Gulf

We had a great experience at Captain Dave's. Our waiter was great, the food was great, perfect views of the gulf, not sure how I couldn't give this place 5 stars. The food was outstanding and the portions were huge also. It is a little more on the pricey side compared to some of the other local and area restaurants, but this was probably our favorite place we ate while on vacation.

Captain Dave’s is a staple of our family when vacationing in Destin. This was hands down the best meal of the week and we’ve been to a lot of seafood restaurants while visiting . The service was amazing, the food was perfect, and the view is beautiful. Go ahead and get the twice baked potato, you won’t regret it. Captain Dave’s is so consistent year after year and will continue to be our one Must Go place while here.

We absolutely loved the service, atmosphere and the food. We had the coconut shrimp for our appetizer and surf & turf (filet/lobster) for our meal. Steak was cooked perfect and seasoned good! Will definitely be back if back in the area.

I had bacon wrapped scallops and a baked potato & my wife had a burger see enjoyed - both yummy. We arrived right when they opened & had no wait for table or service. We will return next March. 🐬👍

My husband and I looked at several menus in the area for our 10th wedding anniversary dinner. We are both Florida natives, him from south Florida and myself from the forgotten coast. We decided on Captain Dave's because of two particular offerings on the menu. I got the stuffed shrimp Parmesan and my husband chose the stuffed flounder. Both were phenomenal. The atmosphere was good aside from a VERY large party (not the restaurant's fault, and it didn't affect our service, just the ambiance). Mark was out server, and he was very attentive. The Dr now we're good, the food was great (however, if the vegetable option is green beans, don't expect much better than canned). The crab appetizer was great, very tender crab claws. The entrees were fantastic. This is a family friendly place, so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, there are probably better choices, but if you are basing your decision on food quality, Captain Dave's can't be beat. Both of our portions were big enough to have for lunch the next day. And if Mark is your server, you are definitely not going to be disappointed!

Great location right on beach. Friendly bartender with great happy hour rates. We didn't eat entire main course but had apps and salad which was very good. Prices are fair for what you get. Food servers were warm and welcoming. Service is really fast and food hot! We ate here repeatedly during our visit. As a bonus, it's right on beach so view is wonderful. Recommend!

The food and drinks were amazing. Good atmosphere as well. Exactly what the girls and I were looking for, for a nice sit-down birthday dinner. I had the lobster tail, and it hit the spot.

Food was excellent, wait time wasn't bad at all, they have a bar area and outdoor deck area with great view of the gulf while you wait and have a drink. There is a parking lot across the street from the restaurant lot of space and convenient don't have to walk far. Nice set up inside service was great our waitress was outstanding and personable, they are busy so just be patient and relax! We had surf and turf steak tender and the shrimp was lightly batter was so good. Others had the stuff shrimp parmesan really good, a little bit rich taste but NO left overs!!
Worth a visit while your in town on vacation or a local!!

Overall from adult entrees to children's menu everyone of the group of 18 was very happy. Numerous positive comments from Outstanding, excellent, fantastic and it was wonderful. I had the Cajun Reddish with Shrimp which was excellent, my wife enjoyed the Stuffed Shrimp Parmesan, both dinners included baked potato and house salad. Other main courses were Coconut Shrips and Seafood gumbo, Clam Chowder and the House salad with Grilled Mahi Mahi, Fried Shrimp dinner with fried Oakra, House salad.
Sone of the kids meaks were Shrimp and fries, Cheese burger and fries, and Chicken strips with fries. Service was excellent and handled by three waiters with Cherry overall.

Cajon Redfish is the best anywhere on the coast. I've been eating here since 2011, and it never has been nothing but great as well as the seafood gumbo and stuffed shrimp. This is a must stop if you're in the area.

View of the beach was great. Food delicious except fried Okra, it was tough. Snapper Jane was wonderful and blackened redfish was terrific too. Liked the homemade salad dressings. Coconut shrimp appetizer also good.
Atmosphere was casual and rather rustic but there are pretty aquariums.

Totally 5 star place. Absolutely the best seafood in the area I would give this place 20 stars if I could. My beautiful wife got the steak and baked potato and she said it was cooked just right and was delicious, (she has to eat steak because she is allergic to seafood of any kind, it sux to be her). I got the stuffed shrimp broiled in parmesan sauce (the shrimp was stuffed with crab meat) and it was the BOMB omg you talk about good this is it. I was full and still had about a quarter of it left and I was not going to waste it so I sat there and ate the last few bites knowing that it was going to probably make me sick from eating to much and thank goodness it didn't make me sick but I was bloated and miserable for a couple of hours. We wanted some key lime pie but we both knew better because we were so full. Been going to this place since the early 90s and will be back in a couple of years when we come back on vacation. We are from Texas. Hook em Horns.

This is my favorite restaurant in Destin, Florida. We ate their 2 days in a row, and I will definitely go back again. I highly recommend the server, Alex. He is awesome. Our group of 9 enjoyed his service, and our cups never ran dry. Excellent service.

Had a great meal at this place with a nice view of the ocean. Due to the reviews talking about wait time we went around 430, we got seated right away. Service was good, you do get the feeling they're trying to get you in and out but it's understandable as the place was filling up fast and there looked to be a wait by the time we left. Had the bang dang shrimp, which was very good. Then for the main had the grouper pontchartrain which was incredibly good. The fish and the soft shell were both cooked great and the bearnaise sauce tied it all together nicely. Got the wild rice for the side and it was also very good.

This was our 2nd visit to this restaurant. We have tried many seafood restaurants in the Destin area over the last 25 years. What made us pick this one last weekend was that we knew it was air conditioned and on the beach. We got parked and into the entrance with no issues. They seated us within a couple of minutes. The place was filled with well dressed patrons. The waiter was extremely helpful and accommodating. I ordered the the grilled mahi-mahi and shrimp skewers with a seafood gumbo. My wife had the fried seafood combo that came with fried shrimp, mahi, scallops, stuffed crab and oysters. We both had baked potatoes and salad. Desert was key lime pie (of course), but the surprise was the chocolate graham cracker crust. Who would have thought? No complaints at all! I wish I had tried their blackened version - but I had it earlier at another restaurant, and twice in one day is too much for me.

If you want to dress it up a bit and enjoy a great dinner on the gulf, Captain Dave’s is a great option without have to travel into Destin proper. We were the underdressed couple, but really enjoyed the experience!

Had a large party of 20. Very busy weeknight. Our server, Skylar, was FANTASTIC! He kept drinks coming. All food was outstanding! Scallops and Hot Dang shrimp appetizers were my favorites. Grouper Jane, fried red snapper, and Mahi Mahi parmesean were FABULOUSLY DELECTABLE! So full, couldn't even get any desserts.

We were looking for a quick place to grab dinner so the kids could get back to the house we were staying at and swim in the pool since it was our last night before we had to go home.

The hostess was great, she noticed our girls (5&7) looking at the fish and got us a table with a fish tank right next to it so the girls could look at the fish. When we were leaving we stopped to look at the fish tank at the front again and she was telling us the names she had given some of the fish in the front fish tank by the hostess stand. Lily was a very pretty fish! She looked like she was glowing.

We ordered as soon as the server came by to ask about drinks and the food came quickly. The girls enjoyed their shrimp and my husband and I split the seafood sampler. Both of us loved the crab. The okra was good and I ate all the broccoli. I liked the shrimp and scallops as well.

Overall the food was great, there was no wait. The staff was super nice and we enjoyed it. I would come back again if we are visiting in the area.

I had a fried red snapper with greens twice baked potato some of the best red snapper ever had in my my husband got blackened red snapper we had two more gas with us and they had steak and shrimp this was some of the best food. And we got to see a proposal on the beach that was a highlight of!!! Congratulations to the couple!!!!

Always have to eat here when in town. The food is always consistently delicious and the service is impeccable. We had a variety of dishes this trip and all servings were exactly as ordered and were delicious.

It's good place to dine in knowing we stay in the beach for whole day and we need shade and cool place lol ,The food was good & so the service ! 10/10 .If you looking for a restaurant that you can see the ocean view and serve good food then you must check it out if you visiting Destin !
