GRIT Therapeutic Horsemanship

Think your child with a disability is capable of achieving more?   We did and so did Kat Scott with GRIT Therapeutic Horsemanship & Scothaus Counseling.  Riding with Kat has been a game changer for our daughter and family!

My daughter, Carley was behind academically, struggled socially, had severe anxiety, ADHD, developmental delays and had little confidence. At age 8 (in 2015), she began therapeutic riding. For the next two and a half years, she made great strides. In 2018, Kat became her instructor and WOW! Carley’s level of achievement kicked into high gear.

Kat saw so much potential in Carley and helped Carley see it too!   Kat encouraged and challenged Carley to branch out and take risks (safely of course). With Kat’s guidance, Carley quickly had her “Ah ha!” moment and proved to herself she was more capable than she realized. This was pivotal and completely changed Carley’s outlook, boosted her confidence and made a lasting positive impact.  Kat saw through the “disability” and saw Carley’s ABILITY!

Kat gave Carley the freedom to try and be successful at new things, including jumping, galloping, and riding in horse shows. These experiences catapulted Carley’s confidence to a whole new level and resulted in academic, and social improvements. It was the perfect physical outlet to work out the anxiety and nervous energy too.

Kat is a P.A.T.H. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified, and a licensed professional counselor. This was a huge benefit for our family. Kat shared tips and tools to help during times of struggle.

Kat is compassionate, intelligent, hardworking, patient, encouraging, and has the best interest of her clients in mind. Most of all, Kat is inspiring to those around her.

Carley is now training her own horse and becoming a confident, independent young woman.

GRIT, Kat and her herd have welcomed my beloved 20 years old TB Luke with an open heart, and I feel blessed every single day that our path crossed.
He is cared for, loved, respected for his singularities.
The whole crew at GRIT is constantly looking after the well-being of their herd.
Remember the February 2021 snowstorm…. Yep….. it was a one-woman show the whole week, putting her animals ahead of her own safety and care. She will go above and beyond for her four-legged family (horses, poneys, cats and dogs) as well as any human being in need of confort and support.
Anyone who crosses GRIT gates and Kat’s path will be one very luck soul.
Any horse, and other animals, should be so spoiled in their lifetime.

Grit has become like family since my daughter started lessons there a couple years ago. If you’re thinking about starting lessons, GRIT is the place for you.

We’ve been coming to GRIT for almost a year and it has been such a blessing to our family! Kat is great with my son and we have been able to work on his behavior and confidence. She is super knowledgeable with riding and it is a bonus that she is also a great therapist! We recommend her to everyone we know all the time!

Kat is a skilled clinician who cares for the people and animals in her care. She creates individual plans to make sure each client has their own independent focus. Each horse has their own training program to make sure they stay in top shape for their important work.

I recently toured this facility with the plans to begin horse riding lessons. Everything about it felt so right and in alignment with my values. There is a peaceful and intentional energy radiating throughout the space. All of the animals there are so enlivened with a certain sparkle in their eyes. I could really see the sweetness and harmony from Kat’s investment into the care of everything. The impression of this space left me feeling confident that I will be able to accomplish work much deeper than typical horse riding lessons would bring.
