Wow! Just wow! Not only was my car done in significantly less time than I anticipated, this shop diagnosed several problems that had been causing me tremendous headache for too long. I had to spend more on parts replacing things than I had initially planned, however, was met with an amazing staff with tremendous experience and exceptionally communicative every step of the way. Jim and the mechanic Justin that worked on my car were on top of it and I couldn't be more grateful. My car has never driven better!!!! I have complete faith and trust in this shop and will be bringing all of my vehicles, both personally and professionally, here from now on!

This has to be the best transmission shop in FL. Caring, honest mechanics. They took the time to thoroughly explain repairs and teach preventive maintenance. They even took the time to polish away fingerprints the tow truck driver left on my paint! It’s clear they enjoy their customers and take their work seriously.

The transmission went out in my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. A friend of my wife from her work referred me to Jim. After he and I talked, a new transmission was installed in 3 days. Excellent job, courtesy and value. The whole process was explained day by day and always kept in constant contact. Thank you Jim and your crew for treating me like family and taking excellent care of me!

OUTSTANDING SERVICE. This business could have 1000000 stars if possible. I had a very rough experience with aamco, afterwards i called Jim Dowells and was immediately greeted with a kind, understanding and helpful man named james. Wonderful guy, very welcoming- clearly states every cost and time frame and didn’t buffer in either! Not only was he great but so were all the other guys! Justin and Donny were the guys out there working on my van and were super knowledgeable and friendly. These guys know their stuff!! I highly highly recommend this place for any vehicle! Also a note for the ladies- as a young female, i am ALWAYS treated like i am dumb and just brushed away by auto people. NOT HERE! they were really fantastic and explained things to me without making me feel dumb. The shop is clean, clutter free, and i just can’t stress enough how wonderful they are!! Thank you so much to the staff!

I own a 66 Mustang with a C4 transmission.
Unfortunately after a few weeks of ownership and and an already staggering garage bill, her transmission started acting up

Called about 4 places just to be told 3 to 4 grand for a full rebuild , sight unseen
Jim was the first person to even think to ask "Well, what exactly is it doing ?"

Told me to bring it in and they would assess the issue at no cost and see if wanted to move forward.
Verdict? Full rebuild.
However , the fair price of the work , the professionalism and communication throughout insured that i did infact move forward with the work.

A few months down the road i was having a small vaccum issue from normal ware and tare as my classic is my daily.
Jim gauranteed his work and got me back on the road next day.

The communication here is just insane.
I would get calls mid day just to tell me everything is looking good and going smoothly.
I cannot recommend Jim and his crew enough.
Fair , honest , transparent and reasonable time for completed work.

Cost effective, Courteous, professional and extremely great at the work they do! They did awesome getting my project vettes transmission back to life. Highly recommend!!!!!

I've known James for over 30 years! He rebuilt the transmission in my 72 Cutlass over 20 years ago, it now has 330,000 miles on it and shifts like new.
When my 2017 Ford Explorer started to shudder on acceleration I called James. He said if you can get it over this morning I can take a look at it. I dropped it off and he drove me back to work ( about 2 blocks). He told me a fluid change would usually solve the problem.
About 3 hours later he brought the Explorer back with a fresh fluid change and an anti shudder additive. We took a test drive and it was 100% better, like the day I bought it.
I'm bringing in the wife's Jeep Compass next for the same treatment.Thanks for the great job!!!

I have an 08 Wrangler automatic. I try to take care of my Jeep the best that I can considering I’m not a mechanic. When it comes to internal mechanics, such as the engine and transmission, my expertise stops there. That’s when I take it to professionals. Well, my check engine light came on and it threw a transmission related code. I called a few places and received little to no help. Combine that with the attitude of them not really caring about the situation, I was feeling concerned. I was referred to Jim Dowell Transmission and immediately established a rapport with him. Turns out that him and his son both own Wranglers. That made me feel even more comfortable with these guys. While no transaction was made a this time, Jim Dowell Transmission will forever have my business with any vehicle I own. Jim and his son were very professional, courteous and friendly. I highly recommend Jim Dowell for all of your transmission needs! BTW, I collect stickers and put them on my Jeep. You can bet that I have faith in them because their sticker is on my rig!

Excellent Service! I brought my FJ Cruiser to Jim Dowell Transmissions, my FJ is pretty much my child and wanted to take it somewhere who knew what they were doing...and Justin from Jim Dowell took excellent care of my FJ. He was very through, test drove it, checked everything, and even made recommendations. Honestly I was so very impressed with how much knowledge he has on transmissions I felt confident that I was in good hands. I would recommend him and his families shop to anyone. They have been serving Sarasota for decades. Located in great central Sarasota location, clean shop, and professional. Trust me they will take good care of you and excellent care of your vehicle.

I went to Jim Dowells transmission because of the positive reviews and I'm glad I did. James was able to get to my vehicle right away and was honest about pricing and what needed to be done. Hopefully we won't need to use his services that often (no offense!) But when I do I'll be taking my business here.

These guys are phenomenal, I normally do all the work on my own vehicles and am nervous about taking my cars to shops. Communication was great with them, they were incredibly friendly, and know what they are doing, we broke down on our way to visit family in Florida and even though there was a holiday that week, after the holiday they had the transmission in my Hemi Commander out, rebuilt and back in in three days, they even gave us a fantastic price to do the job. I’m normally not one for reviews, and even though we live all the way in NE Ohio, these guys left such an impression for their services I had to leave a review and sport one of their stickers on the back of the Jeep!!! Thanks again for the help when we were stranded!!

A true Gem. Our transmission went out over a weekend. I called the following Monday, had it towed same day and they were done that Wednesday. They were prompt and called me throughout the process to give me updates. When I arrived to pick up our truck I was stunned by not only the organization and cleanliness in their shop but you could tell that the employees really enjoy where they work and who they work for.
