Great informative national park run exhibits. Not a huge place, but a lot more things to look at than you would expect in a grassland. There is also a 25min video, gift shop, and jr. ranger program for the kids.

Helpful staff. Great educational and informative video. We got info and PDF map and went deep into some of the grassland property that's open to public use and found some cool rocks and awesome evening views.

If you are planning on stopping at Wall Drug then you should also stop here especially if you have kids.

They have a junior ranger program and it's super cute. The kids fill out a questionnaire about the grasslands (they find all the answers in the gallery area) and then they are given a badge and "sworn in"

It's great and educational!

The Park Rangers were very knowledgeable about rock hounding and wildlife in the area. They made suggestions as well as they had some items they found in the area they showed us. This helps you know what you can expect to find in those places/what to look for. We appreciated their time and info.!!

The main building is under renovation, so it is currently located in a small trailer on site. The kids still enjoyed the small room of pictures and furs to touch. Nice staff and gift shop area. We had a picnic outside by the flowers.

We stopped by to find that the full visitor center is undergoing renovations but they are operating out of a small trailer in the mean time. rangers inside were super knowledgeable and they had some pretty sweet smokey the bear merch that we purchased.

Ranger Madison was incredibly informative about the region and helpful with recommendations. Go visit her and the displays at the center. You’ll leave much more intelligent than before. Thank you, Ranger Madison.

Really cool visitor center for info about all of America's National Grasslands. Head into here for info on black-footed ferrets, two passport stamps, questions about geology and ecology, or just to have a chat with the rangers.

Great visitors center with enthusiastic staff. They have a junior ranger program and some good information in the displays. Film was interesting. Outside there is a nature walk around the building where some of the native grasses have been planted. Ranger led us on a tour of this part. Fun and educational.

Lots of good information on America's grasslands systems and their importance. It is family friendly (good place for kids) and can be a quick visit. Provides a nice history of the area. The Rangers were knowledgeable and kind. Free admission.

As others have stated this is a hidden gem. I have had extended visits to the Black Hills and missed it in the past. Visited with young kids this time and glad I found it. My daughter really liked earning Jr Ranger pins at other parks and we saw someone with one from here so looked it up. It is not a flashy or huge place, but has interesting exhibits and helpful staff. Much less stressful sensory experience than Wall Drug!

This is an underrated little gem. Part of the Forest Service, the National Grasslands Visitor Center is small but packed with good information. They offer a junior ranger program and plenty of interesting material about life in the plains: wild, native, and early settlers. We were glad we stopped by.

Family of 6, June 20, 2016

I stopped here in 1995 so wanted to bring the family here for our 2016 cross country road trip.

The staff here is amazing and super fantastic. Very eager to interact, great with the kids.

You can get your Passport Stamp for the National Parks Passport here too. Well worth the stop before entering the Badlands.

They have a Junior Ranger Program here too.

This was an unexpected find. The staff here were warm and friendly. Took time to answer all of our questions. The area was clean and well kept. Very nice place for a quick stop on your travels. Plenty of parking , easy to find and disabled accessible. Area is somewhat scenic and they sometimes have activities for younger travels.

The regular office was closed for renos but a temporary mobile office was set up just to the right. The ranger was very helpful and patient.

Even though they are temporarily in a trailer, go see and learn about the black footed ferrets. Knowledgeable, friendly rangers

What an awesome stop, I was on my way to Wall Drug and stopped in to do the Junior Ranger program and stayed for 15 minutes learning from the rangers about cool places to check out in the area. These off the beaten path ranger stations are treasures!!

The ranger lady was extremely knowledgeable and was very happy to be helping us out with directions to where we wanted to go. She taught us a lot about the rocks in the area and where to find them.

Definitely worth a visit if you are coming to Wall. There's a film explaining how and why and what of the national grasslands, a dated 80s exhibit, junior ranger and bathrooms. The rangers are helpful in suggesting places to camp, bike and rock hound in Buffalo Gap National Grassland.
