Stearns Creek Park

As a botany enthusiast, I am so so SO impressed at all of the oak savanna restoration work that has gone on here. Seeing the stumps from the old pine plantations and recent burn scars might upset some of the more botanically ignorant visitors, but this work is hugely important and appears to be turning out great so far. These oak savanna ecosystems used to be widespread throughout Southern Michigan, but today are reduced to fractions of breadcrumbs of their original range. The work done to restore this imperiled ecosystem is so amazing to see, and gives me hope that more work can be done like this especially considering that pretty much all of the present oak forests in this area used to be savannas as well. Trails are well maintained and mapped as well, great for a short hike!

As I walked the trails I thought about your story I had read. I felt as tho I could feel the love your family shared here. I look forward to sharing the park with my Grandchildren ❤❤❤
Oh FYI it's best to wear hiking boots or very sturdy shoes. I can't wait to return

1/4 to 1/2 mile hiking loops, couple of which are through old-growth timber. If people read the billboard they would know that the metal cones and wire boxes were left to show how the family raised foxes as a cash crop. Recent clear cutting by the county have ruined the peaceful beauty of the trails and are only going to promote the regrowth of the flora they tried to remove.

This is a beautiful park with a beautiful history. There are many different ecosystems within the same park which is so interesting. The remnants and history is evident as you walk through the park.

This is a new park and it’s perfect for walking my dog and trail running! Has some picnic tables and benches. Very pretty trails and scenery!
