I approached Mason, with whom I had previously had satisfactory dealings, to assist with reconciling my business accounts in preparation for my 2022 taxes. My experience, this time around, was profoundly disappointing and has compelled me to advise potential clients to reconsider engaging his services.

From the outset, the process was fraught with delays and lack of transparency. Despite an initial estimate of approximately $1,000 and a timeline of about one week, the engagement spiraled into a frustrating ordeal lasting over two months, with little to show for the effort and expenditure.

The sequence of events was as follows: After paying a $1,010 pre-payment on October 10th, Mason's actual time spent on my books was sporadic and insufficient, totaling around 17 hours over more than a month. His requests for further payments, before substantial progress was evident, were particularly disconcerting. Despite my efforts to accommodate and extend trust, the situation culminated in me having to redo my entire books for 2022 and 2023 from scratch due to the unsalvageable state he left them in.

Mason's approach to client communication and project management starkly contrasted with professional standards. Promises were made and not kept, and his insistence on additional payments before completion, despite having already received a significant sum, was both unprofessional and unreasonable. The quality of work was such that no subsequent professional I approached could rectify the disarray without starting anew.

In closing, while I embarked on this engagement with Mason based on past positive experiences, the outcome this time was both costly and distressing. I was left with no choice but to reconstruct my financial records independently, an endeavor that was both time-consuming and entirely avoidable had the promised service been delivered to a professional standard.

I strongly recommend that potential clients exercise caution and perhaps look elsewhere for their accounting needs. The lack of professionalism, transparency, and accountability I experienced does not bode well for a trusting and effective client-service provider relationship.
