This place used to be awesome but since it got new owners it really sucked. My family and I showed up at 1:45 and check in is usually at 2:00 but the lady said our room was ready so we got our keys and went around. The room wasn't clean yet, the beds looked like they had been slept in recently. The hot tub wasn't working and another guest actually fixed it for the owners. One of the windows on the hot tub room was shattered and there was glass all over the floor. When the owners noticed this they didn't do anything to clean it up which was dangerous cause there were small kids staying there. The put-put course is very run down and needed to be cleaned. There were rocks and pine needles all over which made playing difficult. Some of our friends were staying in the room above us and they had no gas and no microwave. They had no way of cooking in their room. When they went to talk to the owners and let them know what was going on the owners didn't seem to care that there were problems with our rooms. Very horrible experience. We wont be staying here again.

We visited the playhouse on a Wednesday evening. It is large and offers a variety of activities. My 5 year old thought it was fun and even wanted to go back the next day. From my perspective, the place is old and clearly isn't generating the revenue necessary for a complete overhaul. It smelled odd and the ancient video games were worn but functional. The roller skating area was big and almost empty. But the worst was the upkeep of the outdoor golf area. It was covered with debris and dog poo. Seriously, lots of dog poo on the grounds and the course.

Service was fairly good, although the owners/managers were no where to be found most of the time. The unit we stayed in was dirty, tile coming off the floor, beds were the absolutely worst I have ever seen (holes in the mattresses). Ceilings were stained and I was really afraid the people above us were going to crash down on us, it was so noisy. Everything about the place was outdated, dirty and trashy. Will never stay here again.

We stayed at the Black Mountain Lodge (Unit 10) over Thanksgiving weekend 2015 and would like to offer a review based on our experience. Summary: We will not stay at this lodge again; we will spend a little extra money to have a few amenities like non-icy steps, a live person available, and prime features of the lodge available for use.
The Pros:
The rates are affordable and slightly lower than most in the area.
The location is conveniently located across the parking lot from the “gold chair” lift (which, incidentally, was the only lift open).
The room was very clean and adequately represented in the photos from the website. Everything worked well except the fan in the bathroom. The linen and comforters were really nice.
The Cons:
No employees were actually present at the lodge and it took a little effort to reach a live person by phone.
The steps around the lodge and leading to the units were very icy and there was no one around to salt or clear them-which I thought was very dangerous. However, there was a sign indicating that the steps were icy. As an owner, I would try to minimize injury by actually removing the ice. But as I mentioned, there were no actual employees present at the lodge-so plan on bringing your own salt and salting them yourself.
BOTH the restaurant and Playhouse that are advertised on the website were CLOSED. This was absolutely the most disappointing part of the stay. The website indicates that hours may vary during the “slow season,” but as first timers we had no idea when that is. Since this was a holiday weekend and the opening weekend for the mountain, we assumed everything would be open. Quite honestly, we would have never booked this lodge had we known these were going to be closed.
The rooms do not have (land-line) phones and the Wi-Fi didn’t work. (The website indicates that the Wi-Fi is slow during the “busy season”-but according to the owner this weekend was considered part of the “slow season”-so not sure why the Wi-Fi didn’t work).

We went to the activity center where there is roller skating rink and I should have listened to my initial instincts and not roller skated. First of all, it was $10, which is ridiculous, considering the rink was tiny, then when I put on the skates , and mind you, I have roller skated since I could walk, I knew they didn't feel right. The skates must be very cheap because they had no ankle support and the rear wheels were at an angle. So weird. Anyway, my daughter decided to skate with me and broke her ankle. She fell, and becasue there was no support in the ankle, she broke her fibula. No one inquired if she was ok, even though we carried her off the floor and out of the building. The medical center was closed, unbelievable! And had to drive to Taos to an urgent care center. Thank god they were open. It was a horrible facility, the music sucked, there was no one to really get help from becasue they were all a bunch of teenagers running the place with no adults. I really should sue them, considering my husband is a lawyer!!! Anyway, beware of the roller skating

We were told that they would stay open till 8pm or 9pm at the playhouse. Not true. Came at 7pm. We had a group of kids disappointed, upset and crying. Will not be coming back.

Thank you for a beautiful evening!😃👍

There was a 10 year old boy vaping and they were passing it around. That were playing bad music with bad language. They are to lazy to change a sign that says they are open. It is not a good place to go and skate and lodge.
