Very old, quaint restaurant across from Hanover Courthouse. Patrick Henry came in for lunch while we were there. Home made "Blue Plate Specials!"

Excellent service and good food for the price. My lunch with two sides was less than $7 including tax. The portion was quite large. Server was very fast and very friendly. The decor is dated, but that actually adds to the charm. Also it is conveniently across from the county government center.

The cafe has been a longtime staple for our family. The food is always excellent and the service pleasant. The prices are just as good as the company. It is a very casual southern type diner. I particularly like the crab cakes and the shrimp when they have it.

Great American/Southern food at very reasonable prices. I've been coming here for years semi-regularly (about 2 or 3 times a month) and have always found both the service and food to be top notch. It's not the Capital Grille or anything, but the food is better than what you get at the typical sit down chain places.

Great service and very kind people!

It has the feeling of a small town restaurant - but everything was made fresh and with love.

It was amazing to find this gem after such a long day at Kings Dominion!

The staff is very friendly, the food was delicious our first time there. We definitely will be back!! The prices were very reasonable , and the size of the servings was a lot more than I expected. My wife and I and a guest that’s 3 meals and beverages was only 29.00 dollars.

Just went for the first time today. Paula was a delight. Hubby ordered the special for today meatloaf and I had the sirloin with onions and gravy. WONDERFUL. The green beans made me want to go see if grandma was in the kitchen. Loved it cant wait to come back!

Seat yourself, a server will be right with you! Phenomenal pricing, adequate breakfast. It all seemed pretty homemade, maybe the hot chocolate came out of a package, but at least they made it with milk, yum. Friendly service, cute store! Can't ask for much more.

Great prices on homemade food. The service is fast and friendly and the owners have recently upgraded the floor and a few other things. Save room for dessert.

On a stormy Sunday evening we pulled into the Hanover Tavern parking lot looking for a nice dinner before continuing North to our home outside of Annapolis, Maryland. Having traveled this route many times we knew the Hanover Tavern was the last place for dinner for many more miles in the distance. When we entered the Tavern we were informed very cordially by Linda that the restaurant had already closed. We thanked Linda and asked if she knew of another restaurant in the area. There wasn’t. Linda, however, asked us to wait a moment. When she returned Linda was accompanied by Mary Catherine (“MC”) the Hanover Tavern Chef. Both asked for us to stay for dinner that it would be no problem to keep the kitchen open. We thanked both for their kind offer but replied we did not want to impose. Linda and MC were adamant that we stay for dinner. We are so happy we did!

The dinner MC prepared was absolutely fabulous. For my wife MC cooked a delicious and buttery salmon accompanied by a grilled squash medley, spoon bread, and herb sauce. Linda served a nice dry, but also buttery, Chardonnay. I ordered the amazing Pork Burgoo. The largest pork chop I have ever seen. The server (Jake) agreed. He called it “Big Boy.” Big Boy is a locally grown in-bone Duroc pork chop. It was served over Kentucky Burgoo (a medley of corn, carrots, celery, and Lima beans), saffron rice, topped with red pepper relish. Delicious!

Although the size of the Big Boy almost put me into a food coma, my wife had room for the peach bread pudding. A wise choice. My wife loves bread pudding but the bread pudding served was the best she ever tasted. It was about three to four inches tall, filled with tasty local peaches, and whip cream on the side. After seeing this desert I had to snap out of my near coma and take a bite...or two...or three. Wonderful.

Throughout the dinner Linda was frequently checking on us to ensure everything was in order and if we needed anything else. She kept my iced tea glass full. I was the driver.

As wonderful as the meal was what impressed us the most was Linda’s, MC’s, and Jake’s kindness and hospitality. We were treated like family.

We frequently make the Richmond to Annapolis trip. A stop at the Hanover Tavern will be a permanent part of our agenda. We unequivocally recommend the historic Hanover Tavern.
