A bit of history and a lot of flavor. This place was great. Staff wad friendly and let us explore, the setting is one of a kind, the atmosphere is fine dining but intimate. The kitchen let us peak in and the food, the food wad fantastic. From scallops to Snapper to the truffle cake I have no complaints besides not being able to finish everything. I'd recommend. The price is exactly what you'd expect and for the slice of history this place provides perhaps even not enough. Great evening. Great food.

Pricey but worth every penny! That's why it's called FINE dining!
Even something I wouldn't eat anywhere else (like brussel sprouts) are amazing here!

It's really like an old house. It's literally a very large home older home.

The food and service were amazing. My employer took us, so it was about 15 or so employees. Very intimate setting. I had the prime rib. They nailed it! There were other selections available that looked just as good. The bread... melt in your mouth good...

It would recommend for private groups' dinner. It did not disappoint.

This reminds me of the Dobin House in Gettysburg PA. The atmosphere is welcoming for any historical lover. They have findings from the original site displayed in the restaurant. The fireplaces give it a very romantic setting as well. The food prices and options are amazing. My husband and I have gone twice now and will definitely return. The service is very nice, quick, and efficient. It's definitely a must go place for history lovers or just lovers that want a nicer night out!

Small, intimate setting. The food was great and friendly staff. The service could have been a little faster when it comes to refilling a glass, but overall definitely an experience. The building is historic, with the kitchen separate from the main building. Very interesting

Outstanding meal and good service in a very historic building. I enjoyed braised beef tips over rice pilaf with steamed green beans (but should have ordered the rack of lamb), and my wife enjoyed Chicken caprese, with a twice baked potato side. Onion soup appetizer and fresh spinach salad with bacon vinaigrette dressing were nice add on. The servers were excellent. We will be back.

Visited for the first time and was very impressed. We ordered the steak / crab cake / twice baked potato and seafood pasta. Both were fabulous and flavorful. Also a big nod to the free cinnamon rolls / rolls, and our complementary apple crispy (due to celebrating our anniversary). Our server Heather was so lovely and attentive. She made us feel celebrated. Will definitely visit again for a special occasion!

While driving back from Georgia to New York, we needed to stop for the night and get some food. We found The Halfway House on Google and while the name of the restaurant was seemingly odd, we read the reviews and made a U-Turn and drove straight there. When we pulled up, it was good to see the parking lot full of cars, as we did not know what to expect… When we went inside and asked to be seated, we were asked if we had a reservation. My Wife explained that we were passing through and the manager seated us right away. The menu was filled with 5 choices of entree’s. We both chose the filet mignon, hers with crabcake and mine with shrimp. The waitstaff was awesome and very attentive. Our food came out exactly they way we ordered it and relatively fast. To say that our meal was near perfect is an understatement… The desert was decadent as well… we truly enjoyed ourselves and plan on visiting again when we travel through VA. Excellent service and superb food! Job well done!

Had a wonderful early Christmas dinner with old friends. This was my first visit and it matched perfectly with what I was hoping. The atmosphere was exactly what I dreamt of-dim candlelit, cosy room overflowing with charm; calm and serene. The service was excellent. Our waiter Brandon was attentive but not obtrusive, professional and knowledgeable.

I ordered the Specials lobster bisque and it was the best I've ever eaten. For my meal I ordered the Filet Mignon with crab cake and it was outstanding; basic food cooked exceptionally and exactly as requested.

Very cool dining experience! Very authentic and real setting, with history. We sat right by the fireplace in the former cellar. Food and wine were also very good. Even the house cabernet was great. Prime rib was very good, charred on outside tender in middle, and they give you a lot of food, more than I was expecting. As an historic dining attraction, it is not cheap obviously - don't go there and think you're going to get a steak for the price of a chain steakhouse. Servers were very professional and friendly. I would eat here once a month if I lived in the area.

FYI - The food is prepared in another kitchen house right next door and is completely covered as it is served. So the reviewer talking about flies, is incorrect.

We went for the first time the other night for a Christmas party and we loved it. You can't beat the atmosphere and ambiance. The food was delicious, from appetizers to dessert. Huge portions of food and everyone brought food home. Nobody left hungry! We got the special roasted red pepper soup and the onion soup to start and highly recommend both! The only downside is that I was wearing a lightweight dress and was freezing inside! But that's to be expected for such an old building. Bring a coat and your appetite here. You won't be sorry. We will be back soon!

We used the upstairs rooms for a retirement celebration on 01/20/2024. The ambience of the upstairs rooms and the history of the building was the perfect setting for our celebration. Working with one of the owners, Sue Young was easy in planning this special event for a party of 34. Sue was easy to work with and most accomodating. The food was excellent, and the wait staff was very attentive and respectful of our guests. This celebration will be a memorable event for many years to come. Thank you to the Youngs and their staff of the Half Way House.

Great place for history and food. It is expensive but worth the experience. Heather was our server and she was so attentive and gave us an overview of the history. Amazing experience. I would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing experience.

We had a candlelit table in the back to ourselves. The food & service were excellent. The gravel parking lot was the only deterent. I wasn't sure what we were walking into, but everything was top-notch once we entered the restaurant. We will be returning.

Great food and I felt like I was in a different era why there, like I traveled back to late 1800s. Prime rib was cooked great, and the potatoes were also very good. The full bar did good with my old fashioned. And the cream brulee was very good. This was a Valentine's Day dinner for my wife and I, and I would go back, maybe not often but I would go there again for a special occasion. Staff was super friendly and made sure our nite when well. The dinning room was nice, a little cold but it is an old building, I would dress a little on the warmer side for sure..

Perfect combination of great food, charming and historic atmosphere, and Southern hospitality.
Try the scallops gratinee.
Ideal before Swift Creek, or as a holiday treat.
Cannot be beat in this area.
We look forward to many returns.

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner here. It was quiet and romantic, candlelit.

Food was excellent: French onion soup, filet, crab cakes and twice-baked potato. The green beans were the best I have ever had anywhere. Their bread, including cinnamon roll, was a surprising treat.

I was only there for desert. I had the apple and ice cream. Very good. I didn't eat any main dishes. This is the opposite of fast food quality and cost. You will spend 50-75 per person for main course. A friend told mw the crab cakes are excellent.

We had a great time. The food was expensive but the meal was delicious. I had rack of Lamb my wife had Filet Minion I also had a delicious local beer (I usually do not like beers)
Also the waitress was great, knowledgeable and gave us great service. The best part of the restaurant is that it was built in the 1760’s as a stage coach stop. George Washington, Jefferson, Grant, and Lee all eat here. We highly recommend this restaurant.
