I enjoy taking my kids here to explore and play in the river. Bring water shoes if you plan on going in. The rocks are very slippery and painful. There are shallow areas for young kids and deeper areas for bigger kids. Yes, there are snakes along with crayfish and other wildlife. We still go in just like many others. Also great place to being dogs for a swim.

There are some great views along this trail; especially near the river. You'll see several large fallen logs, and get to cross a suspension bridge. The terrain is somewhat rough, and there is a decent incline. Get there early on the weekends. The parking lots fill up fast.

Absolutley stunning area! Easy to access, weekend parking is a nightmare though but thats to be expected in the spring and is not the parks fault! So peaceful!

This is a great place to hike and it's only a short drive from downtown Durham. For those who like to fly fish, it's also a nice and easy place to wet wade in the summer, with a variety of pan fish, including the occasional Roanoke bass.

Great place to go out during a cold day and see the frozen parts within. Great trails and there is even a cabin there too. I do not think it is up for anyone to stay but rather, to give you a sense of what it might feel like to be in such. The bridge was cool and the staff there on that day we visited was excellent.

Perfect spot for kids. Parking is easy, trail is wide and takes about 3 minutes to get down to the water. Water is shallow and clear - so refreshing!

It’s been 20 years since I been here. I forgotten how much I loved this place. We went with the family and have an amazing time. We had a picnic near the cabin. Highly recommended for family.

A great place to play in the water when it's hot or to take your kids. I would highly recommend swim shoes, the rocks are slippery and pointy.

wonderful access point to the beautiful state park. dog- and family-friendly watering hole is a short walk from the (limited) parking. nice trail follows the river, where we watched beautiful great blue herons fishing & admired the many native fruit & nut trees.

Great place for families with children to access the river safely and enjoy the water. Nice facilities at the park office close by.

Kids area of the river is close to the parking lot, different depths of water make it easy to have younger and older kids there at the same time. The kids enjoyed it, especially the little waterfalls to the right. I'd recommend a blanket for a picnic, sunscreen, and bug spray (we didn't need bug spray but I could see it being an issue depending on where you are).

Great place to bring the kids or the dog.

Might see some snakes

The water is shallow enough for my kids to play and explore safely. I would wear river shoes or sandals with a good sole because the rocks are pretty painful and difficult to navigate. The area is close enough to the parking lot to make caring a picnic easy, but far enough away to feel like you are deep in the woods. It is a popular spot but not overcrowded. Most people I have encountered there are kind.

Love this park! Awesome beautiful trails almost like you are in the mountains! Some trails are treacherous. Most of them are easily accessible for small children. Love that the water is crystal clear and you can see to the bottom rock bed. A great local place to fish, swim, picnic and hike.
