Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse

I never thought I’d post 2 stars for this place. I suppose most restaurants eventually sacrifice quality for profits. Nothing is the same here except for sushi. Their hibachi now has different rice, different chicken recipe (and so dry), and a completely different portion size. Trust me, the picture does no justice to how much their plates have shrank. When you’re paying almost $20 after taxes for chicken hibachi, you can’t help but to be so disappointed when it’s like this. I took this one personally. I think the owner’s name is Jerry, and I’m calling on him to fix this please!!! My whole family agreed this place isn’t the same. I would never post this, but it’s happened so many times where I’ve had poor food quality. Praying this place gets back to where it was. I have pointed at least a hundred customers in their direction, so please!!

Went here for a birthday party, seemed like there was a lot of those going on. It is a great place for that as you can have a natural and easy conversation about what is taking place in front of you. It wasn’t too loud, but there is enough commotion going on to where you feel free to talk.

As for the food, it was very good!! The hibachi options come with a miso soup to start, followed by a salad with ginger dressing (optional dressings). These came almost immediately after ordering. Then your chef comes out and will put on a show! The hibachi grill food was super good. From the rice to the meats, I enjoyed them all. They also serve you with yumyum sauce and a ginger sauce. We also asked for a “hot sauce” which was a sweet/spicy chili sauce.

The sushi was on point! Probably the best thing I had. The “Rock N Roll” sushi was great! My brother ordered the sushi boat for two and smashed it himself. A little pricey but it was done well.

Overall, a great experience and one that I would definitely recommend! Great spot for a special night like a birthday party. I will be back again!

Tonight, while waiting on the best customer service in town, I watched the owner handle a volatile situation with the utmost class and finesse. An unruly customer overstepped and the manager had all of the class expected of the fine dining establishment he maintains and beyond. I was incredibly impressed with how the young man employeed technique seemingly beyond his years with all of the kindness and authority that this disabled vet wishes we had more of at this point in time in OUR COUNTRY - What a MANAGER! Jerry you did well/I'm impressed!

The chef we had put on a fun demonstration. The food was delicious. The service team kept the drinks full and removed all of the empties promptly.

Food was perfect. Staff was helpful, polite and happy. We came on a Sunday without a reservation so only sat at a table. I plan on returning with a reservation so we could sit at the grilling table.

I've lived in Roanoke for 30+ years and This is the first time we visited Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse and we were pleasantly surprised. The food and service were very good and very well priced.

The variety of patrons was reminiscent of the DMV. Everyone was represented from little babies, to men in suits, old white guys in Bermuda shorts to face tattooed dudes with dreadlocks.

Apparently, I've been missing out and everyone knew but me! We'll certainly be back.

I love Ichiban, it is worlds better than Kabuki. We have been coming here for years and its cheaper too. It will still cost about 20$ a person but its a great experience everytime. Keep in mind Thursday is sushi night so remember to call for a reservation even during the week. The "Volcano" drink is so yummy and fun! The hibachi shrimp is my absolute favorite but I did enjoy the tuna, that being said I am not a raw or undercooked fish person so I did get it well done. I am sure for an ahi-tuna fan they would love it. My friends enjoyed the steak and dumplings. The dumplings were very good from what I tasted and of course their ginger dressing for the salads was so yummy and the soup is always a show stopper!

I had this for dinner last night for the first time. After years of just going to kabuki I’ve been wanting to try this place instead and it did not disappoint! In my personal opionion the food was way better from the salad on it was all so much better. The vegetables here include broccoli as well which is delicious and one of my favorite veggies. Also the portions are bigger here and the prices are way more affordable. 10/10 very good choice! New place to go will be here!

I went here with my whole family, everyone had a blast. We had a master chief crack jokes while cooking amazing food right in front of us. The kids were talking about it for days. We will be back soon!

I was really happy with my lunch! A friend and I went and I had a bento box and they had a few other different things. Everything that we ordered was delicious. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was okay. It was pretty busy and I would definitely love to go back and have more of a feast. It's a very affordable top shelf environment. Can't go wrong!

I LOVE this place but I’m assuming it’s maybe one of the managers, the lady that’s always up front with her hair in a ponytail always, she’s so rude every time I come. I notice that she just always gets rude with people. Not a fan of her but the food and service from most servers, is always awesome!

We have six kids that live with us.... Not ours. A nice break from our serious life and I could not have picked a better place for us. Was acknowledged right away, sat quickly, server was great. Food cooked amazing 🤩 had a great time out for me and hubby😁 A quick getaway from our crazy life. Will be back. We have an anniversary coming up when we took in our nieces and nephews from fostercare. Thinking it might be a definite continder. Nice. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I went to dinner here on a very busy Saturday night. We sat in dining (not hibachi) and within ten minutes had our drink, appetizers, and food. The service was fantastic, with several staff checking on us throughout. Everyone was very friendly. Great experience and would highly recommend!

Amazing birthday celebration. Patient staff, waited for party to gather before seating the reservation. Entertaining. Food was good. Drinks were good.

Enjoyed a Birthday Celebration for my sister in law. The food was delicious which was prepared in front of us by a great chef. The waitress was very nice and competent. Atmosphere was pleasant and a good time was had by All. 🎉🎈🥳

Truly a wonderful experience. All of the staff was extremely professional. Every bit of the food was delicious and it's a very vlean place. We will definitely be going here regularly.

I fell down a well when I was 12. It was a surprisingly tranquil experience sitting in the Luke warm well water. I returned to that moment as I entered the building it was divine. From the moment they threw shrimp at me takes me back to the rope being thrown down to me. This is a special place a rare event to happen in todays time. I felt like a superstar the whole time like Freddie Mercury pre-aids it was amazing. Thank you so much ichiban staff truly. The food is alright as well.
