Rated the #1 public course in the Upstate of South Carolina, which is not a surprise. It's also rated in the top college courses in the country. Designed by Richard K. Weber in the late 1950s and recently had a renovation in 2008. This course has been the home of famous PGA and LPGA players alike. Brad Faxon, Betsy King, Beth Daniel, Dottie Pepper, Joan Delk, and Sherri Turner, to name a few. I truly feel if you can play the Furman course well, you should be able to play well anywhere.
This course is a mix of tight fairways and complex greens. These greens may be the best test of putting in the area. Some drastic movement, but where it digs in, is subtle movement late near the hole locations. There are fantastic bunkers, which are well positioned around the course. It's a great mix of par 3's, 4's, and 5's. This course also calls on a handful of shaping with fades and draws from the tees and fairways. The course is easy to walk and makes for a fantastic time. In my opinion, the 3rd hole may be the toughest and best hole. It requires a medium to short drive and then demands a great approach. The green has a false right side, and anything close to that edge will fall off the green. Putting on this surface will take the most keen of eyes, there's movement everywhere.
I highly recommend this course and make it a must if you're in the upstate!

This is such an underrated course. I'm an alum, so there's some natural bias. But, I've played courses all over the U.S. and a few dozen of the best courses in Scotland, and Furman holds up very well, especially considering its value.

The layout balances forgiveness for inexperienced folks but requires a wide variety of successful shots to score. The fairways and greens are in great shape and the staff are friendly and helpful. It's also a very walkable course (weather depending), which is a forgotten trait stateside and one I appreciate.

If I lived nearby I'd join in a heartbeat, but I always look forward to playing it when I visit. Can't wait to play it again soon.

Great staff! Excellent practice areas. Rangers on the course are friendly. Pro shop folks are friendly. The layout is great, and course conditions are outstanding! My favorite place to play in Greenville. A great walking course and a large number of golfers there walk. I find walking to be more enjoyable and faster than taking a cart. (If the real feel is below 100!) There are easy rolling carts for rent. There is no on course beverage service but the grill folks will bag up ice and drinks. When visitors come to town, this is where we take them.

Super course. Walkable and in terrific condition. Greens roll true and fairways are plush. Can get a little slow but it’s a great place to spend your golfing dollar.

Nice layout. You will need a very good short game. Greens are fast. Lots of bunkers. A favorite of mine in the Upstate. Professional and courteous staff.

Wide fairways, hills that block the flag, and challenging pin placement. Fun course. Great shape for mid-March. Don’t let the $25 green fee fool you. They want $17 more for a cart. I decided to walk which isn’t bad but certainly makes you appreciate the pros who do it 4 times a week.

I am taking lessons from one of the pros - Jon Allen. Within a few minutes he is able to analyze my game and show me what I'm doing wrong. I especially like that he focuses on tips that will help me lower my score when I'm on the course with my friends rather than trying to get me to hit the longest ball or have a technically perfect swing. John works around my schedule and has been a great coach. The Furman course is in very good condition and offers a challenge to golfers of every skill level.

This is what a great golf course looks like. Very walkable with tees and greens close together. Fairways were excellent, but the greens were outstanding. Fast firm and true. If you are looking for glitz, try somewhere else. If you like Pinehurst, this is your golf course. I know Donald Ross didn't design it, but he could have.

What a gem!!! I walked it as it is a great walking course. Majestic tree lined very fair course. It's a good test of golf as the work begins around the greens. I highly recommend.

Nice course. Fast and unforgiving greens. Reasonably priced. It also has some nice woods. I was able to explore them after every drive, sometimes a couple of times after my drive as well.

Best public course in area! Cost a little more but worth it, keeps some of the hackers away! Usually play in less than 4 hours!

Overall, solid experience and good course. The scenery or course isn’t going to “Wow” you but it’s in solid condition, challenging at times but fair.
