We have been taking our vehicles to Ross Automotive for over 18 years. We have moved twice, each time a little further away, yet we continue to bring our cars to Ross. Jimmy and his staff are always friendly and professional. All repairs and maintenance work are thoroughly explained to us. The work is honest and dependable, and we have never felt as though we were being pressured to spend or do more than we wanted or than what was necessary to keep our cars running well. This is an excellent local business.

By far the most organized, clean and professional auto repair shop I've been in.

It's nice to find an honest, quality-conscious, family-owned operation in the Belleville Illinois area that you can trust.

From the minute I called them, I felt like I could trust them, since they were up-front with me with pricing, worst case scenarios, and best case scenarios. Jimmy Ross thoroughly inspects my cars everytime, even during routine oil changes and provides detailed analysis for future needs. He provides a flat price up front and he sticks w/ everything he promised me up front, including pricing. I always experience the BEST service I've ever had in a car repair shop at Ross Automotive.

Most importantly, I trusted Ross Automotive with the most important decision I have every made with a car, the inspection of my daughter's first car, for safety and value.

Ross Automotive is the Best & Only shop I would recommend!!!

It is easy to comment on a business such as Ross Automotive. " Honesty and attention to detail " are two descriptors that come to mind when my wife and I think of Jim and his team. I grew up many years ago in a different era. I have never met any of the Ross team. My wife has always been the contact person for us, and I am very pleased with the report she has given me about her interactions. When we take one of our vehicles in for maintenance, they will always give it a thorough diagnostic and give you a report card of anything they find. The staff is very professional and the work is exceptional. When the bill comes, it is always fair and without any surprises. I do hope they do not decide to retire or change their service. May God continue to bless this special place.

By Chance, when my Water Pump exploded and "Killed" my engine the fall of 2014, the tow driver suggested Jimmy Ross at Ross Automotive. That story is long, however, I'll sum it up by this. That car did NOT die, I am driving it now, and the professional, courteous, and detailed manner in which Jimmy, Larry, and Bob got me through that fiasco made me a customer for life. I now take both my cars to Ross, and proudly display the Ross Automotive sticker on my window. I never trusted dealer work, and could never find mechanics I could trust. I have now. Jimmy and the gang are the best I've ever worked with, and HIGHLY recommend them for all your car needs!

First, let me say that I'm an accountant and a car guy. So, on one hand I'm always looking for a good deal (I've been called cheap, but I prefer "frugal"). On the other hand, I want to properly care for my vehicles. I believe I've found the best of both worlds at Ross Automotive in Belleville.

I think this way not just because their prices are reasonable, but also because you won't pay for things you don't need. Their hourly rate is similar or slightly less than other independent shops in the area and much less than the dealerships. The big savings, however, come from their honesty and integrity. I know enough about cars to know when a mechanic or service manager is full of bologna, is just trying to overcharge me, or sell me things I don't need. I have never, I repeat... NEVER, felt this way about Jimmy, Larry, and Bob. (I have, however, felt that way at other places and have never been back.)

Jimmy ALWAYS calls to tell me what they have found wrong on the car, truck, or van (we have several vehicles) and gives estimates before starting repairs. He often gives me options as well. For example, he has offered to use less expensive parts with only a one-year warranty instead of more expensive parts with a lifetime warranty.

On some items, Jimmy will suggest doing a service if I'm planning on keeping the car long term, but suggests saving the money if I'm going to replace the car in the next year. He once suggested a transmission fluid flush with some special additives after the transmission had been slipping. That ended up fixing the problem and probably saved me thousands of dollars!

I've never felt pressured to have repairs performed and Jimmy gives me a list of the things he recommends along with prices and his thoughts on both the priority and bang for the buck.

When my wife or I pick up our vehicles, there is never a surprise on the invoice because someone at Ross Automotive (usually Jimmy) always calls for approval before doing the work. On the rare occasion they find something else wrong when they get into the repairs, they call a second time to see if I want that fixed as well (and, of course, let me know the cost). I even had Jimmy call once to tell me I did not need to replace my brake rotors as originally expected (along with the hundreds of dollars of other brake work being done at the time). I had already accepted a quote for the repairs and he called me back with an option to save me money -- I've never had a repair shop do that before!

I would also like to say that the folks at Ross Automotive are the only ones I've trusted with my classic car for the last eight years (since I moved to Belleville). They park it inside if they keep it overnight and always take great care of it. Since they have been in the business so long, they actually know how to diagnose and fix problems on older cars. I think other repair shops would be lost without being able to hook a computer up to the car's on-board diagnostics. That's simply not an option for a 1979 Trans Am. But, the good folks at Ross Automotive have had no troubles fixing it every time. They even knew some 'old school' solutions to a particularly annoying electrical problem. I doubt you'll find that at bigger shops with a bunch of technicians fresh out of trade school!

Please understand, though, that the folks at Ross Automotive are well versed in newer vehicles as well. They not only use computer diagnostics, but they also research online repair databases to help them diagnose the most likely cause of problems, search for technical bulletins, and that sort of thing.

I just can't say enough good things about Ross Automotive. You may be surprised at the location and smaller size of this shop, but they do great work at fair prices and, most importantly, are honest people who stand behind their work.

I have been going to Ross Automotive for many years now and will say he has an honest automotive repair business. I like the way Jimmy explains the repair/s needed before he starts fixing my vehicle. I also like the way he inspects the vehicle and gives a priority list of other issues he may sees on the vehicle that may cause you problems down the road or may be a safety issue on the vehicle. I can honestly say I never had a bad experience with his car repair workmanship.

WARNING: AVOID!! DO NOT LET THEM HAVE YOUR VEHICLE! Bringing my car here was a huge mistake and a waste of my time. The owner, Jim, Insisted that a price quote could not be given over the phone and that my vehicle needed to be seen first. At first this made sense but now i see it is the set up for the scam. He told me about his "complimentary" inspection, that even if he didn't get the job he just wants the customer to know what needs to be fixed. After checking the problem, I was pressured to have extra work done that I didn't want, using brands of parts that I didn't want for a price almost double that of other local shops. I had to ask 4 times if he had any brake pads other than the 80$ ones he kept pushing just to get him to stop talking about them. He will be friendly but its evident he didn't care about what I wanted and acted like i didn't know what i was talking about. After I decided not to have them do the repairs I was informed that there was a 75 dollar inspection fee of which was not mentioned at all before. He threatened to call the police and accused me of of theft for not paying him. Plenty of shops do free vehicle inspections, this place is a scam and gives mechanics a bad reputation. I don't care if its 20 degrees outside, i will be doing the work myself instead of paying these scammers.

Let me car sit there over 4 months until I had to have it taken to a different mechanic.one who kept his word,I was originally told he would have it done that day, I called the next week and again told il have it done today or tomorrow. This happened week after week for over 4 months. And its not the 1st time we have been given the run around.if u don't want the job then say it from the start and we would have went else where n saved a waste of 4 months without my car.if they would let me put zero stars i would have
