The 70's vibe in this restaurant is so cool. There's an ambient lounge vibe to the place. The food is amazing. I had the crispy chicken salad, which is similar to a cobb salad. This was really tasty. The ranch is also really good. The martini espressos were STRONG, also.

Vibes are phenomenal, same as service. I’m usually served by Emily and she’s always wonderful. One of the best chicken sandwiches in GR.

The atmosphere is perfect - it’s dark and intimate, with a fun 70s vibe, and good music. There aren’t too many places in town that offer a dark atmosphere with good vibes for date night, this place is ideal. The drinks were strong and food was pretty good. We thought the burger was good, chicken sandwich was better, the fries were ok. The service was amazing. Our wait staff was very responsive and quick to bring out anything we needed and more. All in all the food was ok (there’s better places to get a burger in the area) but we will definitely be back for the atmosphere and vibes (those are unmatched)!

Update: this place is also a great brunch spot! Only comment is the wedge salad is on the small side and may not fill you up for a meal. I’d still get it again though.

Mood times 1000. Will be back for sure. Food was delicious and we should have shared there was so much. We missed the pic of the food. We did the two alcohol free cocktails, meatloaf and fish and chips. All was fantastic, the only thing better was the atmosphere. So glad we stumbled upon it

The location is different because it's on the corner of a large old apartment building set back from the street. It's not where you would expect to find a restaurant. As far as parking you will have to find something along the street. The atmosphere was a little dark, comfortable, and very unique and we liked it. My wife had the meat loaf and I had the goulash, both very good and serving size was almost ridiculously large. I really liked the herb rolls that came with the goulash. I would definitely try it again.

My husband and I tried this place out tonight and loved it. The atmosphere is fun and retro. Cozy and warm. Staff was really nice and food was delicious. Parking was the only downfall. We went early so we were able to find parking but I can assume after 5pm it would be much more difficult. We ordered the skinny fries topped with bleu cheese and garlic along with prime rib sliders. Very good and can’t wait to return and try something new.

I've been going to The Commons for a while now and it's my favorite neighborhood spot. The food and drinks are always spot on, and it's a nice cozy atmosphere. Workers are great and take care of anyone who comes in.

It's a 70's retro diner, with real 70's heart and detail. The seats, the flatware, the decor, the music, even the TV shows they play over the handful of screens is all 70's. There's also some toys and games from the 70's laying around. The vibe here is super chill and fun.

The menu is limited, but fantastic. The food here is great. There's literally one page of things, with a couple a salads, a bunch of apps/shareables, and a few entrees. There's a pretty wide selection of drinks, though. Bar is well stocked.

Service is great, and prices are reasonable. Location is a little strange and parking can be difficult, so be prepared to walk a ways if you come at a busy time. I think this place is one of the best spots in GR.

Update: Another perfect brunch in grandma's basement (affectionately).

I went into brunch with no expectations as I had never heard of this place. But the food was actually excellent and the atmosphere was a mid-century dream. I want to ask them where they got their furniture AND come back again for the breakfast sandwich.

I had never been here before and it was SO good. The food was wonderful, the ranch was some of the best I’ve had, and server A was absolutely hilarious and super charming. I’d definitely go back!!

Stopped here during a short weekend trip to Grand Rapids. I'm glad we did! This turned out to be our favorite spot. Both the food and cocktails were delicious. The whole place has a really cool vintage vibe. Bonus points for the Super Nintendo!

Everything our group got we all enjoyed but felt the red cabbage slaw was missing something. You HAVE to try the portabella sandwich, I always order one when I see it on a menu and The Commons' is by far my favorite that I've had. Street corn Mac and cheese was the group favorite. Wings were "approved" by our wing-only Dieter lol. Considering it was Sunday night and they just opened, the restaurant was crowded but service was still excellent. They have the most comfortable bar I've ever sat at... Think '70's cushioned chairs and cushioned counter edge for comfy elbows. Bartender said after New year's once opening rush dies down they're gonna hold reservations for the lounge areas..they looked straight out of Brady Bunch, 70's games and all, really great place to go before a show or just for cocktails anytime... Speaking of, Cocktails were all great too! I'll for sure be back to try more of their offerings!!

Cute little place with decent food and good service. It was very difficult for me to find. If you're looking at the front of the building, it looks like an apartment building. The restaurant is to the far left, partially up the stairs.

They don't take reservations. We waited almost an hour, but my friend said that's unusual, and it may have been because we had 7.

This place is a complete throwback. It reminds me of a combo of being in my grandmas house and The Regal Beagle - its clean, crazy cool and my burger was flipping amazing! I will definitely be back for dinner and am excited to see what else they've got going on

The 70s style furniture and decor makes this a unique destination to seek out in Grand Rapids. Our waitress had great recommendations and gave us some history about the building. Loved the fireplace. Brunch was also delicious with vegan and vegetarian options.

Amazing service, great food (street corn mac, spin dip, salmon burger) and drinks (Elder pear mule, blame it on the aperol, commons aviator)! Love everything about this place!

I absolutely adore the vibe and themed seating areas.
If I can I always try to sit in the cool living room with the retro video games and TV.
I always order a nice mimosa and the twice baked chicken WINGS.
The sharable tots were also pretty good.
Iv only been here during lunch hours and there not to busy at that time.

The Commons is definitely a must visit. The retro nostalgic atmosphere is a lot of fun and is so different than any place I've been to in GR. So many great decorating touches and little details. The staff was super awesome even on a super busy Saturday night. The menu was short, but had an excellent selection of comfort food which was perfect for this cold winter night. I look forward to going back.

5-Star experience. What a trip. Loved the vibe.
Great selection of beer (Cactus Pear Weisse!), The food was goooooood, it felt like a Party. Great work guys. Thanks for pouring Rockford Brewing!

The Commons is a super swanky joint in the heart of Heritage Hill. A small but delicious menu suits the small but 70s house party-esque atmosphere. Everything about the place screams old school: wood paneling, classic cocktails, low lighting, even mismatched dishes your grandma had. The menu features classic bar staples but with a modernized, spruced up twist.
Check out The Commons for an experience that is unlike any other in GR!
