This is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! Every single dish and side we had was incredible. Highly recommend!

Hands down the best brisket I’ve tried locally. The brisket melts in your mouth because it’s so tender and juicy. The beans are thick with the perfect sweet taste. And who doesn’t love Mac and cheese with bacon!

I had the brisket, salt potatoes, and the baked beans, my partner had the two hand pulled pork sandwich, and the bacon mac and cheese and also the salt potatoes; hands down it was the best BBQ we’ve had in NY in ages!!

We pulled up at 4pm and beat the dinner rush, the service was awesome and our food was out to us within 10 mins (they were clearly ramping up for the dinner rush, as told by the near nonstop pre-order calls they took kept rolling in).

Definitely worth the drive. We’d driven past a bunch of times on our way back to Syracuse from a Rochester roadtrip, this time decided to pull a U turn and see what’s up. Super glad we did, and we’re definitely coming back and bringing our friends and family.

Yes, the food was worth to drive from the west side of Rochester to the salt box. It was worth every mile I give the food to five star specially those chicken wings.

Ordered to go on our way through town. Food was amazing!! My husband is obsessed with BBQ and he gave there brisket a 10/10. Very clean place with the cleanest public bathroom I have ever used! Highly recommend.

We took our takeout meal to a sunset view since Covid-19 restrictions still apply here. The smells were too tempting and we devoured half our meal before we remembered to take pictures for this review.

We had wanted to sample the wings and corn salad but they were out of these (we were very late on a Saturday evening so that's understandable). So we enjoyed the Brisket with Carolina sauce, the cheddar kielbasa, and sides of tender cornbread, chilly dilly beans, freshly made coleslaw and gently spiced salt potatoes. Everything was prepared to perfection. The brisket was so tender, tasty and melted in my mouth. Not too fatty either. The sides were the "usual" but different in a fresh new fun way- I wished I'd ordered two of each so we wouldn't have to share! Lol.

Close to where we spend our summers on Sodus Bay I'm hoping that the friendly people at this new-to-us eatery recognize us as regulars this summer. I think there will be a second location on the other side of the Bay too, very convenient.

My only suggestions- have crackers or some frozen thing to microwave quickly for the gluten free carb substitute. Many times we pay an up charge for some large bun we didn't want anyway but we need something so consider researching a good organic muffin, cracker or other bun substitute that fits the theme and doesn't cost too much. Have an actual gluten free person sample it first so you know it's okay. Also, I'd love to see a smoked turkey or portabella for my vegetarian friends or perhaps pulled chicken barbecue too.

I do not day this lightly, they served the best ribs and best coleslaw I have eaten in my entire life. Had the St. Louis Ribs, wife got BLT with in-house smoked bacon. Fantastic local gem, you owe it to yourself to try it.

When ever I am in town visiting I will always make sure to stop in here from now on. I had their bbq at a catered get together and l was not disappointed by coming here and eating in house! The horseradish garlic cream sauce is AMAZING! Its nice to have a beer with it and they have some tasty choices on tap for you to pair it perfectly with whatever you choose.

First time I have ever seen the place, so stopped in after hiking and tried the double knuckle pulled pork sandwich. Tasted great, and had great people working the front desk, will definitely go back

This place is great! The pulled pork “knuckle sandwich and dilly beans” were awesome and the house made bbq sauces we loaded on were the perfect compliment. They said the pulled pork was smoked for 16 hrs, so good! Definitely worth stopping.

Super friendly people behind the counter selling delicious smoked meats.
I drive up from Ithaca to check out their bacon and their pastrami is God-Tier delicious. It's like beef jerky.
Yeah, it's on the pricier side, but I usually stand by places so long as the price makes up for it in flavor. It absolutely does here.

We found this place on a whim and the food was just fantastic. I had the turkey BLT and I don't think I hang ever had more flavorful or juicy turkey in my life. The bacon was just a delicious and cooked perfectly. The bacon Mac and cheese was devoured by my kid and my husband really enjoyed the smokiness of the meatball sandwich. I'm all for the road trip to go back out there and stock up on turkey and bacon!

The smell of smoking meat drifts through the parking lot upon entering. Mmmmm. The entrance is a very nice, concrete ramp with railings on both sides. Easily handicap accessible inside and out. I had the Brisket philly with peppers onions and mushrooms, So Delicious!!! We will definitely be back, often! Check out their website. They cater too! I highly recommend The Saltbox Smokehouse! Located a few yards off State Rt 104 on Barcley rd. between Wolcott and Sodus. YOU NEED TO STOP IN!

My wife and I stopped here to check the place out. The Saltbox Smokehouse turned out to be wonderful! The staff was very friendly, the dining area was comfortable and clean and having the option to sit outside was great. We both had "Burnt ends sandwiches" (beef brisket), it was amazing! Smokey, flavorful and tender with equally outstanding side dishes. They also offer local brewed beers and ciders! Oh, did I mention they also sell smoked bacon, cheeses and other tasty items to bring home? We look forward to our next visit!
