Nino Schembri Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

I’ve been coming here since 2010 when Nino was originally in Manhattan Beach. And I’ve found that this academy has the best BJJ in the South Bay. They have an awesome kids Brazilian jiu jitsu program as well. I love this place and I’m glad I came back to it; Nino will always welcome you as family.

I had the pleasure of training with professor Nino this week. It was an awesome experience, getting to learn from one of the best bjj practitioners ever. The facility was neat and clean, the training partners were very friendly and welcoming and overall a very positive training atmosphere. I recommend everyone living or visiting South Bay, California to drop in for Professor Nino’s bjj or Yoga class.

I've been going to Nino's for about 7 months now. This place is incredible. From my first day, everyone was very nice and welcoming. After a couple weeks I felt like I was part of the family. There's a real sense of family and team at this gym. Everyone really wants each other to succeed.

Training with Nino Schembri at his academy has been one of the best experiences of my life. Having trained here for several years now, I have seen the academy grow from only a handful of students to a large group of very experienced jiu jitsu practitioners. The classes are superb and the techniques are simple, yet very effective. Nino is a very laid back, which keeps a nice relaxed, family atmosphere in the gym, and he lets you progress at your own pace. The other students in the class are very respectful and I have made many close friends over the years. Also, thanks to Ben Kim and all the other high-ranking students who have helped my jiu jitsu improve over the years.

I lost 50 pounds going here after I graduated from college. This is a awesome place to train, the coaching is top notch and they really care about the students and their goals. Like the other review says they are family friendly, and offer multiple classes. I highly recommend nino's place. His passion for his sport shines through everything he does as he interacts with his students. Try the yoga it is an excellent add on to any other martial art or strength training program. The best Jiu Jitsu instructors, coaches that push you to be better.

I just moved to the South Bay in March 2014 from Tokyo, Japan and Bangkok, Thailand where I was living/training where I found Nino Schembri Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu & Muay Thai School. It was a bit of luck that I found this place because I happened to just be driving by it and recognized Nino's name from his PRIDE fighting days and decided to come in and try it out. I am really glad that I did because I started with the Muay-Thai class that is taught by Professor Ben Kim, and then started BJJ with Master Nino. I am loving the atmosphere and training environment because of the great teachers and good students. People here are eager to learn, have no attitudes, and everyone help's each other out to get better. I have not only found a place to train, but found a new family as well.

I did a lot of research on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in the South Bay before landing in Nino Schembri's Academy and I'm glad I did—the instruction is first rate and the academy is full of genuinely nice people. Professor Nino really cares about his students perfecting the art and has the patience to keep students from ever feeling overwhelmed. Same goes for Professor Ben, who teaches the beginner's class as well as Muay Thai kickboxing. Whether you're looking for high-level training or just getting started, this academy will take your game to the next level and you're sure to make some friends along the way.

Been training at Professor Nino's since 2009. Nino obviously has world class jiu-jitsu and is a legend in the sport, but he is also a super nice guy and really humble. Despite being known for his flashy moves, what I love about the instruction is the focus on basics and something you can only learn by feeling ...crushing top pressure that I think is Nino's real specialty, anyone who trains with him will tell you the same. Ben is Nino's second black belt (the first is Shogun Rua) and teaches a lot of the beginner's classes, he is a testament to this style of jiu-jitsu and also a great guy.

Nino also has an eagle eye for pointing out details/mistakes, so anytime he pulls you aside to tell you something make sure to listen and work on it because it will change your game. Nino and his wife own the gym so they are 100% invested. Nino is almost always there for every class which isn't always the case when you have this high level an instructor.

Lots of brown and purple belts, a few really great black belts, so lots of people to help out the beginners and answer any questions. Great group of guys and a great team!

Nino is hands down the most decorated BJJ Black Belt teaching in the Los Angles area. Many other high level BJJ players stop in with get roll with Nino. Guy is a legend. And we love the kids BJJ classes there.

The Muay Thai Kickboxing classes are really good too.

Nino's academy is truly 5 stars. His students and instructors were all welcoming and accommodating. The location was clean, the instructions were clear, and I look forward to stopping by every time i'm in LA!

First time training outside of my home gym in PNW..happened to be staying at a motel in LA nearby Nino facility. Walked down just to check it out, no intention on rolling,. One thing led to another and found myself rolling with Nino, didn't expect that..thanks Nino..

Ill be coming back every time I'm in LA. Respectful gym, students have a high level JJ, and Nino is a fun approachable guy.

I have been training here for 8 years. Everyone here is very friendly and willing to help each other. Nino of course is a master at his art and the training from all the coaches is top notch.

Great gym with an awesome environment and amazing people. If you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with one of the best in the history of the sport this is the right place. They have kids program, Muay Thai classes and Yoga as well!

Amazing place for adults/children. They are great with kids. My daughter who is 10 Years old has learned so much in a couple of months. Number # 1 place for BJJ.
