What a lovely experience. The host was very friendly. She is an exceptional baker and cook. We came here with no expectations and were blown away by the beautiful home and the food. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you for sharing your space with us ❤

My husband and I spent 3 nights in the Library Suite for our one year wedding anniversary. We were floored by the historical beauty and detail that was not only in our room, but all throughout the house. The coffee in the morning and the baked goods were one of our favorite parts, but the morning spread all 3 mornings were delicious and prepared with love. The room was cozy and very comfortable! We LOVED the stained glass that was scattered all throughout the house. All in all, this was such a pleasant experience and Michelle was a wonderful host. Thank you for everything!

We stayed here while celebrating our anniversary and it was wonderful! Lovely home and delicious breakfast -- with another anniversary-celebrating couple! Old houses need a lot of work, so folks should expect there may always be a "project" going on, but our room was cozy and comfortable. We'd definitely visit again!

This is an amazing place to stay! I stayed here for a work project in town. The rooms have what you need and the owners are very friendly. Bed was comfortable and clean. The house is beautiful and filled with incredible history. I encourage anyone staying in dubuque to consider this over a hotel.

We stayed at Richard's House B & B for 1 night and loved it! The owners gave us a tour of the house (built in the late 1800s) and gave us our choice of rooms since we were the only people there at the time. The whole house is a historical masterpiece and the rooms are amazing, with many historical details. Breakfast the following morning was delicious, as well as the cakes and cookies provided to guests as snacks. The outside of the house is under repair at the moment, but don't let it discourage you from visiting. We will definitely be returning!

Beautiful interior takes you to another Era.
The exterior is being improved so there is scaffolding set up around the house. I will love seeing it when it is completed. But the interior is well worth viewing. Located close to downtown. There are many wonderful eating establishments close. Breakfast is served in the morning. Fresh coffee. The best coffee cake and blueberry muffins as a starter. A small bowl of cantaloupe, waffles, French toast, and an egg dish are available. Special dietary restrictions are taken into consideration. Let the hostess know.
We stayed 2 nights and slept in a different room each night to broaden our experience. Even though it was an August summer, the interior was kept very comfortable. The many fireplaces are in working condition. Would love to come back in the winter and sit by the fireplace.
Price is very reasonable. Especially when you are served a feast for breakfast.
This destination comes highly recommended!

Wonderful historical home. Rooms are done very well. Loads of collections. They are working on the outside but inside is outstanding. Hosts Michelle and David do wonderful job. The breakfast was wonderful 😋

My family stayed in Private Room A otherwise know as the Blue Rooms A & B.
The room was exceptionally clean, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms themselves were just stunningly beautiful! The original stained glass in our room and throughout the house was stunning. Looking at all the antiques and old original books in the home give it so much charm. It was fascinating to hear what the house was like at the time of purchase and all the many renovations that have been done and continue to go on as I write this. Breakfast was absolutely delightful and wonderful in every way. The pastries, cookies, muffins, etc., were a wonderful treat after driving five hours in blizzard conditions. I can't say enough nice things about this house, the comfort of our stay, or the absolute outstanding hospitality we received. We can't wait to go back for a longer stay next time!

While the exterior may seem somewhat rundown at a glance, the quality of everything in this bed and breakfast vastly makes up for it. We were in the library suite, which was somehow both homey and elegant. The stained glass, original mantles, large open area, and abundance of books all made for an amazing stay and wonderful vibe that had us not wanting to leave our room. The hostess was incredibly welcoming, and our breakfast was bountiful and delicious. Amazing price for such a unique and charming experience.

Wow! This place is a real gem. Michele is such a sweetheart and provided the best of service. The rooms were clean. Beds were super comfy (let’s just say my husband knocked out in five min ha). The breakfast was really good and was surprised by the set up they had for us.

Overall great place to stay, and we definitely love supporting locally owned business.

Stayed here for valentine’s day weekend and it was lovely! Don’t be deceived by the state of the exterior, because the interior is BEAUTIFUL and very charming and clean! We rented the Library Suite, which is just off the main entrance on the first floor. It’s a spacious room with a fireplace, claw-foot bathtub, private half-bath, and a super comfy queen bed. The breakfast in the morning was ample and delicious! Would definitely consider staying here in the future.

The Richard's House is a diamond in the rough. The outside of the house looks like it's under renovation but the inside is truly remarkable. House built in th3 1800s, has stained glass windows, and felt like we shared a part of history. Booked 2 rooms and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean. The room we stayed at had a club foot tub. The stay also provides snacks and drinks. Thr best part was the home-cooked breakfast! The couple/ owner, Dave and Michelle, were both sweet and kind. We highly recommend the Richard's House. We would definitely return and stay longer next time.

We stayed there just for one night and loved it. They are renovating the exterior of the house but the interior is stunning. The owner gave us a tour of the ground floor, it was interesting, plus plenty of nice details everywhere, nice antique furniture. There is free cookies, soda, coffee and the breakfast was delicious.

My mobility got more limited than I expected and I found safe haven here. I was early for check-in and was nervous to come but was released from my anxiety by the welcome and kindness by the female owner and worker whom I distracted in my near emotional disress. Breakfast was super fun with a delicious assortment that fit my plan to leave full and happy. The house is fun to see. Highlights were the fireplaces and artwork. I loved the dragons and glass work immensely.

Every detail in this house is absolutely stunning. Don't let the exterior remodeling deter you. The nicest woman greeted us at the door, showed us around the house, and we were even able to change our room to one of the suites with no notice. The bed was comfy, the linens were clean, and the breakfast was outstanding! My only regret is that we weren't able to finish it all. Hotels can't compare.

Our room had a fireplace, and the bathroom had a claw foot tub. The house is amazing. The outside looks a little rough, old houses take a lot of work, but the inside is drop-dead gorgeous. The food was wonderful. Downtown Dubuque is magical, and this B & B is part of that magic. We will be back for sure.

What a beautiful, historic house! Such great hospitality by the hosts, upscale hot breakfast and snacks, sodas and wine are complimentary all the time. The rooms are spacious, bathrooms are modern and elegant. Take the informal your when you get in to fully appreciate the grandeur of Richards House. Walkable to restaurants, brewpubs and historical sites. No wonder it's in the top 25 best B&B's in USA!

This historic house is undergoing extensive restoration to the exterior but the inside is amazing. The husband and wife who run and own it are extremely hospitable and accommodating.

When we arrived we were treated to a guided tour of the first and second floors where the guests stay, including unoccupied rooms. It is beautifully furnished with period pieces, and retains most of the original stained glass and woodwork. At the same time, all the modern conveniences are also present.

Homemade cakes were left for the guests to enjoy, and guests are free to avail themselves of a great selection of teas and cocoas, as well as coffee; wine and sodas were also provided in a refrigerator accessible to the guests. Breakfast was five stars, made from scratch, creative, and inspiring.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this Bed and Breakfast and hope to have the opportunity to stay there again.
