Los Angeles Maritime Museum Reviews

This maritime museum was a fabulous hidden treat to come across. Time well spent on a Sunday afternoon, most days they are open 12pm-5pm. There are two levels and an outside deck to sit and take in the view. Many model ships from different eras and countries. Lots of interesting facts are shared along with items and equipment from ships. Displays lots of great historical photos of old San Pedro. There are clean modern restrooms for patrons. Only five dollars for adults! It’s a donation based museum and it’s well worth the five bucks. Go visit and support this local maritime museum which holds much of the harbor’s history from the early 1900s! So fascinating!

My family and I enjoyed a nice afternoon exploring the Los Angeles Maritime Museum in San Pedro California. Lots of history here , there are tons of cool model ships on display . Also a really cool kids exhibit . Definitely check it out if you’re in the Los Angeles area looking to check out some of the history.

It's a nice little museum with free entry but a requested $5 donation to visit, I went in at 4:20, and the last entry was at 4:30 and we still made it out by 5. There's nearby street parking for free.

This museum is awesome if you like all things nautical. They have exhibits on the history of the Navy, fishing industry, canning industry, and more. It also has some cool views of the harbor. They run on donations and they recommend a $5 donation for entry which I happily paid. It is also located in close proximity to the USS Iowa museum. Great value for the price and highly recommend it 👍

The museum offers a kids section. It’s all the way up on the ramp.
The activities include a great variety of; from nautical books to dress up to spelling your name with two flags.
We liked it so much that we are planning to visit again.

If you're into maritime history and want to know more about the evolution of the San Pedro waterfront area, this is for you. Also of interest to anyone who likes ship models, there are dozens of them on display, from small 1 foot hobbiest versions, to builders models. Also, the 20 ft long movie prop ship from the Posieden Adventure. There's a lot of info on the local fishing industry, old photos, and even bunks and mess tables from the nuclear submarine USS Los Angeles, and the wheelhouse from the WWIl cruiser of the same name. Since it's right across the street from the Crowne Plaza hotel used by cruise ship passengers, it's a nice way to spend an hour if you come in a day early.

Splendid museum encompassing a wealth of knowledge surrounding marine life, history of the port, and pure craftsmanship and mastery of ships/boats. Admissions is FREE but donations are appreciated. While there, we met and spoke with Scotty, the volunteer pictured in the marine radio command center photo. She provided us an in-depth explanation and demonstration of live marine radio traffic which was astounding!
Overall, the museum and surrounding port areas were neatly kept, filled with things to see, and activities to partake in. Worth the trip!

It’s a small museum but still offers interesting history of the LA port. Parking is free and there’s a $5 donation you can give when entering. You can donate cash or use your card to donate in the gift shop. Museum is self tour. There are lots of boat models to see.

I can't believe a museum of this caliber is just a suggested donation. I was blown away by the exhibit on the Terminal Islanders. It was so well done and imactful for such a small space. The sections on canning, the history of the building, and the kids area were also impressive. I would definitely go back as it seems they are continuing to make updates to exhibits

Kids can play dress up at the museum, pretend to be crews/captain of the ship and learn semaphores

Renovations of surrounding area just finished. Really a terrific area with lots to see and do. There is the American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial next to the Maritime Museum, which is adjacent to a number of docks with ships and boats of every description.

This is a smaller museum filled with ship models from different eras and industries. It also has historical images of the early days of the area, tools used by fishermen and sailors, and more.
They have a dedicated section for naval ships, including large detailed models of modern and WW2 era ships. It was under renovation when we visited so not all are displayed properly. You can find parts of USS Los Angeles (CA-135) inside & outside the museum.
There's a small dock outside with public access where you can relax and maybe find some adorable seals sleeping nearby.
The $5 entrance fee is worth it for visitors of all ages.

Small museum with lots of things. You need to be fully vaccinated to go in. You can park off the street. It’s take a couple hours to go through everything. Museum is free but you can donate to there. All the models that they have make lots of joy for kids.

Very educational! You will get one nice view of LA Harbor by going out the back doors. Benches for seating are very comfortable.

Have lived in LA most of my life and this was the first time visiting. What a great place to explore. They have lots of cool models of ships and a whole section just for kids to play and explore. The location on the LA Waterfront with views of the USA Iowa and the port complex really help tie the exhibits to our current reality. Definitely an awesome place to take kids and a great place for adults to check out too.

This museum has a lot of knot art which is very interesting. Also had multiple small boats that all had fascinating histories. I was there with the San Salvador which was being hosted by the L.A. Museum and we took groups out on day sails and charters.
