Charlie's Cafe

This is one of my favorite breakfast places! We had family in from out of town and met for breakfast/lunch - a party of 8. We were seated right away and served quickly. Half the group all ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Holy cow! They looked amazing! Huge! Everyone was very happy! Can’t wait to go back and try it myself. I ordered Eggs Benedict and wasn’t disappointed. Everything is so good and the kitschy decor is fun to look at while waiting for your food.

Great spot often overlooked. We had no wait though it was fairly crowded. My chilquiles were fabulous, and my sweetie's biscuits & gravy were too big for him to finish. I had two bloody marys and they were good & spicy, served with a delicious piece of crispy bacon and sweet pickle slices - good to the last drop! Great little place for breakfast & lunch.

I've eaten here three times now. The last time wast planned but the sushi place next door wasnt open for lunch. We arrived close to closing time but never felt rushed or put off. I ordered the pepper jack burger with sweet potato fries and every bite was spectacular. I was sad when my plate empty! My daughter had their fish and chips. It looked perfect! A golden fried outside, perfectly flakey fish. She did comment that the batter could've used some flavor to it. We will definitely remember to return more often!

I've been eating at this place a little after I moved up here and it's my favorite breakfast place. The corned beef hash is excellent and you can tell that they actually make the corned beef themselves. As a vegetarian, my Wife loves this place as well for breakfast. Her favorites are the pecan waffle or oatmeal pancakes. Prices are very fair as well with great service.

Great restaurant. I came for breakfast. Friendly staff, roomy, quick service, relaxed atmosphere with a solid menu. And frequent coffee refills. The fella in the corner makes sure we all behave - without saying a word.

Added bacon to the veggie scramble and it was phenomenal.

This was a great way to start the day.

My family loves Charlie's Cafe. We have breakfast here 1-2 times a month. Their sourdough pancakes and homemade sausage are fantastic. The staff is always friendly and keeps your coffee cup full.

Always great food and great people. Grass valley staple.

We come here when my kids come to town. They were looking forward to the Lobster Benedict which is not available anymore. 🙁 All in all, we love going here.

The service was deplorable.
I asked for crispy, crispy, crispy hash browns.
They came 'normal'.
Reminded the waitress that I asked for crispy.
She said 'that is the way we fix them."
I told her I had eaten here before and got them crispy.
She repeated "that is how we fix them".
I asked her to take the potatos away and leave the eggs (so I could eat with my guest.)
She took the entire plate.
There's more but basically I finally got potatoes not nearly crispy and she spoiled what could have been a great breakfast.

Great down-home cooking. Great service. Only once did we ever have to seat ourselves-we noticed a couple of new faces and probably not caught up with the operations yet. Normally seated fairly quickly. Weekends you might have to sit at the counter, but hey that's fun, too!

Lots of atmosphere, good service, fun things posted on the walls related to gold rush times.
We only had breakfast, so can't comment on other food.

We were told that Charlie’s had great breakfast, and it’s the truth. They have the best corned beef hash I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot! I love that it’s mixed with hash browns and not home fries. My sweetheart had a bacon waffle, and it was delicious. Servers were friendly, helpful and efficient.

This place was a fantastic find when we passed through here on a road trip. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful. I especially liked the chicken fried steak with a slightly sweet crispy exterior. Will stop here again next time for sure.

Ate here this morning and the waitress and the food was excellent. Pancakes, eggs, sausages and correctly made hash brown potatoes were spot on! The place is definitely of the old world tradition and clean too. My breakfast was the Charlie's Special for $5.99 ....... An incredibly low price for what you get and everything on the plate was cooked perfectly. I'll be going there again tomorrow. Just visiting my son and I'm here from Long Island, NY and really enjoy good food while enjoying a nice atmosphere too. I would recommend trying this place hands down.

Great pancakes and waffles! Best for breakfast and brunch! Easy to find and parking across the street, there was no wait time at all and my group of 5 and i were seated immediately. Food was delish

What a great little old time cafe! Been several times, and will return a ton more. Classic breakfast and lunch menus. Can get in and out quick, or take your time and enjoy, service always seems to adjust to accommodate.

Absolutely had the best breakfast - thick cut bacon, perfectly scrambled eggs, delicious hash browns and amazing pancakes. Throw in a yummy cup of coffee and delightful servers, and it's a beautiful day!!
