Marina Peninsula Trail Head

The Marina Peninsula Trail Head is a beautiful area to enjoy an easy walk with gorgeous views. The trail is very easy and is dog friendly. Parking is available at the entrance of the trail. The marina is so beautiful. The campground and golf course are nearby. The Morro Bay shopping area and many excellent restaurants are also close to the area.

A hidden gem to view wildlife & views of Morro rock, marina, the bay, & more. A peaceful accessible stroll with a few benches. Please pick up your dog's feeces. There is a bike rack to lock up your bike.

The Marina Loop Trail is excellent for birding. Extreme high tides bring estuary birds, such as Savannah Sparrow into the brush and pickle weed that is close to the boardwalk. Due to the tide covering the wet sand shorebirds are easier to see. They tend to hang out in mixed flocks. It is not unusual to see a flock of Avocets, and a flock of Caspian Tern, hanging out with Willets, Godwits, and Whimbrels. From the Boardwalk hundreds of Brant Goose can be seen and heard. In the pickle weed Great-blue Heron, Greater Egret, and Lesser Egret feed. Osprey often fly over the area.

During the winter season Yellow-crowned Night Heron may be seen resting in the Eucalyptus or on the aft of a moored boat. In the brush are White-Crowned Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow, Bewick’s, Wren Bushtit, Blue-grey Gnatcatcher.

Usually, close to the boardwalk Say’s Phoebe can be seen perched on a post. Black Phoebe is always seen. As the tide ebbs, a Spotted Sandpiper appears bobbing along the edge of the receding water.

Unlike most of the State Park trails, the marina trail allows dogs as long as they are leashed and stay on the trail.

Fun, quick lil trail! Kids enjoyed the super easy path and the mini stops to just sit back and take in the scenery and read a few fun facts about the area.

0.7 mile walk on dirt and boardwalk. Easy walk with benches to sit and rest it observe the wildlife and enjoy the views.

Perfect trail for a easy and peaceful walk and birds watching. After a walk eat delicious lunch at Bayside cafe.

Fun little trail near Morro Bay State Park campground. It’s flat, wheelchair accessible, and winds around the marina.

Dog friendly- leash. Beautiful views. Lots of birds and other wildlife seasonally. Well maintained.
