Our company has been with McSwain & Company for well over 15 years and they have been invaluable as a resource when it comes to the complex accounting and tax area. Even though they are a large company, my CPA, treats our account with extreme care and makes us feel like family! I was recommended to go here for David Stocks services and have used him for my taxes the last two years. Last year was simple and got done, however I did have issues with communication between him. Unfortunately, throughout last year I was receiving several letters from the IRS stating I was being looked at, requested to send certain documents and that I owed several thousands dollars. I was living out of state as I am a travel nurse and literally took me until I was BACK in Washington state and physically in his office to reach him and address this issue. Turns out the taxes were done incorrectly, though was simply fixed and issue was laid. I’m not sure why I continued even a second tax year with him, but I guess I was thinking the previous year was a fluke. I had some questions though weren’t urgent so I sent an email, has not been answered in 2 weeks, had sent a second email, no answer. I also made a phone call, he was out of office then didn’t return my call, until today finally reaching him on the phone! I then proceeded to ask my questions which he either argued why I was even asking or verbally saying “you’re killing me” “it doesn’t matter”. When one of the questions was if I could get another print out of my return since he bluntly put my wrong occupation in my tax forms. I feel like that’s not to difficult to ask? And it’s not the correct job I held. It would be nice to be explained when/how things are going to happen but with him, there’s zero explanations and attitude if you ask. I should of went with my gut after the first year, but now after this phone call I definitely will NOT be going back next year.

McSwain and company has done a good job for us for many years. However, in the last two years it has gone down hill fast. The receptionist has always had a bad attitude but I have over looked that. The last two or three years the top people have left the firm or retired. I have been on hold now for 18 minutes waiting for my accountant, David Stock to see why he hasn't responded to my last call about he not filing my 2021 business return with DOR. When I quit holding, 23 minutes now I will find a new accountant. Very unprofessional!

I started using his group on a recommendation from a friend who had used Neil. He was not the tax preparer we ended up with but were contacted by an amazing gentlemen named Billy. He is absolutely wonderful.
This year however, I am just horrified at our experience. Billy has left the company, however we, as clients were never informed. We had emailed 3 different occasions, with no answer, which was highly unusual for Billy. Upon reaching the Lacey office, we were told that our CPA no longer worked for the company. When we asked why we were not informed, the answer was, “I don’t know”. We were told they were monitoring emails of their former employee, yet told us our particular emails were never received, and probably went to their junk mail. One person there David was actually quite rude and condescending to my husband when he was trying to find out what was happening with our current tax preparation. Additionally, I had to call and provide information three times last year to get our tax preparers fee paid. Not sure why that was so difficult, but that was extremely frustrating considering we were so happy with the gentleman who we have had for the past few years.
I absolutely would never recommend this firm at any of their locations due to these experiences. Perhaps the highly unprofessional and rude demeanor of the staff in the office is why the gentleman who prepared our taxes is no longer there.
Exceptionally unprofessional staff for such a large company, and I wish I could give lower than one star.
Bad form on them

I got involved with this company through a friend's suggestion to use Neil, who was fantastic in every way! Unfortunately Neil is no longer with us. Since then it has been extremely difficult to work with this Company. They don't return calls in a timely manner, or respond in any other way. The work that was done for me was inaccurate, and to get it corrected was a battle. I even had issues with the billing department. I paid my bill on time, but it was posted in the wrong spot.
After I called them to let them know that it was paid, they wanted me to do the legwork to find out what went wrong. This firm likes to charge like a first class firm, but their quality is poor.

Worst experience ever. I used an independent preparer that was amazing but mcswain bought him out. Unfortunately since day one wit was nothing but problems. A year later I am still trying to fix their mistakes and catch up. As a small business, I rely on a professional to do these service properly. Very unresponsive. Multiple phone calls, emails and messages. Even trying to talk to their “manager” got me nowhere. Eventually when questioned if they were doing things improperly, communication ceased. Please, do yourself and find a independent preparer that can handle things properly and values you as a customer.

I worked with an independent tax preparer who, toward the end of her career, joined up with McSwain & Company. She recently retired and I've been dealing with the McSwain & Company office in Lacey. They're overpriced, non-responsive, and unprofessional...in my opinion.

By far the worst experience we have ever had filing our taxes. We worked with David and have had multiple problems with him. It started with him incorrectly inputting information with our taxes, never responding to emails or voicemails and using excuses for why he didn’t communicate with us. He then had issues with the IRS kicking back our taxes because my name was spelled wrong, which is ridiculous. A simple extra two minutes to look over a clients form before submitting could have resolved this problem. We paid almost $400 for his service and should have had our taxes by now, but because of all the problems we’ve had we are still waiting. We will not be returning next year.

All around, extremely rude and incompetent.

They own Genie payroll was cheated and taken advantage of!

I have used this company for years. I dropped my taxes off several weeks before the due date didn't hear back from them for 3 weeks. They charged me 3 times as much for the most simple tax return. I've ever brought into them total fraud.
