Tomodachi Park (Laguna de Santa Rosa Wetlands Preserve)

This simple grove of tall oaks sits beside a stream that will flood into the higher picnic area when the Laguna fills in the rainy season. In the spring the shaded meadow bursts into color as some delicate form of wild daisy blooms into a cheerful yellow carpet kissed by occasional whisps of white, making for a fairytale romantic atmosphere, with calander-worthy photo opportunities.
And as the Laguna groundwaters recede & the terrain becomes treadfast, the park becomes complete with picnic tables, BBQs and trash cans for the spring & summer months.
But as every rose has its thorns, this picturesque dreamscape has its limitations & drawbacks: Parking (although always available) requires accessing a trailer park and is limited to one short row of parallel parked cars. There is no public restroom offered, and the closest one you'll find is probably in the Barlow. The creek is toxic, and should never be accessed by people, their children, or their thirsty dogs looking to drink from it! And speaking of dogs, beware of ticks if the grasses are tall and yet unmowed.
All the same, when this place transforms from a flooded mud-stricken mess to it's glorious floral storybook splendor, it's a true Sebastopol gem! And surprisingly, it remains untapped & lonely as most would-be outdoor enthusiast visitors pass it by for the Laguna trails just a few seconds' drive further east on hwy 12.
