Wow! This place is amazing! It felt like every bite was better than the next! Every detail was thought out and the chefs were incredible in how they made and presented each dish. Chef Naohiro was friendly and we enjoyed learning about the details of the dishes. The flavors were exquisite. The service was impeccable- it’s byob and the service staff were always ready to refill your drinks. This was one of the best meals of my life. I can’t wait to go back!

Hard to put into words just how wonderful the omakase experience at Sakana was. Every course a surprising and tasty bite. Cannot be overstated how much this is a step up from "normal" sushi, the chef was preparing things I didn't even know existed, but are now my favorite fish to eat. Exemplary.

Definitely the best omakase in Philly!! Quaint bar setting BYOB! Right up close great sushi masters. No special occasion just decided to have sushi with my son. Every course was outstanding! Flavors were amazing. I love seeing the reactions of the other patrons as the eat the courses! Will definitely be back many time hopefully. Well worth the drive great neighborhood ample parking. Beware of the non descript building.
At $158 you will be very satisfied with every bite. The ala carte menu has some great add ins priced accordingly 20-38$. They offer hot and cold tea as well as a few soft drinks and water.

Such a delightful experience and the food was spectacular. This was my first time trying omakase in Philly and was a little nervous since I was going by myself but they were so nice and our chef Nao was so engaging and talented it was a treat of an experience. It’s a million times worth it.

This place is very modern and simple. It has ambient music playing in the background and feels like you are at a spa. It was very peaceful.

The food was fantastic! I loved everything. Don’t be hoping for anything specific though. I had read about wagyu and an Umj bowl but we didn’t have either of those. But if you love amazing nigiri you will like everything. Best sushi i have ever had!

The waitresses were amazing and didn't let our drinks sit empty. They were so nice!

It was my first omakase experience and i had read they would ask us about what we like and tell us more about the food. They didn’t talk to us at all besides the name of each course. Im sure i could have asked more questions but the chef didn't really offer. Not a big deal. Maybe thats normal but other reviews mentioned that more.

A little piece of Japan in Philly.

Every part of the omakase gets better and tastier as the dinner progresses. I enjoyed watching the Chef prepare the food in front of me, and he was a pleasure to speak with.

The whole experience just brought me back to Japan all over again

ありがとうございます !

OMG! Food was amazing and never had a taste of good sushi until me and my family ate there. Our chef was amazing and skilled at what he does and very helpful with whatever curious question we have in how he did prep work before having us taste the food. My sister brought her baby and they were very accommodating to the baby and parents. I and my family will definitely be back.

Literally the best meal I’ve had in my entire life. I’m not joking. A complete 10/10. I had my doubts coming in but it was worth absolutely every penny and then some. I’d come back again in a heart beat. One of the sushi chefs was a little bit quiet/not interactive but honestly they’re both artists and I’m so pleased with how good the meal is. Fresh fish flown in from Japan every day.

Personally, I think it is the best Omakase I’ve had in Philly. From the appetizers to the dessert, every dish is amazing. The whole experience is very good, each piece carefully prepared by the chef and has its unique taste. My favorite is the Monster Wagyu Uni, very satisfying! I will definitely bring my friends and family back to eat again.

This was my first Omakase experience ever and Sakana set a very high bar! The entire meal was a delight! Each bite was a journey of its own and the chefs were so engaged and informative making it an experience beyond any expectations I had! The whole experience took just under 2 hours from start to finish and the food was out of this world. The complimentary flavors created an almost out of body experience and intense euphoria.

My wife and I came here for her birthday and had an amazing time. One of the best omakase sushi dinner's I've had with a deliberate focus on nigiri. I actually only took photos of the starter plates because I became lost in the experience, lol! Did not have a plate that missed. Definitely give them a try if you're in town!

Simple and elegant interior, excellent selection of fresh fish well prepared, courteous and attentive service, and good discussions about the menu and life with the chef. Everything I could want in an omakase. Worth the price. I will be back for sure.

Sakana was my first omakase experience, and well it's at the bar very high. When we arrived we were greeted by two hostesses that immediately sat us and we were promptly greeted by the omakase chefs. The restaurant was clean and modern with very nice touches of an elegant sushi bar. If you've ever been to omakase it's basically a chef's tasting menu for high end sushi and Japanese Fair. The chefs were very accommodating to our groups, dietary restrictions and allergies. The omakase we got was over 25 pieces of sushi mixed in with a couple of other items and dessert. When I tell you every bite that you took kept you longing for the next and the next I am not underestimating. It was an absolutely phenomenal experience that the chefs took to explain to us how and why the ingredients they put together worked so well and the rarity and quality of some of the ingredients they use. They also explain to us that most of the fish that we were going to be eating that night was flown in from Japan, specifically Hokkaido. Overall 10 out of 10 phenomenal experience. Highly recommend anybody that's going to appreciate something like this.

This place deserves more hype!

A unique and fresh selection of fish and perfectly seasoned rice at reasonable omakase prices. Would never have expected to find such high quality sushi in Philly.

**This is written after their 2021 renovation and reopening.

Best value omakase in town. No nonsense.
Chef Lin put a lot of thoughts on how he processes the fish. He coordinates the seasoning, food pairing and ingredient quality very well. Chef Lin also takes pride of the food he prepares. He cares about the fish cut, season, source and processing. I had a great conversation with him.

The staff was friendly. There was a fine line between being responsive and showing a strong presence. Or maybe the good food elevated my expectations too high

Fairly new place so the price is pretty cheap (58 for standard Imamate) but don’t let that fool you! Head chef worked for years at Masa in ny (3 Michelin stars), and has taken his passion and experience over to a brand new concept in Philly.

What makes this store a bit different and special is that they specialize in aged fish, something most sushi places don’t do since that requires very specific knowledge. It adds a sweeter more complex flavor to the fish, and if you’ve never tried it before it’s definitely worth a visit, especially at this price point!

Omakase is my favorite way to enjoy sushi and I have experienced it at numerous places in many cities. Sakana makes for an absolutely amazing and authentic omakase experience. Their renovation is gorgeous and perfects the experience. The chefs are extremely skillful, the quality of the fish is superb, the rice is amazing (super key!) and the BYO is a super nice touch. Great customer service - the servers are so kind and the chefs interact with the guests in such a nice way.

We ordered 138 menu, include 1 appetizer 3 kitchen food 14 nigiri or sashimi 1 uni bowls and 1 dessert. Best omakase ever at this price. Definitely worth a try.

Definitely one of the best Omakase I have ever had. Their uni bowl is brilliantly orchestrated with so many levels of flavors exploding in the mouth. Aged toro was also fabulously done with a rich texture and amazing taste. Their yuzu sauce is wonderful too! Although I do wish they could use yuzu in between the fish more often, since it really balances out the amount of fat from the fish. But that's just me nitpicking. Thank you for the fantastic meal really!

An exceptional experience. We have had omakase in a few places and generally love sushi. This place is another level. They gave me the best single bite of my entire life, the double toro which was an aged bluefin tuna belly. I never had a bite of food like that. And the staff were so nice and gave us a lot of information and background throughout the meal. I almost don't want to leave this review because now it will be harder to get a seat there! But everyone should experience this beautiful place. Thanks to Sakana for a perfect meal.
