We first visited Strawberry Mansion to enjoy a Victorian Christmas music concert. The interior is filled with historic antique furniture and toys upstairs. This is the biggest of the Fairmount Park mansions, and was built in 1789. The owner in 1828 added two Greek revival style wings. The mansion is beautifully landscaped, featuring an arbor, cultivated gardens and a big grassy, treed backyard. There's also an active apiary. The grounds and garden are free to stroll during the day. Some guided public tours are offered each year. There is free parking leading up to the mansion. It's a popular mansion to rent for private events, especially weddings.

I would recommend that you go to this museum. They have old fashioned dolls, painted portraits, fancy dishes, a tour guider that was friendly, and small gifts that you can buy before you leave.

Historic Strawberry Mansion was the summer home of Philadelphia judge, lawyer, and abolitionist William Lewis (1751-1819). Lewis maintained an anti-slavery stance throughout his life, and defended the rights of slaves freed under the first abolition law in the United States, a law he helped draft and pass in the year 1780 called the Act For The Gradual Abolition of Slavery.

What a beautiful spot to see an outdoor play! We caught Indecorous Theatre's Sep 2021 performance of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It was hilarious!!

Ty was an absolutely fantastic tour guide. I learned so many fascinating facts about the importance of this house to US and Philadelphia history. Ty could answer any question we threw at him from how is the house heated now (geothermal apparently) to whether Greek independence inspired the Greek revival architecture in some of the rooms.

Mr friend and I recently enjoyed the best historic house tour I've ever taken at Strawberry mansion. Ty, who led the tour, was amazing. His knowledge of the house and its contents is encyclopedic--and we tested him. 😄 He was patient with all our questions and charmingly enthusiastic about the house and its history. Highly recommended.

I attended a meeting outside on their beautiful patio overlooking the gorgeous garden. It was wonderful and optimistically my organization will utilize their facility again. I hope to return myself and take a tour of this beautiful historical home.

The mansion is beautiful!

There is a little hidden garden off to the side you can sit in. The grounds are great to walk around on.
Josh was giving tours today. He loves to talk about the history of the house and Philadelphia.

It was a pretty special visit there. Thank you!

Beautiful old Historic Strawberry Mansion was a “summer home” in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA. Built between 1783 and 1789 by Judge William Lewis. Lewis was a State Representative of Pennsylvania and was involved in the drafting and passage of An Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery in 1780. This legislation was the first legal action towards the abolition of slavery in the United States of America.

Learning about Philadelphia culture in this beautiful historical mansion is a great family fun time. We learned about the Schuylkill river being a source of revenue to fund the freedom of slaves. So many facts to explore!! #ForeverMansion #PhiladelphiaCulture #JudgeLewis
