one of the best areas for easy hiking in true Pennsylvania wilderness. The old growth hemlock and all the rhododendrons around the trail is something nearly spiritual to walk through. One of the best in the area and dare I say the state.

One of my favorite forested areas near State College. The 390 acre Alan Seeger Natural Area was founded in 1921 and was named after the poet Alan Seeger. Lots of Hemlock, White Pine and Rhododendron grace the landscape as you hike the trails.
Highly recommended!

A beautiful place to spend a few hours. Deep in the mountains is Alan Seeger with it's 118 acres of old growth Hemlocks. It's a dark lush area with Detweiler Run and Standing Stone Creek passing through creating a fairy tail-like setting. It's never crowded and always well maintained. I try and visit at least every other year.

My family would go to Alan Seeger for picnics in my youth and to fish for Brook trout.
In the 1970's we took my maternal grandparents, uncle and his family from the U.K. for a picnic there and my aunt wouldn't get out of the car because we saw a nice sized Rattlesnake on the way there and then a few miles after that my father saw a Black snake, stoped the car and caught it.
She said "The entire bloody country is covered in snakes"!😁😂
Fifty years ago there was still lots of old growth forest alive but sadly an invasive beatle has killed many of the huge Hemlock trees that would amaze me as a child.
The rhododendron was so thick that I could go through parts of the forest and never touch the ground for what felt like miles as a child.
Sadly another area losing it's beauty because of.....

We enjoyed the Alan Seeger trail as a family. Doable for adults, children, and a toddler with assistance. Mostly level, with a few foot bridges.

Very beautiful! We went on the short hike. There were gorgeous towering trees, a tunnel of rhododendrons, and 3 bridges. Wonderful as a short family hike or for forest bathing.

Been coming to this park since I was a child and it amazes me every time. It is literally a breath of fresh air walking through these woods. There is a very nice trail that is a few miles long as well.

Very nice. Short hike on the trail takes you through the old growth trees and bridges over crystal clear creeks.

Very quiet.

Amazing little secret and so close to State College and Penn State. (Less than 30 min drive) the hikes are beautiful and the parking is easy. A family could easily make this a fun day trip.

We've been coming here for years, always peaceful, great place any time of the year. Perfect place to bring young ones and starting hikers. Nice wide trail, change of view from tall forest canopy to low covered rhododendrons and several stream crossing.

This is a very old hemlock grove with a nice trail through rhododendrons. During the early summer you are surrounded by the red blossoms. This trail connects into other trails in the area to explore more of the Rothrock State Forest.

Allen Seeger Natural Area is a great place to picnic, hike, play in the stream. There is a nice walk through an old hemlock forest, which if you time right around the 4th of July you will walk through a tunnel of Rhododendron flowers, there are wooden bridges crossing small streams and places for kids to play along the stream. You can park here and take longer trails around Rothrock State Forest.

Though the 500 year old hemlock has fallen, there are still a ton of gorgeous trees upwards of 200 years old. Such a gorgeous forest. I can't wait to visit again🤩🤩🤩
