In an Easter sermon the pastor used the "n" word multiple times to an audience of mixed-race attendees (some Black). On a separate occasion an adult disabled individual walking the room with his father was asked to leave the room mid-sermon while an uncomfortable back-and-forth ensued. The pastor can be dismissive and flaky. Scheduled items on the calendar moved (1particular event moved multiple times over nearly a year-span), and meetings canceled seemingly based on Tom's convenience. The attendees seem humble and approachable. During one sermon the pastor stated in contrast, "Some of you I've seen too many times this week" (laughed).The pastor also ridiculed a congregant who was organizing a bike ride, saying to the room something to the effect of if that guy could bike the route anyone could. Working with the children in the other room I had the pastor's dad walk into the room and ask if we could hear music. Upon listening closely we could hear distant music. This man walked next door to tell the person off. There is a weekly prayer time prior to the church service. The children in the next room have often been hushed while this prayer is going on, even when not being obnoxiously loud. I found it ironic that prayer for the ministry of the church coincided with attempts to limit the children's ministry. Consider a different church.
