Our first visit to this park was on one of the hottest summer days. Even first thing in the morning the humidity was brutal. We parked in one of the first main lots so we plan to return to explore other trails as there is a lot to see. The area we hiked was mostly grass trails and was fairly easy. Perfect for beginners or or if you’re out for a more casual walk. There are plenty of walking paths to enjoy. We claimed the many steps to the lookout. The views are very pretty, you can see fairly far out over the park. I was able to see other areas that we plan to check out when we return. We walked past a playground picnic areas and everyone seemed to be having fun despite the heat. If you have small children I recommend a visit. I look forward to returning in the fall!

The bird observation platform is my favorite part. Nice scenic trail by the creek. Not too crowed and dog friendly. Plenty of benches and out coves to take a break. Excellent restroom facilities. There are bulletin broads with maps and information. Even a water fountain (hydration station). Friendly and knowledgeable staff too.

This has been on my bucket list for years. This did not disappoint. Jane Austin once said.....“To sit in the shade on a fine day, and look upon verdure, is the most perfect refreshment.”

I would suggest as a tip to use the bathrooms near parking lot 3 and 4 and then drive up to parking lot 5. Parking was not busy by 1 pm at all which I was surprised about. The best parking lot is 5. It is next to the observation deck. You can a great view of all the hawks and cool animals. Once you are done, I would go down the hill to then get access to about 10 miles of varied trails and woods. Green Ribbon Trail is also an access point of great vision that I cannot begin to tell you. I felt like my attention span could stand all the hills and valleys. This was so clean. The water was nice. I would suggest getting there early during the heat and just exploring for the whole day. I feel like I had to stop because it was getting dark. But this made 2023 chefs kiss.

Went on a group camping trip here at the beginning of June we only stayed one night but still had such a blast 🤠 The camping is up a private road I'm not sure how many group camping spots we're at the first one ans I didn't walk up to see the others. Down the hill are the bathrooms hawk lookout and parking lot down the hill from the hawk lookout there are a couple different trails and if you continue to the bottom of the hill it takes you right to the river. There are so many different and fun things to do we had a great time it's a great place for a day trip or overnight I definitely recommend checking out this state park some time this summer

This beautiful park 🌳 is almost 500 acres and is located in Montgomery township Pennsylvania not far from Bucks County. The parks offers open space, picnic 🧺 areas, hiking 🥾 running 🏃🏾‍♀ and walking 🚶‍♂ areas as well as camping 🏕 areas. There are beautiful trees, flowers and birds 🦢 🌺 🌲 throughout. There is an observation deck as well and the park borders the scenic Wissahickon Creek. There are park rangers available as well as public bathrooms 🚽.

Nice hike on varying surfaces. You can choose to stay on fairly level trails or plunge into the woods. The Wissahickon offer babbling water and a cooler area even on a densely hot day. Other areas of the park have pavilions and picnic areas but we were there to hike the trail today.

Fort Washington State Park is a multi-sectional park connected by county park lands allowing for the continuous hiking of the Green Ribbon Preserve Trail. You'll also see signs saying the Wissahickon Trail as it follows the Wissahickon Creek. The park combines recreational activities with areas of historical significance.
The Fort Hill section is across from the park office. While the fort is gone, a section of field is surrounded by cut and stacked trees suggesting a typical defense for the troops.
Also near the office is the Clifton House which was built in 1801. It is now a library and museum run by the Fort Washington Historical Society. On the way to the main park, you'll find Mather's Mill built in 1820. This is currently under private ownership.
The Militia Mill area is the largest and most varied. Walking and picnicking are the major activities, but many visitors come for the hawk watch decks especially in September and October.
Picnic tables are plentiful and scattered around the play areas and ballfields. There are two pavilions here for larger groups.
The park has a large number of dogwoods. I've included of picture of some by the volleyball court.
The disc golf course appears well designed and challenging.
There is a camping area but only for groups.
Fishing the Wissahickon can get you trout in spring but only warm water fish as you get into summer.
In winter you can cross country ski and sled.
The Flourtown Area features a ballfield with lots of picnic tables and a volleyball court, but currently the net is missing.
Behind the ballfield you'll see a sign indicating a wetland project is under way (see picture). Behind the volleyball court is a group pavilion. Keep in mind this is a long distance from the parking lot to have to carry supplies.

Wide open spaces! Lots of green! Friendly people with dogs! Disc golf! The fresh Pennsylvania air! Bugs! Free parking! Wide bucolic views! A great place to have a picnic! People tend to be happier when they spend more time outside! This would be a great place to do that.

We visited both the Flourtown and Militia Hill sections of the park on a fall weekend with our leashed dog. For Flourtown, we met a deer while strolling the short loop trail along a narrow section of the Wissahickon Creek. At Militia Hill, the Hawk Watching deck was very popular since migration season is winding down. If you head down the sledding hill, you reach a wide paved trail that overlooks the Wissahickon. There are full restrooms, picnic tables and multiple parking areas. This is a historic area where General Washington built a temporary fort, before heading to Valley Forge. There a few ruins and historic Clifton house, which sometimes is open to the public.

Fall is the most magical experience in this park! As soon as you pull in, the foliage is just the perfect backdrop for autumn maternity and family photos. There is lots of space to run and explore. We even saw some beautiful wildlife.

This place is pretty great. Paved trails, or you can go off the path. We spotted enough wildlife to make the kids happy. The little creek is awesome for letting the little ones wade for a bit.

Afficianados of hidden away railroad viaducts will love it. Love cally quarried stone was used to build this 1/3 mile long viaduct. Estimated to be 80 to 100 years old. Quite a unique system on it by attaching heavy gage galvanized steel corrugated panels as reinforcement.

What a nice park. Trails to walk or bike on, but they were not marked so it was sometimes hard to figure out where you were. Nice recreational facilities, camping.

Small state park with migratory bird watchtower and long running volunteer hawk watch program. Mixed use day hiker trails which connect to the Wissahickon Greenway. Several shelters with grills for day use with green space, volleyball and proximate parking. There is also an 18+ hole frisbee disc golf course.
We hiked a 4ish mile loop trail that led is back past what appeared to be campsites that were no longer open. Small portions of the park visible from the main parking area sustained a direct hit from tornadoes during hurricane Ida with considerable damage to tree stands.

I’ve been coming to this park for years. It’s gigantic, extremely peaceful, the people that come here are always polite, there’s grills everywhere if you want to have a cook out, and there’s a valley ball net and a playground if you have kids.

I've been here a number of times (visited for the first time since 2019 the other day), and what I really love is the guaranteed bird watching! You can count on seeing some cardinals and blue jays just about every time from the viewing deck! I personally find the trails to be short, yet they are still enjoyable.
