I am a general and family dentist in Harrison. When we need to refer our patients to an oral surgeon, we have a lot of choices.
We are always very careful whom we recommend - because we care about how our patients are treated.
There are dozens of oral surgeons in our area, but we always recommend Dr. Shuster's practice. We've been referring to him for well over 10 years. Every patient we've referred to him came back with glowing reviews. We know we can always rely on him to see our patients quickly if it's an emergency, and his work is excellent.

The fact that we've been recommending him for 10+ years speaks for itself.

Dr. Shuster is an amazing oral surgeon. I went to a couple of oral surgeons and he was so professional. State of the art technology. Knew the problem immediately even before any X-rays.

I went today to take out my wisdom teeth out and Dr.Shuster was amazing.. he made me feel completely comfortable.. and he even checked up on me after.. Absolutely amazing. I would recommend him to everyone.

My husband went in to have a tooth extracted and received excellent patient care. Dr. Schuster even called to check on him that evening. We will be back for more dental work.

Dr Shuster is a very good surgeon. He knows his job , great personality and cares for his patients.

This is a letter I sent to Dr. Harvey L Shuster DDS,

Dr. Shuster, This letter is extremely overdue. On April 12, 2012, you extracted my daughter’s wisdom teeth. Her name is Amanda Zappier and she is now 33 years old. I know her name means nothing to you and I don’t expect you to remember her after 13 years!

What you did Dr. Shuster, was destroy her life. You prescribed (in total) 60 oxycodone pills FOR EXTRACTING WISDOM TEETH! See attached prescription print out. From April 12 to May 4, 2012, you prescribed 60 opioids in total. Advil would have been sufficient!

What you did was get her addicted to opioids, which resulted in 10 ½ years of struggling with drug abuse. She started with your prescription then heroin, then Crack, Meth, cocaine and GHB. She is currently incarcerated for one year and I am the sole caretaker of my 15-month old granddaughter!

She has a history a mile long which includes detoxes, rehabs, inpatient facilities around the map, countless hospital ER visits by ambulances, half-way homes, the list goes on! I had to Narcan her three times.

My husband and I have spent over $200,000 on my daughter’s sobriety because of your negligence!

He's a very nice man, but the whole experience was unpleasant and unprofessional. The office accepted my appointment and said they took my insurance. It turns out that insurance only partially covers it. I would've chosen to go somewhere that it was fully covered. I made an appointment in the morning so I could head to work afterwards. I waited for an hour and a half before he even arrived at the office for the day. When he did arrive, he chatted with a different patient for approximately 30 minutes about his old neighborhood before coming into the room where I was waiting for so long. I won't be going back. I wasn't able to get to work that day.

While I thought he was a very nice man, personable and knowledgeable I felt taken advantage of financially at this office. I had a root canal that was infected and my dentist was on vacation so I was referred to Dr. Schuster. He explained what could be the issue and took an x-ray, he said he could not see anything and ordered his assistant to take a 3D x-ray - I'm not a dentist so I did not know any better that this was completely unnecessary. He suggested that I go back to the endodontist who did the root canal and have her take a look. Upon leaving his office, the front desk told me that the office visit and x-ray was covered but NOT the 3D x-ray and that I owed his office $375!!! WHAT?! I asked why I was not informed of this charge given the fact that they knew my coverage when I walked in the door and knew this was not a covered service. The receptionist said nothing, looked at me and said "I can do $240" to which I replied I cannot. She then said OK $150 - so HOW did we get from $375 to $150? Probably because the x-ray doesn't cost anywhere near what he is charging his patients. I then went back to the SPECIALIST who took a regular x-ray (the one that was covered) and told me what needed to happen from there. Honestly, I understand maybe he doesn't specialize in root canals but he could have been honest and said that rather than robbing money from me. I e-mailed his office explaining all of this and demanded a refund...crickets....
