Papa's American Cafe

One of my favorite restaurants! Everything I’ve ever had here was amazing! Sadly they are closing September 9th, 2023. However, they are combining with Prime N Wine next door.

We enjoy both dining in and getting carry out here. I appreciate that the menu has gluten free items clearly marked. Their gluten free hamburger buns are top notch!

Note: If you are gluten intolerant/sensitive and order a burger with a salad you will need to specifically specify "no croutons" on your salad, and if getting a gluten free kids hamburger/ cheeseburger meal, specify "no cookie".

Despite a lunch rush our service was great.
The food was fabulous and not rushed to make and sloppily put together. I would definitely recommend everyone tey this place!!

Went there for Father's Day so Dad could watch sports during lunch. The waitress was super friendly and attentive to customers needs. The tenderloin sandwich is the BEST I have ever had. Dad said the steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. They also had several local beer options. Will definitely stop in again when passing through Mason City.

Nice local sports bar. Good food with large selection. Iowa beer on tap. Dogs are allowed in patio.

Over the years I have had virtually every burger and they are all good, but the constant has always been a cup of their black bean soup. That stuff is fantastic! Now I want some.....

Ordered wings and pizza. Wings were appetizer . They were delivered to the table when the pizza was.
Wings- drummies and flats. Nice wing sauce, drummies were large which is good. Ok Blu cheese dressing, celery was crisp and fresh.

Food and staff was great as usual! So many different items to choose from, the whole family will be happy!

Working out of town for a month. This was are 3-4 nights a week, supper spot. Excellent food, wide variety for a menu. Very well managed time for your orders as well. The wait staff being the best part! Our personal favorite, maddy. Deserves 10 stars! Miss that kind of hospitality and service. Highly recommend!

5 stars for our service. Our waitress was attentive and extremely friendly. Our food was served to us a in reasonable time frame and our drinks were always full. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and was pleasantly surprised to receive bright green leaf lettuce and diced grilled chicken- exactly the way I like it. Most places offer ripped iceberg lettuce with large chunks of chicken. Menu selection is more sports bar than cafe but either way we'll return again.

Had a great first experience at Papa's. Staff was very friendly, service was good . They have a great menu. Our food was very good. The wait was normal. If you are into sports they have a big screen as well as several other TV's. We will definitely stop in again on our way back to MN. An outdoor patio is also available.

Food was awesome! Service was great, even with a full restaurant! Atmosphere was fine! The restaurant could have been a little warmer, but other than that it was great!

My favorite soups are the chicken and mushroom on Tuesday and the clam chowder on Friday. Beautiful white sauce in both. Wonderful service.
Also, they are very professional about masks, sanitation and social distancing the tables.
Visit their bathrooms and they are spotless. A rule I have is if the bathrooms are clean, the the kitchen will be clean --- it's the same attitude. I feel very comfortable eating there during this pandemic.
Every dish I have tried has been great.

Decided to give Papa’s a try with my partner to celebrate getting a new job. We both ordered different margaritas, which were delicious and not badly priced for the size/alcohol content. The portions of both of our meals were huge! (I got a Chicken Greek salad, he got a ‘Papa’ burger) Wait staff was attentive but not too overbearing. This is a great local restaurant that we will definitely be visiting again

Food was amazing! No kidding that was pure heaven when I bit in the burger. I'm gonna go back as often as I can. Service was excellent right there taking care of out table the entire time. If you haven't been there do yourself a favor and check them out.

Great food and great service. Food was out quick and waitress was on top of everything. Will definitely go back again.

Our family stopped at Papa's for lunch today a little after 1pm. Glad to see they are staying busy but still had plenty of room. All of us enjoyed our meal and had great service as normal. Stop in for a meal at this local restaurant. Average prices with large portions.

Tonight (August 16th) we went to Papa's. At first the experience was awful, we had sat there for 25 minutes and watched others get served who came in after us. So we got up to leave but I wanted to speak to a manager to hopefully get something done about the waitress who was supposed to be there. They ended up giving us an incredible night, we had been customers for 18 years and it was almost ruined by one bad waitress. To the ladies who made our anniversary night a better experience, thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you!!! Because of the ladies who turned our night around, we will still be coming back to the place we love, and because of them is why Papa's deserves a five star rating!!!!

Our food was great and so was our waitress. But while we were eating there was 4 waitresses sitting around the bar swearing and talking about who can twerk..And the bar tender was ok with all of this. We came to eat not watch a waitress twerk..where was the manager. These waitresses need to be more professional.

My husband and I had a great time and enjoyed a very good meal. My husband has told our waiter that he thinks this is the best Philly steak sandwich he has ever had. I have enjoyed every meal I have had their before in my three times going. The Long Island teas were much better than a lot of places we have had them before as well. Brandon was our waiter tonight and he was excellent. Brandon also said he was moving on to another job, too bad you could not find a way to keep him. He knows what true customer service is.
