The Hancock House Bed and Breakfast Inn

Beautiful Room with a gorgeous view of the city of Dubuque, the bluffs and the Mississippi river! The house is truly a Victorian gem for the city of Dubuque situated on a hillside above the city with its wonderful rooms, stair case, dinning room and wrap-around porch.

The Dollhouse room we stayed in was quaint, charming and quiet and had a jacuzzi situated in the round windows. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom very nice. Our host and owner of the property Simon was very cordial and welcoming, and gave us loads of information about the city and where to visit. The breakfast the next morning was very tasty and perfectly prepared and Simon gave us a history of the home during the meal.

This was our first time staying in a Bed and Breakfast, and I was a little nervous about it thinking it might be a "Bill Murray and Groundhog Day" experience for us, but I can tell you it wasn't...it was wonderful!...and I highly recommend you staying at the Hancock House when you visit the Dubuque area.

We had a wonderful fall getaway to Dubuque and Galena this week and stayed at the Hancock House in the Doll Room and Ball Room. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The house is clean and decorated with beautiful antiques. Simon was an attentive host. The street parking is easy and the view is amazing. Thank you, Simon. (FYI—we were the couple that showed you our paintings we purchased at an antique store during our stay). We look forward to returning again soon!

Simon was a fantastic host, the house was immaculate and gorgeous. The breakfasts prepared were delicious and filling. The location is perfect, right outside of downtown but in walking distance. The view is breathtaking, especially at night. I highly recommend staying here, especially in the fall. So much to do in surrounding areas as well as downtown. Very quaint and friendly.

A wonderful B & B! Simon in a great host who provided useful recommendations on the town. The room was spacious and the house was in great shape. The house is on a bluff overlooking the downtown area with the Mississippi River in the background. The front porch was a great place to unwind at the end of a busy day. Would stay there again!

I surprised my husband with a stay at The Hancock House B&B for his birthday and it exceeded our expectations! Simon was reliable and accommodating by phone before we even arrived and just as wonderful of a host throughout our stay. We stayed in the Ballroom suite, which was as impressive as the name suggests! We thoroughly enjoyed conversing with the other guests during a delicious breakfast the next morning. Overall memorable experience and we can't wait to return one day.

What a place, beautiful, we only stayed one night for a quick getaway for our Anniversary. And I am very glad we stayed here. The hospitality to the history lesson about this beautiful Mansion was perfect. Oh ya, the home cooked breakfast was GREAT! Comfy room with a dynamite view.

It is very close to the river walk, well worth a stroll, Aquarium and Museum, Convention Center and downtown with many restaurants and businesses.

Stayed in Mrs. Hancock room for our anniversary. This was my husband’s first bed and breakfast experience and he loved it. My second and so far my favorite. The craftsmanship and detail in the woodwork is beautiful. The staging of furniture is spot on. Simon was knowledgeable and accommodating. Front porch with gorgeous views was amazing even better in an Iowa storm. Such an experience. We only were able to stay one night, the following night we stayed at a classy hotel and we both preferred and wished to be back at The Hancock House. Gem, great work Simon. We will share our experiences and return wonderful location.

We have stayed at The Hancock House B&B several times and it always exceeds our expectations! Simon is a wonderful host and easy to connect with if need be. This time we stayed in the Ballroom suite, which is impressive! We always enjoy visiting with the other guests during breakfast in the morning and when around the house. As always a Wonderful experience and we will be back!

My friend and I stayed at Hancock House on a Friday night. We found the service, location and rooms to be quite remarkable. We stayed in the train room and was very impressed with spaciousness and the immensities. The breakfast was served promptly at 8:30 am and was quite good while we heard some history of the area and the home. Would recommend and stay again, maybe in s room with a view down to the city next time.

From the moment we pulled up, we were in awe of this magnificent property!
Simon greeted us at the door and showed us around. Let us know if we needed anything don’t hesitate to call.
We enjoyed our coffee in one of the living rooms and Simon came out to chat a bit, which was very nice.
The BREAKFAST was fantastic. We will definitely be staying here again next time in Dubuque.

The house is beautiful and you can tell how proud Simon is of his work. We stayed in the Train Room, which is the least expensive, as we were going to be gone majority of the time. But even if it was the least expensive, it was beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. The bed and the pillow was cozy. The shower had amazing water pressure too! If we were to return for a relaxing weekend, I would love to check out the other rooms. But I believe no matter where you stay, you will have a great stay!

We absolutely loved our overnight stay in this beautiful home. Great view of downtown Dubuque from the bluff, gracious host and very spacious and upkept room. We were not expecting a home-cooked breakfast on Sunday morning but it was delicious, especially the sweet baked portion of it. Simon, the owner, made you feel very welcomed and it was enjoyable to have conversation with him over breakfast to learn more about the Hancock House. Would definitely return and not a far drive from downtown Galena!

My husband and I just ended our second stay. We fell in love with this place in 2020 and desperately wanted to come back. The house is exquisite and well cared for, and if you’re a complete Victorian/Edwardian nerd like me you’ll be in heaven. Hosts are lovely and friendly, and extremely accommodating. And you can’t beat the view from the house. Hancock House has us dreaming of moving to Debuque. Everything is very clean and impressive, especially for a historic property. We hope to be back sooner than later:)

Just got home from historic Dubuque. Took a ride on the Riverboat Twilight and stayed two nights at the historic Hancock House. My family occupied four rooms with authentic furniture and great views of the town. Beautiful house and owner is friendly and great host. Enjoyed our visit.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Hancock House to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Simon, the host did a wonderful job and provided a very clean, welcoming, and comfortable stay. The breakfast was delicious and the location is outstanding being very close to the historic area of Dubuque. I would highly recommend and plan on staying there for an upcoming anniversary.

Beautiful Victorian Home overlooking the city and the River. Simon was a great host and provided a delicious breakfast. He shared some nice history of the house and Hancock family and others from the era. Everything was great!
