Great historic feel to the building, beautiful woodwork that you just don’t see in places under $100/night usually. Still use old school metal keys on a key ring, I like that.

Our room was clean, comfortable, the window opened, parking was easy and free on the Main Street.

New ownership in the recent past, we were told by the locals drinking at the bar. Staff is from west India, they have a good thing going, hopefully they can keep this historic building and business alive!

Ps restaurant is closed currently but the bar is serving frozen pizzas and the similar modest bar foods. Bar was open from 5p on Fri sat sun only

This hotel is quaint. Our room was small but very clean. It reminds me of a bed and breakfast, although the breakfast is very limited. The owner is really nice and even put a small refrigerator in our room for us. I like that it has a very rustic charm.

Interesting historical building, but the room itself was more like a normal modern hotel room. Clean and adequate, no weird smells or mysteries (although the place is almost certainly haunted). Didn’t get to try the restaurant or lounge at all—they have strange and inscrutable hours of operation(?).

We love this hotel. Dog friendly, nice cushioned carpets, quiet, helpful and friendly staff. My main critiques would be that we only initially had one set of towels even though I booked the room for 3 people, we didn't have a spare roll of toilet paper, so I had to go ask for another, one tube of soap isn't enough for 3 people to shower and wash hands for 3 nights (a bar of soap would have been nice), and while it was super nice to have breakfast delivered to the room each morning, it was only enough for 1 person and we had 3 people in the room. We will definitely be returning because there's so much we like - walk ability downtown is fantastic, it's close to a park and the fairgrounds, and the staff is super friendly and helpful (one helped me carry my bags up the stairs on the one night the elevator was out of service --much appreciated!!).

We definitely enjoyed our visit here. The gentleman checking us in was very nice and professional. He even hand delivered water and cups to our room. The rooms were very nice, clean and neat. I loved the orginial grand staircase and all of the newspaper clippings detailing the history of the hotel attached to the checkin counter. Woke up this morning and they even left a paper bag full of goodies for us to take on the road. If you are looking to stay in a quaint historical hotel in a small town this would be the place.❤

What a great inspiration, after years of driving through Maquoketa to get home before sundown, we decided it was time to stay. And we were rewarded. With a spectacular building basically untouched—except for adding the mod cons—since 1873. High ceilings, beautiful woodwork, architectural splendor and all. Our room was understated luxury and was a pleasant retreat after a dusty day on the prairie and road. Enjoyed a light supper in the Maquoketa Cave restaurant/bar downstairs, with local wine. And slept like an infant in the sumptuous king size bed. Unobtrusive service but the owners leave nothing to chance. We’ll be back.

This 120 year old hotel 🏨 is fantastic. The room we had, the king with hot tub, was very large. The bed was firm, the pillows were fantastic. (One other review, said the pillows weren't good and owner said they would look into replacing) Nicely restored. The basement is a bar-restaurant with live music 🎶. We stayed on a Saturday and Sunday breakfast was included and incredible. There are cheaper places to stay, but the experience of staying in a historic place is well worth the extra few bucks.

The nephews and I had a GREAT meal. They both ate almost everything, which never happens. They also said "the food is bussin" which is a very high compliment.
Our waitress, Sarah was very attentive and we never had to ask for anything, she had us completely covered!!!

Very clean, very cool hotel! Retro feel. Small room but very comfortable and cozy. Adorable breakfast set up. Absolutely loved our stay!! Only downfall is restricted check in time (4p-8p), however they were very accommodating when we were late due to not being aware of restrictions. Would definitely love to stay here again sometime!!

This place just reopened under new management. Completely redecorated, new menu etc. There were 6 in our group. Everyone enjoyed their food. It was piping hot & very tasty. Only complaint we had was you have to tell the waitress how much you want your tip to be so she can add it to your bill. No printed out receipt, she had to write it out at the table & add the tip if you used a charge card. She was embarrassed as were we for having to do this verbally. That needs to change, she was embarrassed to have to ask & do it that way both.

The Decker Hotel is gorgeous! I appreciate that they have kept it pretty much how it was meant to be. The woodwork is beautiful, especially the staircase railing & the carpets are the perfect color & texture for this hotel. The staff is very friendly & helpful. Our room was very nice & clean. I like the fact that they lock the front door at night but do give you a key if you need to leave for some reason.
They have to do this because it's not your typical hotel. Definitely nothing like a Super 8 or a Marriott. It's a lovely historical hotel & therefore is ran differently. And don't get me started on the restaurant. The food was delicious! It's a charming restaurant & so convenient not to have to leave the hotel for food. We highly recommend this hotel & will be back soon!! One of Iowa's hidden gems!

This was our 2nd time visiting the Decker - the first, 13 years ago, we had dinner and visited the pub. The staff was kind enough to show us around the hotel. Fast forward to our now family of 4 - we booked room #200 and it was fantastic! The kids never stopped saying how cool the room/hotel were and how they wanted to return. We had brunch Sunday morning and it was also very good - offerings that you don't normally see like quiche, crepes, homemade breads. The staff was super helpful and sweet- you can tell that it's a small business, not a big chain hotel.

Huge thank you to Bridget Linnea for posting her review of the Decker House Hotel in Maquoketa last month. We took your advice and booked a weekend stay and had the most incredible experience.

The building is beautiful and has kept its late 1800s charm in every detail. We spent our Friday night in the basement pub, The Maquoketa Cave, where we had a wonderful burger, club sandwich, onion rings, and fries. All made incredibly fresh in house. We had a blast doing karaoke with a full bar of people. The owner/ head chef Nathan even got up and did some Rocky Horror. He is truly a gem, he made his rounds and talked to everyone and made sure everyone was having a great time. He proceeded to do this at every meal we had at the hotel. Easily the best service I’ve ever received from an owner.

Saturday we did a little brewery hopping in Dubuque and Galena before coming back and trying out Maquoketa Brewing just a few blocks down from the hotel where we had a few beers with people we met the night before. We had dinner at the 7 Horses restaurant in the hotel. The meatloaf for me, a HUGE steak for her. Again, very delicious. Our room had a jacuzzi tub which was the perfect way to end the night.

Sunday morning we came down to the restaurant for a delicious brunch buffet full of fresh and well executed fare.

The atmosphere, food, and atmosphere were simply incredible during our whole trip. We will definitely be back and often and recommend this place for a romantic getaway weekend. Can’t compliment this place enough.

The lovely Victorian dining room is tastefully elegant. The servers were friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! The sweet potato fries were new to us, but crisp and tasty. The marinated prime rib sandwich was tender and the sauce exquisite. And the frosted brownies we had for dessert melted in our mouths! All in all, a great experience! We will be going back - often!

I have lived away from Maquoketa for 38 years but I can honestly say that our stay at The Decker Hotel was the first time in awhile that I've felt like I was home. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff is super friendly and the food was amazing. I highly recommend the Decker and we will be back.

I love their brunch buffet. Stayed here several years back for several days. Great experancse if you love antics and history. It was cheaper than some of the Indian owned Motels around. Its like a time capsule. Spent the weekend in the 20S

Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Each room is unique. It's like stepping back into Victorian times. Beth and her mom are charming and will help you with anything you need. And there breakfast buffet on sundays in the restaurant is FANTASTIC!
