This is an older place with a lot of charm. our room was on the 3rd floor, cozy, tucked away from the rest of the other 14 rooms available.
It was basic room, bed dresser, bathroom with shower, other rooms we looked at had whirlpool tubs and lots of extra space.
the inn keeper was an elderly gentleman with a great demeanor, very enjoyable to talk to.
the room was old, the bed was rickety and the toilet was finicky but it was still fun and inexpensive costing about $110 for the night including a free breakfast and coffee, very delicious.

This review will do no justice , but I’m writing one because I want the world to know about how GREAT this spot is. The location can’t be beat!! You have access to so many cool places that are all within walking distance! Robert is AMAZING!!! He is the innkeeper but I also found out he is the owner!! Not only personable , but very very helpful and charming. The breakfast was ASTOUNDING! It was very balanced and a great start to my day! The room was cozy! You still get the original feel and it’s VERY CLEAN! I loved my stay and would love to come back for the hospitality, AMAZING breakfast and Robert’s awesome personality ! If you’re in the area, you should check it out!

The building itself is immaculate! My wife and I stayed here overnight while we were celebrating her birthday in town for a hockey game and were well taken care(comfy bed, clean sheets, fresh towels, hot tub, fresh bfast with a variety of sweets and fruits, unlike a motel or hotel- the carpets here at the B&B felt soft under barefeet). I would highly recommend staying here for anyone. Fast internet and so many different TV options.

Loved this little place!!! Me and my boyfriend are a younger couple so sometimes it can be difficult to feel comfortable in establishments. The owner was amazing and super friendly and made us feel right at home, the room we stayed at was so beautiful and super well kept for it being an older building. I’ve never been to a bed and breakfast before but from this experience I will be going to more :-)

Beautiful building with very unique rooms. The staff were fantastic, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I am really happy I stayed at this property. It was within walking distance to all of the things I wanted to do downtown as well!

Plenty of free or cheap parking, excellent communication and service from Robert and really nice rooms for good value. Close to lots of things in Dubuque and only 20 minutes to Galena. Definitely recommend. It's a nice quiet location but very accessible and easy to get to places from. Robert was very friendly and professional and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast that included Starbucks coffee. Will definitely stay again and highly recommend!

This was our second visit to the Redstone Inn. Another wonderful experience! It truly feels like staying with good friends. Warm, inviting, and in the morning a really delicious breakfast. If you like beautiful, old buildings, this is the place to stay. Very comfy bed and the decor is lovely. You feel transported to the Victorian era. Can't wait to visit again!!

Robert and housekeeping were incredibly accommodating, great service. We weren't satisfied with our initial room and we're able to switch rooms--to the master suite, and this did not disappoint! In case you don't already know: the building is very old. Understand that. You're going to get more character than a generic hotel room, and this place really grows on you. Breakfast was great and Robert is very well versed in the history of The Redstone and Dubuque. Very much enjoyed our stay and exploring this beautiful area. Thank you again!

PERFECT one-night stay for two! Free overnight parking, but the lot across the street is $1/hr if you pay on the app Monday-Saturday. We got in late on Friday night, and then paid for an hour of parking Saturday AM (8am-9am) before checking out.

STELLAR breakfast service. Plenty of fresh fruit, handmade breakfast sandwich, as well as traditional breakfast pastries and muffins (and can't forget the coffee!) Room was very clean. Full sized bed with mattress pad. Microwave and mini fridge in room. Small but cozy. Window AC unit in the room. Plenty of local magazines with information about local sight-seeing spots. Lounge area in lobby.

I saw a number of comments about peeling wallpaper and [normal] wear-and-tear, but you're staying in a historic building, not a hotel 🤷‍♀.

Husband and I stayed for a night and it was so nice and charming. Beautiful old building. Robert was extremely nice and generous. We were the only guests and he treated us like royalty. Would love to go again!

It is a really neat place. The bed was a bit small for my husband and I but comfortable. It was adequate for one night. We were on the 3rd floor, so make sure you can walk up stairs.

Comfortable room, beautiful town, breakfast was great and the owners were very nice. They took covid precautions seriously and made sure to space breakfast out where we were not seated near anyone else. Had a delicious croque monsieur and a nice little buffet and he kept our coffee and tea full while we read the complimentary newspaper. Highly recommend!

This place was a small slice of heaven in a time since forgotten.

It was quiet, clean, and very much a refreshing overnight stay. The building is dated, but with the history The Red Stone Inn brings, dated is what you want from a stay here.

Expect rooms to be a little cooler when you check in, but like us, you’ll get settled in and be toasty in no time soon.

Breakfast was more than expected and the service included a touch of class that time has since forgotten.

Robert, the owner, greeted us, served us, and was happy to share some history of the BnB while we dined.

Egg quiche, with a side of ham on a toasted brioche roll, with coffee, fresh fruit, juice, along with full standard breakfast bar which included all the sweets!

If your looking for a place to stay near Galena IL.... might I suggest you take a 15min ride across the state line and visit Robert and book your next stay at The Red Stone Inn.

We will be back Robert!
Good luck with the sale.

I hope retirement treats you well, and I hope it’s new owner treats the red stone with as much compassion and care as you have this last decade!

Gorgeous place to stay! Very well maintained for a 100 year old building. Robert was exceptionally hospitable, rooms were clean and breakfast was tasty. Classical music during breakfast was a neat touch!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our mini vacation to Dubuque. We loved it! Then place had character. I loved our room, bed was comfy and I loved all the old furniture. Self check-in was a breeze and breakfast was hot and delicious, they even brought our food to our room one morning! The Redstone Inn is within walking distance to a few restaurants and bars and the event center. I am a little sad to see that he is selling the place now, but we had a lovely stay.

Very beautiful old inn, with updates. I couldn't stay for breakfast and the owner/manager (?) offered to pack my breakfast to go. Very nice man. It is right downtown where there is much to do and see within walking distance.
