EL Chilar Mexican Restaurant

My wife and I decided to try El Chilar tonight and we were not disappointed.
We were greeted by the owner and he has to rank in the top ten of the nicest guys to run a restaurant and we were quickly seated and brought menus. He asked if this was our first time in and answered our questions about the menu and before we knew it we had fresh chips and Salsa with drinks. He explained the hot and mild salsa and he was visibly pleased by our favorable reactions because both had excellent flavor and the hot (IMO) had just the right amount of heat. There were several items on the menu that I wanted and I was surprised to see that they offered Chili Colorado because not a lot of places offer it. I decided to have the Chili Verde and the wife had the pan fried taco dinner and both were served with beans and rice. Our meals were timed very well and we had just finished our chips and both plates had excellent presentation and the food was hot and very well prepared. The pork in the Chili Verde was perfect and the flavoring was excellent and my wife said that her chicken taco's were excellent also with great flavor and very well prepared.
Business was slow tonight and the owner said that with the snow his business had been slower but this is also a sign to me and when business is slow in a small restaurant and the food is perfectly prepared and has excellent taste this says a lot about the establishment.
My wife and I highly recommend El Chilar and I will have to try the Chili Colorado the next time we are in.

Truly authentic... Not Tex Mex authentic but your Mexican grandma authentic. Great food and service. I had the menudo and chicken mole. Both were amazing. They have all the Mexican soups. Caldo de res, albóndigas, menudo, pozole. A must try in Topeka. Support the small businesses that believe in Topeka!

Amazing food and even better hospitality.. The owner makes the dining experience awesome.. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Fajitas Cancun was delicious

We love this place. Gluten free options too! Have been multiple times now and are never disappointed. The salsa is made fresh and amazing! We have had everything from basic crunchy tacos, burritos to my favorite fajitas. Never disappointed and the owner is extremely friendly and fun to be around.

I had the chicken mole, and mole is probably my favorite thing to eat, and this was spot on. It was like something my aunt would make. My wife had the pan fried tacos, and she absolutely loved them. This is her new favorite place to eat Mexican in Topeka, and I can’t wait to get back. I’ve heard the Chile
Verde and Chile Colorado are great, so I’ll try one of those next time I stop in.

Excellent service all around. The owner greeted us and sat us in a timely manner. The food was delicious and very good portions were served. Worth coming back again.I read about this recently and liked the story of how this place came to be. I was excited to finally get a chance to eat there.

We totally enjoyed eating lunch here. Service was very good and the tacos were tasty and filling. The chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa had a good bite to it. We will be making this our 'go to' neighborhood restaurant.

Great selection, prices and fantastic food (I had the shrimp tacos and rice, the best I've had yet)! Even better is the customer service. You will not find nicer people in any restaurant in Topeka. I'll be going back again! I would rate this place as one of my top favorites so far.

Just had this for the first time. Always been a big fan of another place down the street.... this place is awesome and so was the service. I asked about something not on the menu and wow, just made it for me. Met the owner, very nice guy too. I will for sure be back many times!

Had the Carnitas Dinner and hubby got the Chile Colorado. I usually take pictures of my plate to show everyone what I had but by the time I remembered, my plate was shy of being licked clean. Both dishes were delicately seasoned; something most restaurants fail to do but not here. The salsa we had before dinner was so addicting, we had seconds because it was that good, not because we waited too long for food. The service was quick, the owner Victor, was very personable.

I have to admit, Victor's wife, Maria has restored our faith in scrumptious Mexican food. The building is very unassuming but the food was WOW!

Nice decor, very good food at reasonable prices, and very attentive, friendly, and personal wait staff. The gentleman who waited on us made everyone feel welcome and valued. Outstanding service and an enjoyable experience.

I always go into new resteraunts kind of skeptical, so I’ll say I was a bit nervous at first. There’s so many options, I got the Fajita Cancun, it was A M A Z I N G!! I loved that the owner came around every so often and for once asked us how the food was when we didn’t have a bite in our mouths😄I think this is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I also want to say the owner is very very very nice and easy to talk to, I want to be best friends💗

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Topeka by far! All of their food is very authentic and fresh. The pan fried chicken tacos are awesome and never disappoint. Customer service is on point, highly recommend this place

We stopped by this place while passing through town and what a treat it was. The food was very authentic and best of all the owner was super nice! Will definitely come again next time we are in town.

Guys this place is all around great, I drive for eatstreet and I was consistently blown away by this place. The Gentlemen I always calls me by name and asks how my day is no matter how busy they are. After 4 runs there in one day I decided to stop there on my break and eat. The food was QUALITY and delicious! The portion size was enough to take home and eat again.

I had to come back in, because my office had a large order and (do to a software issue) my order doesn't come through. Now I've been in the service industry for over 5 years myself, so I'm pretty relaxed when stuff like this happens, because sometime it just does and I'm not the King of the Universe who deserves anymore special treatment than any other human being.

... But this owner. I felt his sincerity, compassion, and overall dismay for my situation. It was a kindness you won't feel from just any place because you can't replace its 100% genuine nature.

To add to of that, my food was excellent, and you bet I'll be going back and giving to a business that genuinely cares about its consumers!
