The building is nice and clean, as well as the territory as a whole. It was pretty cool to see, definitely very different from other state capitols around the US.

The history of North Dakota is amazing and seeing the museum exhibits are great. Only thing is you need more then one day to check everything out. It, to me, is a great place to bring your children because there are hands on exhibits as well.

This state capitol might look unassuming outside, but is very interesting inside. The history dramatically affected the design and architecture.

I appreciated the simplicity and yet detailed touches for the interior design. The downstairs lobby has an unusual hall of portraits of famous and influential North Dakota residents, rather than the typical government position holder's portraits. The history mentioned with each of the portraits is worth the trip to the capitol.

I've had several guided tours and each have been informative. A visit to the top floor is fun to read more history of North Dakota but especially for the views in all directions.

I highly recommend visiting the North Dakota state capitol and the guided tour.

Cool place to check out. They have a free guided tour most hours. Or you can always self-guide yourself through this beautiful building founded in hard working North Dakotan spirit. Our tour guide was knowledge, informative, and obviously very proud of her home state. Great views on the top floor.
Check out next door while you're here. ND Heritage Center and state museum. Also free and really well done.

A practical but beautiful state capitol building. Guided tours are available during limited hours but self guided tours are allowed as well. Visitors can access the observation level on the 18th floor for nice views of the town. Both chambers of the house and Senate are also open to view.

They have a great tour of the building! The Art Deco style of the interior is grand. The view from the top is worth the stop.

Somewhat unique among capitol buildings in the United States with its high-rise design, the grounds are still very attractive and the capitol stately.

Beautiful building with lots of fun history. Definitely recommend a guided tour as our tour guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable and gave us insights we would've never heard on our own

We really enjoyed the tour we took. Cindy, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of good and interesting information. She also answered all of our kids questions and showed us things she thought would be of interest to our specific group. The House and Senate were closed due to some remodeling, but it was still worth the tour.

Closed when I arrived, but worth the walk around. Found the heritage museum on the grounds; a great surprise.

When you walk through the doors of the capital, and through security you will immediately have an opportunity to see history. The walls have beautiful portraits of people who have been awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Hall of Fame, Rough Rider award. The award is given to outstanding North Dakota ends who have attained accomplishments that have brought honor to the state. And it is very surprising to see who is from North Dakota. There is also an opportunity for a guided tour of the history of the capital. When you go to the 19th floor you can view the surrounding city of Bismarck. There is a art display from a local artist. And incredible photography of the old capital on fire.

Peacefully green space and small woods to walk in, take the capital tour to get to the top floors for a view of all of Bismarck.

North Dakota's capitol may not be the traditional style that many states have but it has a charm all its own. The building doesn't have a glamorous dome or an ornate exterior but it is still a very nice capitol building. Despite being completed way back in the 1930s during the Great Depression (I believe) it has really stood the test of time. Not many buildings that old look so good. The building's exterior is modest but still attractive. But the interior is the most impressive part of the capitol. Despite budgetary limitations the builders did a good job of including a reasonable amount of ornateness. A tour will reveal the different types of marble, etc., used to decorate the main hall. The chambers are modest but I think North Dakotans like it that way. Nearly all state offices, including the Supreme Court, are within the capitol. This makes for a lively scene even during non-legislative assembly years. The place really comes alive though during session. It is a fun place to be. The grounds surrounding the capitol provide room for events like Capital Shakespeare and for people to leisurely enjoy a nice day. Even though at first glance North Dakota's capitol may not strike you as one of the nation's best, it is a very respectable capitol that is worth the visit if you are lucky enough to be in Bismarck.

The State Capitol of North Dakota is unlike other state capitols in terms of architectural style, but equally worth visiting. You can take a self-guided tour with a brochure you are given at the entrance. Do not forget to take an elevator to the top floor to see a nice panorama of Bismarck.
