Ward Branch Greenway Trailhead

Our family frequents this trail. Super easy to park at and unload our things. The trail itself is very level so it’s great for young kids on their bikes and scooters. Also the creek is also so fun for the kids to skip rocks at.

First visit to this park and was pleasantly surprised. There is a paved path that runs along Ward Branch creek for some of the trail. A bit of a challenge to find where to park, take Rd 139 to a graveled area for parking at end/beginning of trail. The trail goes much further than what is shown in All trails app as connects to many other Springfield trails.

This trail is good for walking. The creek has so many little different entrances it almost makes each unquie. A bike can be used but you would miss alot. Great in the evening@@!!

Really beautiful trails and scenery, and the river runs right beside the trails. We, along with our dog, Karleigh, love it.

We had a nice peaceful walk this morning...not many people and love walking along the creek with our fur babies.

Probably one of my top three spots in Springfield. It's really low-key, it's beautiful, you're guaranteed to see some wildlife. There's a paved walking trail that meanders along the ward branch. It's actually the site of an old farmstead that was donated to the city to be used as public land. It's a bird watchers paradise, i see indigo buntings every time i go during the summer and with my limited knowledge I identified at least 4 different species of frogs and toads right in the big puddle that forms every year in the parking lot. There's owls, there's deer and some magnificent sycamores with huge exposed root systems that go out into the clean running creek. There's an old, blocked off bridge that i guess used to be part of the road system but it's accessible. Oh yeah, it's low key. There's never a million people there. Well maybe I should just go ahead and delete this post and keep it that way.... Nah, don't cheat yourself out of the beautiful experience that this place provides. Don't quote me on this but i read that it's being considered for development so that means it might not always be the naturally beautiful and free-to-enjoy place that it is for now. Go catch it before it becomes a hotel for a golf course and all the beautiful critters go find a better place to stay. There's a piece of my heart there and I'm stingy with those.

I just hiked this trail for the first time. It's pretty nice. I had the place to myself which is pretty rare for me. 6/6/2023

Clean trail. If you go around Grey Elementary it's about 3 miles out and back from the trailhead. Fairly flat so the kiddos on bikes ride it with ease. Not usually too busy.

The trail is not very long and is paved. Traffic noise can be heard the entire length of the trail, but not real bad.

Nice place to walk or just pull over and relax. Enjoy the woods around it.

Love this peaceful walk, lots of gnats and lil bugs in the air though, so bring bug spray!
