We weren’t able to go inside but we enjoyed walking around the outside and looking through the windows. You can see the bullet holes on the side of the house still.

Worth going too if your driving through and like history. Has a good movie that explains the battle and it’s background leading up to it.

The Anderson House is amazing! I toured the house interior last August in my Southern Belle Gown I made in honor of my ancestors Willis Elliott and his son William Elliott whom fought here during the Battle of the Hemp Bails aka Battle of Lexington as members of the Missouri State Guard, Confederate States of America. I came here three years prior but missed the last tour unfortunately but enjoyed the views of the exterior of the house. The views extend through the trees down to the Missouri River near where the Potawatomi camped during the Trail of Death coming from St. Joseph Indiana bound for Kansas during their removal.

The house and battlefield tour are fantastic. The gentleman who does the house tours is a wealth of knowledge. The staff are fantastic and very accommodating.

There is a skull and crossbones on the outside of the house. (It was created from a bullet ricochet during the attack) I learned about this when I did some community service there in the ‘90s
