River Reader Bookstore

The River Reader is my favorite bookstore. It's such a cozy place, and the people are lovely. It's the perfect place to snuggle up with a book. They have drinks too! I love the Italian sodas. They have something for everyone and a nice kids section, too. Also they do activities like story times with the kids.
Overall a wonderful place to hang out, or just pop in.

We were in town for a few hours and I had read reviews about River Reader. They don’t do it justice! What a fantastic jewel for Lexington! Very inviting atmosphere, wonderful selection of books and gifts, great coffee/tea menu, cozy little area for kids in the back… if I lived closer, I would be there every day. The owner was so engaging - she is very well connected in the community and knowledgeable. Highly, highly recommend!

Cozy place to find a book, have an Italian soda or a cappuccino. Pick up a book for yourself and a gift for a friend. Independent bookstores need our support and this one is a great place to hang out. Enjoy!

This place is a jewel! Worth a drive to visit. Their selection of books for a small shop is impressive. I especially go there for the children's books. They carry the most diverse selection in one place! It's also a coffee shop so it smells heavenly. The atmosphere and charm of the place coupled with conversation with the kind-hearted owner makes this a one of a kind experience!! SHOP INDEPENDENT BOOK STORES!!

We love River Reader! They have a wide selection of books, the owners are kind and accommodating, and they have great coffee and tea drinks. They even have other things for sale, like local soaps! We always like to go and sit in their comfy chairs for a few hours to read.

Lexington is quite fortunate to have such a great bookstore in our historic downtown! Not only do they have unique, thoughtfully chosen selection of books, great coffee and cookies that make for a delightful outing but they also carry a wonderful selection of children's books and other educational activity items that make River Reader my family's one stop shopping for all grandchildren, great niece and great nephew birthday presents. Even better, the owner is quite knowledgeable and will assist in choosing age appropriate books and other gifts. No longer do I have to buy plastic items at the nearest mega discount store nor drive 45 minutes to get to a chain bookstore. Whether you are visiting Lexington on a day trip or make your home here I highly recommend stopping in at the River Reader for a peaceful, pleasurable shopping experience and a yummy latte!

Best bookstore and coffee shop in Missouri. It's worth the trip to Lexington, to have a cup of joe and to buy from the large selection of new books, toys, and games. Friendly staff.

THE best(the BEST) place to pop in for a hot drink on a cold day, have a nice conversation with the thoughtful and lovely owner, and pick up a book (or two) before you go. If what you're looking for isn't on the shelf, Pat is always happy to get it for you.

Went here for the first time this morning. Wonderful atmosphere and great tea! Had a wonderful woman check me out that didn't mind talking to me for a bit. Highly recommend and will be returning!

I love this place. It's more than a book store. It's a "welcome wagon" to new resident's of Lexington. Renowned authors and poets schedule for readings of their books; or question and answer sessions-Inspiring! All kinds of fancy coffee is on site and on menu. If they don't have the book in stock--they will get it for you. Also, at least three active book clubs meet at River Reader Bookstore regularly. The atmosphere is wonderful. The owners and staff are true book and literary fans--so call or go there to buy books or the like. It's located next to the library on Mainstreet. You'll love Mainstreet if you like specialty shopping. Lexington is history-rich, has restaurants and a cannonball from the Civil War is still stuck in one of the columns on the courthouse. I just found River Reader a few months ago--I love it!

Outstanding service and selections, great coffee and beverage bar, fresh baked cookies and brownies. Very committed to youth reading activities and opportunities. An excellent representative of the community!

It is amazing that there is even a book store in a small town like Lexington! The business has a clever way of supporting local teachers. Great food and beverages! Wonderful people that works there!

Such a wonderful place to go and find a new series of books or get a fabulous suggestion about an author. Patricia and Gary are always happy to help, and if you don't see what you need, ordering it is no problem. I love this place!

This is by far my favorite bookstore! Pat always has great hot drinks, (I recommend the brown sugar cinnamon hot latte) and perfect book recommendations!!
