Well Organized Post Office. Mt vernon usps is an Older Historic type building which is fun. I always have great service at the window with one of the Clerks. I love my weekly visits into the Post office with her.

Our substitue postman today 12/5/22 on Walnut st. In Mt.Vernon, Mo. Is the nicest person. Reminds me of a time when Postmen where polite something we hav'nt experienced in a few years, in this area.

UPDATE-I spoke to the post master in November. She looked up my address and said I had been added to a list.. I never should have been put on. Apologized.
Jared who delivers on McVey street has created so many problems for me-and still has a job!

Meanwhile a credit card I paid off.. apparently accrued $2.00 worth of interest, which led to a late fee, statements on a credit card I paid off were not delivered to me. A 30 day late fee hit my credit. My credit tanked. In the process of buying a house… we had to buy more points down. Jared I hope not doing your job haunts you.

For the last few months I have been getting my mail returned to sender with no known new address. This affects my daily life. Utility bills, letters from the doctor, letters from the state of Missouri. I submitted a complaint online and was told it was taken care of. I have been waiting two weeks for "out for delivery" credit card as well as important business documents. I personally have gotten no mail with my name on it now for 3 weeks, that's no ads, no wonderful credit card offers. NOTHING. I have lived here two years and now I have to "verify" my current address with my credit card company since the statement was returned to them. They are refusing the current address I live at. What a mess! This Mt Vernon Post office needs some guidance.

I don't really have anything bad to say about the post office itself as I tend to not go in there. However, their delivery person needs to pay more attention. In the year and a half I have lived in this town, I just had to get a package from the next block over for the 4th time. This time I also had their package. Fortunately they are good people and just as easily said no they didn't get it. As someone who spent several years in the delivery business, this is unacceptable. If you get mail delivered out of this office, make sure you always use insurance as you may not be as lucky as i am.

The actual post office itself is great, the delivery courier however is a different story. In the year I've lived here, I've had to track down at least 2-3 DOZEN packages. It's not that hard to look at the address one more time before final delivery.

Noticed another reviewer is having the exact same issue as I am. Had a package coming in, on December 7 at 3:25 in the afternoon I got a notification that my package had been delivered at the front door/porch but it wasn’t there. Called them politely and they said it got misdelivered and they were going to pick it up after we got off the phone and have it delivered the next day. Never showed up. Called back Monday only for them to tel me the same exact thing. “The individual that received it was going to bring it by but never did so we’ll go get it and get it delivered.” Still hasn’t shown up. Will be calling tomorrow to get the guys address and/or phone number to get it myself if they don’t already have the package. Haven’t had any issues with this location before but this one encounter is really starting to get on my nerves.

The woman up front, right now. Dark hair and glasses, is rude and not friendly at all. People like her in the postal service is why more and more people seek alternative methods.
Edit: Had another bad encounter with her yesterday. She needs to be fired. People should not have to tolerate her. Especially at the post office.

03/24/2022 ... I have been to the post office twice this week to get 2 rolls of stamps and have yet to get them. Understood the Postmaster was not there and the employees could get to them. Very poor service from the postmaster to put the postal employees in that situation. I work for a business and the stamps are needed!

They got rid of an antique table near front door and replaced it with temporary storage boxes for packages. I have a PO Box and work nights, so more often than not I have a yellow slip waiting in my PO Box telling me I have a package waiting.

Why they don’t actually use the storage boxes for packages is beyond me. The storage boxes are almost always empty so I know it’s not space. They’re just too lazy to put the packages in them. Making me have to wait a day or two, and go in when I should be sleeping after work. Frustrating.

They can't deliver your mail early this 6:30 pm or later is not cool had something mail to me from Jefferson city on the 15 and I still have not got it .there no reason for the mail to run this late mount vernon is not a big town all mail should be done by 4 or 5

The dark haired older lady that works the front desk is extremely rude and unhelpful EVERY time I’m here. Someone who seems to truly hate her job, herself, or just people in general. I try to avoid needing to go inside because of the poor customer service.

Had a package that was out for delivery yesterday 12/3 and I got a delivery notification that it was delivered on my front porch/door. Went outside and nothing. I checked the mailbox all around the house. Absolutely frustrating considering it’s the holiday season. I hope it gets delivered to the CORRECT address. It’s doesn’t take much to look at the address on the house or mailbox to make sure it’s going to the right place.

I live in Mt. Vernon and have given up on shipping anything from them at this point and drive the extra miles to Monett, Republic, or Aurora. Mt. Vernon is the only area post office of descent size that closes for an hour at lunch. All the rest around here that aren't one person post offices rotate employees lunches so they can stay open during lunch. Even the one person show in Brookline only closes for 30 minutes for lunch. On top of that unless you can fit it a priority envelope or priority small box they never, never have supplies to ship anything else. All the other post offices in the area and even the small ones will have tubes or other type of boxes to sell for shipping.

I would appreciate the carrier not using my yard to turn around in, she pulls into our drive but she apparently cant back up so she turns her vehicle around in my yard rutting it up. I have called and spoke to the postmaster
