FALSP. Great hiking, biking, horse trails. Camping, fishing and activities and events throughout the year. This is a beautiful park along Missouri River. Dog friendly but must be kept on a leash.

The State parks are so beautiful and very well kept. This park is right on the Missouri River and Heart River. So neat there. We stayed at a site with water and electric. There's also a dump station. Many hiking trails and playground, pic-a-nic areas and modern clean bathrooms. At only $25/night plus the park daily fee of only $8. There's also an amphitheater, fishing and just watching the Bald EAGLE that was circling as we walked with our cat. I think it was hungry. I could have stayed there much longer. Oh and check out time isn't until 3pm. That was nice too.

Arriving, had a nice chat with the ranger at the gate getting some recommendations. From there, we went to the Custer House for a tour (additional fee above the entry fee) and well-worth it. The one hour guided tour with Don was excellent and informative. We then crossed the parade grounds to the barracks, then up to the blockhouses for an excellent view of the Missouri River/prairie and visited the cemetery. Back down the hill to the Mandan village where you can go into some of the earth lodges and finishing up in the visitors center which had some great artifacts for the fort, the Mandan village and local tribes and the Civilian Conservation Corps. All in all, a great time.

Park with a ton of history as most havee. 7 dollar car entry was a fair price. If you plan to enjoy the whole park, plan at least half to full day, closer to full if you want to see all the trails and such. Block forts and the mud huts are staples, yet trails galore and exploring the wide open spaces. Native American culture and history are things we should all understand more of.

My mother is from Mandan and I have family that lives there still, also in Bismarck. I’ve visited the park countless times since I was a little girl. I’ve had the privilege of creating memories here with my own family. We’ve done the Custer house tour, climbed the block houses, sat in the earth houses, fished the river, had barbecue gatherings with 3 generations of families, walked the trails along the river. It’s all around a incredible place to visit. We will be back to visit for many years to come.

There is a lot to see, learn and experience at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. Our visit began with the museum, where you can learn about the organized Mandan villages and how a series of events ranging from early diseases to dam construction affect the indigenous people. Following touring the reconstructed Mandan village, we climbed a steep ladder leading to the top of an army blockhouse. There is a section of the museum that is dedicated to the history of the fort, an example of which is related to General Custer, whose defeat by native American forces had astonished many at the time. Visiting Custer's house requires an additional fee, but we are glad to join the guided tour, during which the story of Custer's family was told from the perspective of a laundress.

Extremely nice park for camping, hiking and history! I slept in a tipi which made this experience even better! Haunted Fort was fun also. I want to give thanks to Ranger Eric who helped me get my car unstuck at the stables! He went above and beyond anything I expected! Restroom and shower facilities were clean. The Fall colors were spectacular!

Great campsites here because there is a lot of space between the backyards of the sites, maybe 50 ft. and there are many rustic and modern sites. If you are into history and Custer, you can tour the house where he lived and was the Post (Ft Abraham Lincoln) Commander. This was the house he occupied when he marched off with his calvary to the Little Big Horn and he modified it to his and Libbys liking! All of the current base buildings have been reconstructed because the lumber, etc, was carted off the 1890s by the locals. There is also a great museum in the Visitor Center that covers both the Mandan life and Army fort life. Next to the museum is a slant village built by the Mandan. It is called slant village because it was built on a slant of the hill and had 75 lodges! However, the earth lodges now are reproductions based on their original designs. The Mandan lived on the Missouri river for 500 years but were decimated by smallpox in the late 1700s.

Very nice and beautiful state park. The On a Slant Native American Village is really cool. My kids 8-12 really enjoyed walking through each earthlodge. We also liked the Custer House.

A great historic site that is only $7 a day to explore. The staff were all super friendly. The kids loved getting on top of the block houses and exploring the village. The museum was informative. The barracks had clothes for the kids to dress as soldiers. Well done all around!

Quick and fun detour from the highway. There is an entry fee. Place does have some history to it, but for average people, getting the to see the earthlodges up close as well as the fort and outlook post is probably the highlight. They're well maintained and have facts about native american life and the life of soldiers posted everywhere. There are tours. Watch out for rattlesnakes in the area. They're mostly near the soldier living quarters and not the earthlodge area. There is a cool bridge to cross to get to the earthlodges. Pretty wheelchair friendly.

I visited Fort Abraham Lincoln during my summer vacation to North Dakota. The is a wonderful state park filled with so much history. I enjoy a guided tour of the reconstructed Custer House. The costumed guide was excellent, her knowledge of the Custer's and the life on a frontier fort really added to a most enjoyable tour. After my tour of the Custer House, I made my way up to the post cemetery and the Site of Fort McKeen which affords visitors wonderful views of the entire area including the Missouri River. I also found my tour of the On-A-Slant Village to be very informative. All total I ended up spending much of the afternoon (about 4-hours) touring the site of the fort and its buildings. Fort Abraham Lincoln is a must-see site for any History Buff.

First time in Bismarck. Stopped here just to visit this park and we were not disappointed. The 2 guided tours were excellent. The George Custer house had hundreds of cool artifacts. And our guide gave us plenty of time to look around. The Manden mounds were great too. Do not miss this park!

This a a wonderful park. There are tons of very nice trails here. The Mandan-Fort Lincoln Trail is super nice. It is a paved trail from the park up to the town of Mandan. We visited the Custer House at the Calvary Post, which was a very interesting look into the daily lives of soldiers in the mid-late 1800’s. Glen, our tour guide, did an excellent job. We really enjoyed the personal information on the placards in the barracks. The information about the Indian Scouts was especially interesting. There is a great coffee bar/snack area at the commissary with a wonderful book shop in the back. We also visited the Infantry Post on the top of the hill. The viewing towers were extraordinary. It was very interesting to see the way these were built and their placement on the hill. We were especially intrigued by the soldiers’ cemetery and the inscriptions on the tombstones. The other really interesting place in the park is the On-A-Slant Indian Village. The park has done a great job recreating these domed structures and providing information about the Native Peoples of this area. We were disappointed that the Trolley was not working and appeared to have been shut down for some time, although the stops were still listed on the park map. We walked every trail and road in this park. They were well groomed and easy to walk. There are hills in this area, so there can be some strenuous climbs. We recommend this park to anyone in the area.

A very cool park with reconstructed buildings representing a late 1800s army camp of General Custer. A great story of what happened here.Take the tour of the home ($8) and a great campground with the north loop right along the river.
